@@Gnoggin That's okay man. Yeah depression & anxiety are some of the first signs of mercury poisoning which would explain why neo-Goodra is so emotionally clingy. What about Gallium
@qwertykins762 жыл бұрын
@@alldayagain Hey you might actually be onto something about Gallium. Just looking at the Wikipedia page for it has lead to a few promising things. The dude who discovered gallium was French which may tie in with Goodra being from Kalos. The word gallium come from Gallia which is apparently the Latin word for France. Gallium is non-toxic unlike mercury, so it is used in stuff like thermometers. Gallium is solid at room temperature but it's melting point is only slightly above that. It melts into liquid form in your hand. This actually makes sense for Hisuian Goodra because it has a solid metal shell and is also dripping some liquid metal substance from it's skin at the same time. The shell could just be insulted against Goodra's own body heat so that part of it stays solid. Gallium makes sense, it doesn't have the melancholy aspect but maybe Hisuian Goodra is sorta supposed to represent both since the 2 metals are often used in similar applications.

Goodra can have sap sipper, making it immune to grass types, and it normally resists them. Most other slimy pokémon are water/ground type (like Swampert and Seismitoad), and are super weak to grass because of it. My favourite theory about snails in medieval manuscripts is that monks very often tended gardens and grew vegetables (which I guess was also just an incredibly common job in that era), so they had strong ill-feelings towards these creatures that ate and damaged their plants. So the illustrations might have been a power fantasy about the snails getting their comeuppance, or just wishful fantasy about having someone to fight and deal with them for them.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up how it just looks like they evolved their tails different. Sligoo's "shell" looks like a premature version of Goodra's tail, giving it the snail look until it unfurls. While Hisuian Sligoo is able to change the hardness of its skins, so it uses its tail more "shell-like" than its counterpart. The fact that Goodra's tail turns into its shell just continues that theme.

Since you brought up the anime, a fun fact about Ash's Goodra is that it was on his team for 16 episodes. That's right, in the span of 16 espisodes (not counting the Mega Evolution Special), Ash caught a Goomy, learned about it's trauma, worked through it's fear of Fairies, evolved it into a Sligoo, the into a Goodra (keep in mind this is a pseudo legendary evolving in between five episodes each), had a gym battle with it, defended it's home and the released it until it came back for the Kalos League. Keep in mind, they didn't appear in all 16 episodes. I'm not trying to say this is a problem, I love the Goodra line because of Ash's and didn't realise how fast it came and went until five years after XY had ended. Goodra was short lived but well handled (let's just not talk about the Kalos League.)

I've read somewhere that one of the theories for all those snails in miniatures is that snails were just freaking everywhere in monasteries especially, being cold, shady and most of them kind of humid. This was waaaaay before pesticides and monasteries all had gardens so snails were basically ubiquitous. That and there's a little innuendo involved because snails have been associated with the male genitalia (for pretty obvious reasons), so knights fighting snails could be a dirty inside joke. Most scribe monks were young novices since glasses(or similar devices:the first glasses were invented around the 13th century, before some people used magnifying glass gizmos and it wasn't common) were expensive and the job was very, VERY tedious, older monks had too bad of an eyesight and better things to do. Thus is pretty easy to imagine a 17 yo sitting all day in front of his work thinking about dirty jokes and drawing silly things.

I love this but I’m also tempted to push back against the “humans scared but just want to be friends” idea for why H-Goodra is upset. Every stage from Goomy to Goodra attacks first when they spot you in the wild. Yet they don’t really have many predators out and about in the Crimson Mirelands at least. The fairy types nearby are peaceful like Ralts and Togepi line and there’s no ice types if I’m remembering correctly to hit Goomy. Upon evolving They gain an immunity to the nearby poison types and are further resistant now to most types or now neutral to everything except Fighting and Ground since Dragon/Ice/Fairy are all resisted by Steel. In the Highlands habitat probably it’s biggest predator in Hisui, the Gible line, are in abundance… which might back up your theory that Sharpedo native to Sinnoh eventually evolved into Gible but now we can speculate it is not only due to Ocean competition but due to its (potential) main food source the Sea Snails and Slugs that would become the Goomy line going to ground. Which even could explain why an escargatoire of the Goodra line migrated all the way up a mountain. Do you think the Gible line ultimately finished off the Goomy line is Sinnoh and caused it to eventually ditch the Steel type? I mean the Sharpedo line does learn Ice Fang naturally so even if Goomy was dragon type when it lived in the sea that wouldn’t stop it from being hunted by the proposed ancestors of the Gible line.

Another possible origin: In Japanese mythology, if a supposed breed of *Giant Triton Snail* reaches 1000 years of age, it gains a pseudo-sentience, and travels down the mountains it was said to live in via landslides, to live closer to civilization. There, it spends *another* 1000 years of it's life, learning about the world around it, and gaining more Dragon-Like features (Horns, a muzzle, Etc.). Finally, it heads under the ocean water for *ANOTHER* 1000 years, after which it transforms into a dragon known as a "Shussebora", roughly translating to "Elevated Triton Snail", with an intelligence that surpasses that of not only the average human, but even the average Kami or Yokai. This leads me to 3 main points. 1: The Triton Snail that is said to become the Shussebora is located in moist, damp undergound caves, while Goomy is found in the swampy regions of Kalos and Hisui (Such as route 14 of Kalos, or the Crimson Marshland of Hisui). 2: Goodra's evolutionary line goes from: "Barely sentient", to "Struggles to tell friends from food", and finally to "Smart, and *very* friendly". This mirrors the Shussebora going from an ordinary snail, to gaining intelligence and dragon-like features, and finally a true dragon, with all the intelligence that entails. 3: Finally, considering goomy looks more snail-like than dragon-like, Sliggoo has a second pair of protrusions on it's head (Almost like horns, huh?), and Goodra is more Dragon-Like than Snail-Like, I think it's quite clear what this line is based on! :)

Ironically i feel believing snails lived up in the mountains is more believable than the true magical fact that no, ur island just used to be underwater.

Hisuian Goodra may be the result of Hisui/Shinnoh being based on a large mountain range. The weather is possibly colder than in Kalos so Hisuian Goodra gained the Steel type to counter its dragon type weakness to the cold. The cold may also affect its personality.

Just saying Goodra's by far my favourite pokemon, ever since i added a Goomy to my main team in X/Y~

Speaking cladisticaly, Saurapods (those with long necks and walk on four legs), are more related to the Theropods (the bipedal walking dinos that includes raptors and T-Rexes) than other dinos as they are both Saurischians (reptile hipped due to the arrangement of their hips being like that of reptiles). While the others like stegosaurus and triceratops are Ornithischian (bird hipped).

A grass/dragon (or water idk) goomy form based on the costaseilla kuroshimae (adorable little things that can photosynthesise) would be so cool
@JamesDavy20092 жыл бұрын
If they did similarly for Meowth's variants there does exist a (small) probability. A factor against that variant is the fact that at least one Grass/Dragon Pokémon had been introduced in the recent two generations: Alolan Exeggutor and the Applin evolution line.

Goodra is easily one of my top 5 Pokémon of all time! It’s the first shiny I found after coming back to Pokémon. Its also got this soft and squishy appearance which makes it super approachable and lovable. That also ties into its dex entries being attention driven and almost sad, which makes me feel for it as well. Tldr, I love Goodra and it deserves all of the hugs
