I think it's important to bring up how Cynthia, Volo and Cogita's Latin inspiration for their names all closely relates them. Cogito = I think Volo = I want Sentio = I feel This just makes me believe that Cogita and Volo are both ancestors to Cynthia, in some form. Could be that Volo is a time traveler and is somehow Cogita's ancestor or that they both share an ancestor and that's why they look familiar. Certainly could suggest they hook up at some point, too....No way would they have Volo have Cynthia's near identical team and same theme for him to not somehow relate to her. Cogita is strongly implied to be immortal, or at least outrageously long-lived. The old verses you dig up describe the story of a immortal, and Cogita states that Enamorus will return to her after the players death, and unless she's planning on offing you within the week she has no reason to think she's outlive you unless she does not have a normal human lifespan. If Volo's comments about waiting centuries are to be taken literally, then the two of them could have a very long time to produce the family line that results in Cynthia, even if they aren't together at the time of Legends.

When I played the game I thought that all named NPCs just HAD to be ancestors, but the uniqueness of some characters like Adaman and Callaba disprove this. But I thought it was weird that some important characters were ancestors, while others weren’t. In hindsight, however, I think it’s better that not all characters are ancestors. Makes it more fun to try and pinpoint who is. I see many people say Marlon is Iscan’s descendent, with people responding Marlon isn’t actually black. But your theory actually works. I had completely forgotten Iscan is together with Palina. If they actually stay together, it could be that Marlon inherits Palina’s general skintone, but just tans easily because of the melanin he inherited from Iscan. Personality- and chracter trait-wise, it just makes too much sense.

Wouldn't Marlon make more sense? His naturally lighter skin can be explained by Palina while his ability to get a good tan is explained by Iscan. Marlon is derived from a type of fish and Iscan while plant based is one letter off Piscan which means "of fish". Basculin a Gen 5 pokemon that has a hisuian form that evolves into Basculegion the pokemon Iscan is warden of. Also fun fact, Marlon has a Jellicent as part of his team and Basculegions forms while derived from the earlier Basculin forms are gender based just like the frillish line which is shares the typing of with the noble being male Palina and Marlon both are heavily associated with swimming what with the goggles around their neck. Fun fact: Laventon is an example of the old-timey ways of naming people. "-Ton" is a suffix that means settlement or farm which has ties to the word "Town", with "Laven," as a shortened version of "Lavender." This means: There was potentially a Lavender Town in Galar long ago, and Laventon's family (therefore Hop, etc) originated there, and/or the Lavender Town we all know is named for professor Laventon. Additionally, Commander Komado, while definitely Rowan's ancestor, speaks with a Kansai accent when defeated in the JP version, which is the counterpart to Johto. He fled "some event" that made him both terrified and in awe of pokemon, which suggests that both he and Beni potentially fled during the Brass Tower incident, perhaps having lost their homes in the resulting fire. Morty, the gym leader there, also has a similar hairstyle to both Beni, which might suggest that he might have left behind family when leaving with Komado.

I'm very strongly sure that the first reason for Laventon's name was because they wanted the professor of meiji-restoration-period-hokkaido to be a direct reference to one Lafcadio Hearn, and that they took Mr. Hearn's name, pulled a plant reference out of it and made it british. (Also in languages that aren't english, his name is just derived from lavender or literally lavender without any notable extra additions that "make it british" so that -ton suffix or something like it was only done for the english translation. I even checked to make sure if Lavender the plant had a more proper rendering in kanji or hiragana in japanese to see if they rendered it in katakana for the professor to make him seem even more like a foreigner, but no, Lavender in japan is just the english word in katakana.) Lafcadio Hearn was an Irish-English novelist that had traveled to Japan during his life and fell in love with the culture there, especially the mythological culture surrounding shinto animism and youkai legends there. He stayed for many years, learning the language and compiling writings and stories of various youkai, to eventually return to the british isles to publish the stories and legends of youkai and the like, being one of the western world's very first sources of the spread of japanese culture. The dates of his lifetime and travels to the east even align pretty well with the time period the game represents.

If I remember right the Lake of Rage was formed by rampaging gyarados, which was in turn sparked by some sort of conflict. Yes, the Shadow Triad connection is a forced one, considering that Beni's hair isn't naturally white, he's just old, while the Shadow Triad hair color appears to be either natural or bleached. And Wally was even a ninja in the manga, which can be a little callback to the manga.

I think why Irida and Adaman are so hard to pin down to just one decedents might be because they are clan leaders. Clans in a lot older times tended to be mostly a bunch of family members. Irida and Adaman are just the head of their clans but that isnt to say they didnt have siblings that branched off so maybe they are direct descendants of anybody that we know of.

Okay just hear me out. Adaman and Irida both have a Gen 4 eeveelution. Irida prefers far colder places, like Shinnoh, so is not likely to leave. Places descendants in in modern day shinnoh. Irida’s dirty blonde hair could be lightened to pure blonde if mixed with Adaman’s yellow streak. Adaman is shown to be impatient and hate wasting time. Irida and the Pearl clan appear to value both having space and a lack of it. Irida is also at times rather childish. Regarding Melli, I am convinced that his decedent is meant to be Clair. Unfortunately the Pokémon don’t match up, but the hair color, the personality, that his necklace all match up. I think his necklace is that small detail of his that feel like it should be important. And with Adaman and Irida, I’m pretty sure it is said that their grandparents were the ones who started the clans, or at least that is hinted at in their post game fights when they give you the crystals. So it would make sense for them to also be the ancestors to Archie and Maxie.

I've always seen adaman as Sycamore and irida as may, mostly because the back of the hair matches mays. I've also looked at some more, "obscure pokemon" and noticed dexio and sina. Sina kind of resembles adaman with the hair, and then dexio having the blond hair with the highlights like irida. They also have eeveelution aces, like dexio and sina.

I think that Melli might have a small possibility of being both related to Avery Klara from Pokemon Sword and Shield's Isle of Amor DLC. Both Melli and Klara specialize in Poison type Pokemon. All three have important titles/roles in their games. (Melli being a warden and Avery becoming a Psychic type Gymleader as well as Klara becoming a Poison type Gymleader from the minor division) All three dress in a fancy/cutesy clothing with Melli having a long beanie hat and necklace which could be fancy and having flowers on his pants and beanie as well as a heart like pattern on his beanie which could be seen as cute. Melli and Avery both have long hair and long hats. All three have stuck up or bad attitudes which would change in front of their superior(s). (Melli changing in front of Adaman and Klara and Avery changing in front of Mustard and kind've with Honey) While Melli has purple eyes, Klara and Avery have blue eyes which through the generations could of changed to blue if one or more ancestors after Melli had blue eyes. And to fit with Avery's family being great Psychics we could say that during the way two of the ancestors split up into different families with one specializing with Psychic type Pokemon and the other family specializing in Poison type Pokemon kind've like Agatha and Bertha.

I really don't believe that theory. Too much of the dialogue from Cogita and Volo's own comments about Giratina show the contrary. More likely (especially because I believe that he was projecting his own issues onto Giratina), Volo was abandoned young, Cogita in some form took him under his wing - like a distant relative turned mentor - who clearly is annoyed with his seemingly lackadaisical attitude towards work. In short, he's undeniably descended from the Celestica, but the idea that he's a time traveler just comes off as a stretch too far.

My favorite theory is that Adaman and Irida are actually representations of Barry but split into two, not necessarily his ancestors. Adaman's impatience was an obvious parallel to Barry, whereas Irida isn't that obvious, but I think she represents Barry's desire to gain experience and grow stronger. I have a potentially weird theory (more like hypothesis, but still) If Palina and Iscan are meant to be references to ORAS Archie and Maxie, and the scrolls are very clearly meant to reference original Archie and Maxie, What if the individuals in those scrolls are actually meant to be the original Archie and Maxie through time travel, haven lost their memories like Ingo, they don't try to flood or burn the world, but still have that rivalry, thus forming the Diamond and Pearl clan. Then, eventually, Palina and Iscan eventually get together, eventually leading to ORAS Archie and Maxie. Basically, the idea is that by original Archie and Maxie getting sent to the past and forming the Diamond and Pearl clans, it caused a butterfly effect, which eventually causes the events of ORAS instead of the original games. I've yet to play Legends yet, so maybe there's something in the game that disproves this, but still thought I'd share it.

Koga and Janine are probably some of the most recognizeable ninjas in the series, and now Beni is a Ninja that also does the two finger thing like them, as well as use of smoke just like Koga in Let's Go. He also has a slight resemlance to Kabu from Galar, but that is the farthest stretch. My twos cents, however, is this: Beni TOTALLY connects to the Striaton brothers AND the Shadow Triad. When I saw a cook be a ninja, I immediately guessed it HAS to be a reference to the famous theory about these triplets being the same people. Although I will say this theory is MOST LIKELY debunked due to them appearing at the same time on screen, it might not necessarily be due to the fact that it was a memory, which could either be a lie, or through some mind control the Gym Leader Trio might not even be aware of their actions under influence of Team Plasma, which might be expanded upon later. Now I will list the similarities Beni displays with these: He is a white haired ninja like the Shadow Triad, strikes a similar pose as them in battle, and swears alliegance to Kamado to deal with people like you, even making his own extreme decisions. This is exactly what the Shadow Triad did to Ghetsis because he apparently saved them before, and they took matters into their own hands when Ghetsis went insane. Beni is also a cook that bears resemblance to the Striaton brothers and has Green, Blue, and Red in his design. His Japanese name is also a vegetable like the Striaton gym leaders. The fact that he is a ninja AND a cook is what solidifies this theory in my mind, but I really want to hear the thoughts of others on this possibility.

Something I've never seen as a possibility is that Melli could be an ancestor of (of all characters) Harley, that Cacturne guy from the anime. Sure it's weird to be the ancestor of an anime-only character, but it's basically like Melli having no kids at all, so it still sorta fits. Plus, Melli and Harley have the same hair and personality "quirk" of being awful to deal with. On top of all that, their hats could look basically the same considering there's no Cacturne in this region, so there's that to add.

Okay, so hear me out. What if Palina and Iscan were the actual ancestors to Shelly? Both Iscan and Palina have a connection to the sea and the Pokémon in it, including how they met. As for Shelly, her ORAS design has goggles as a prominent part of her design, as well as dark two-tone hair like Iscan's and a skin tone which falls more neatly between Pallina and Iscan. Meanwhile, her RSE look has red wavy hair and a bandanna, with caucasian skin. With that, it's possible that Iscan and Palina reference both of Shelly's possible appearances, making their connection timeline-proof

Now that the Scarlet and Violet DLC is wrapped up, aside from the obvious Perrin/Adaman connections, I think Melli is Penny's ancestor. The eye shape is identical and both can be considered a bit brusk, if that's genetic. That would also connect Melli to Peonia, Peony's daughter. Since the Hidden Treasure Epilogue made pretty clear that Peony is Penny's dad, that makes Peonia Penny's sister, and they both share Melli's eye shape and attitude lol

Love the theory of Palina and Iscan being related to Archie and Maxie. Although I’m still holding on to the theory of Iscan being related to Marshal. Iscan has that fear of ghosts so it makes sense to me that his descendant would use fighting types, a type that is immune to ghosts. Thus representing that he (or at least his ancestors) would overcome that fear.

They also both have a connection to nature, and Mallow is a trial captain, which means that she could be considered religious.
