Many auto manufacturers have been drinking the the EV koolaid of the politicians on the left and lost billions of dollars on the EV sector, so they try to make up the lost by increasing the prices of ICE vehicles that people want. The result is both EV and ICE vehicle sales fall like landslides.

Greed may be part of it, but when the metal, wiring, computer chips, the payfor the factory workers increasing to remain competitive etc. all cost 4x as much as it did 5 years ago it's not all greed, it's what they have to charge to manufacture them. They make a profit because they have to pay their bills and sales workers too. It's the state of the economy being in the garbage that's to blame.

Dealers and dealerships have no right to complain about huge negative equity on cars and higher car prices. They were the main reason that we find ourselves in this situation. Most stuff (even cars)during covid were actually just sitting in the "backroom" they made people believe there were shortages but in fact that was not the case. They just took advantage of the situation and used it to their advantage. I just cannot believe what they did to pull all this off. There are ENORMOUS warehouses/distribution centers that I've seen as a trucker out in the middle of butt nowhere throughout the country. I mean ENORMOUS dude, like almost a mile in length. There's no way there were "shortages" I personally cannot believe that based on what I've seen throughout the country 😮

Market price is market price. It was high during covid and now it's coming down. Doesn't really have much to do with the dealers. There was a lot of shortages during covid in the new and used market which drove prices up. Are you asking dealers to sell for less than market price out of the goodness of their heart? I wasnt sorry for the consumer then and I'm not sorry for the dealers now. Economics is economics.
@idi0tsavant
@idi0tsavant 3 күн бұрын
@@IcyDeath91 The issue is that these things weren’t “market price” during COVID. They gouged the prices so high just because they could (under the guise of “increased shortages in materials” or an “increase in labor costs”) you can see in their quarterly reports they had “record breaking profits” all during this time. You think “record breaking profits” happen when you’re only adjusting for economic inflation? Corporations will take advantage of us any way they can, if we let them. Don’t let them.

You can if you just refuse to roll over negative equity. When your car payment runs out, half of each payment after that goes back to budget, half to a "next car' savings account. I paid for my new Toyota Minivan in 3 years and kept it over 10 years. We gradually lowered our "next car" deposits after the first three years. The Toy still drives excellent, but our needs have changed and we're ready to spend some of our "next car" account.

I see the same trend in South Africa. The reserve banks keep pushing up the interest rates and the inflation keeps rising. Basic cars are way more expensive than ever before so much so that the middle class person struggles to purchase even a small car. Car finance houses now even offer a 94 month term to pay off vehicle to try and make them cheaper to own on instalments if the vehicle values are too high. Eventually the market will crash where people will stop buying new cars. Hopefully prices for new cars will eventually come down to an extent where they are more affordable for people to buy again. Even second hand cars aren’t affordable for people anymore.

You want to be able to blame the govt for high prices, move to China or North Korea. It's not enough for corporations to turn a profit, they have to show large gains annually to make more and more money for their shareholders and justify the ungodly executive salary bonuses every year. Also why alot of layoff's happen late in the fiscal year, that adds to the profit margin. I'll caveat that you can blame the legislative branch for letting their coporate donors dictate much if not all legislation they pass, that goes for both parties. @@klesko55 They can't build more gas cars, and have now stopped. EPA imposed a very dysfunctional model to get "more MPG" out of their cars. It's on a "as a whole" basis per manufacturer and the lighter the weight of the vehicle, the more MPG it has to squeeze out. The heavier the less. Example: A 3200 lb compact sedan getting 35 MPG is extremely doable now and would be better than a 6000 lb truck getting 25. Most people can see that logic. But EPA says no. That 3200 lber has to be able to do 45 MPG and a 6000 lb truck well ok 25 mpg that's cool. Car manufacturers have been able to even keep up with the EPA, safety, etc standards up until now, but it's really coming home to roost. Meanwhile, foreign competition just floods in unchecked by tariffs, unlike what they do do us. Let's not even get into the other aspects of political and social pressures, and then there's the unions. American car manufacturers are not only to blame.
