I used to own a food truck called "The Olympian", which operated out of Olympia Washington, and had a picture of Mount Olypmus painted on it (the one in Washington state, no the one in Greece or California). Thee USIOC sent me a cease and desist, and threatened legal action. I spoke with an attorney who said it would be an easy win for me in court, but when I asked for an estimate on legal fees, the answer was more than my truck made in a year. It looked NOTHING like the Olympic logo, but they had to change it. The IOC are thuggish, sometimes. They shouldn't own the rights to any interlocking five rings. At this point though, the US and France are the only countries even willing to host the Olympics and will likely soon be only the US. All fifty-two signatories to the Nairobi Treaty became obligated under the treaty to protect Olympic Symbols against use for commercial purposes without authorization of the IOC. Under the Nairobi Treaty, if the IOC authorizes use of an Olympic Symbol in a country that is a party to the treaty, then that country's National Olympic Committee is entitled to a portion of any revenue generated from the IOC's authorization of use. Basically, the IOC uses the money from licensing Olympic trademarks to run and manage the Olympics (and other sporting initiatives) and the USOC gets a portion of the USA-generated money to support the USA Olympics team (and other sporting initiatives)

We had the choice of paying a licensing fee or being sued because the visual of the rings could not be considered 'news access'. We've received similar letters during Olympic Games for applying 'pan and zoom' animation to licensed photographs in a way that could be 'confused with live footage'. I remember when Prime launched in South Africa. Our supermarkets had a limit on how many a person could buy. The kids went crazy. It sold for about R 40.00 which is about $2.00 which doesnt sound like much but a Monster costs half that. It wasnt long before supermarkets started having specials on Prime and now Prime is nowhere to be found in our stores, maybe in the cities. Im proud to say I gave none of my money to that shit😂😂

The amount of people who do business with a man like Logan Paul, Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, Martin Shkreli, et al never ceases to amaze. But human greed has never known any limits.

Prime was going for as much as £10.00 a bottle here once in the UK. Now you can buy them 4 for £1.00 and even then nobody's bothering.

The Paul Brothers (not sure which one specifically since they’re both equally bland to me and I can’t tell them apart) are honestly solely responsible for the scalping shitshow of Pokémon and Yugioh cards that’s been happening for the last few years and honestly, though it’s unrelated, I’m glad to see at least one of them finally seeing some comeuppance for idiocy and affluenza

It wasn't just them. They copied what a released from prison ex banker said in an interview in 2014/15. That guy had realized how easily exploitable nerd collectibles are, and basically rebuild all the fortun he had lost in its prior trial, and the Paul brothers just followed him to the T.

I've only seen Prime being sold at three different dollar stores. Dusty full shelves of Prime in the back of dollar stores seems a fitting end for this beverage.

I wish it was that unsuccessful. In Texas it’s at every grocery and convenience store. I see kids everywhere drinking it.

Prime is being sold at huge discounts at my local grocery store, and no one is buying it. Almost as if nobody wants it.

One thing I've VERY proud of is that until the South Park episode made me research it I had NO clue what 'Prime' was, and I've certainly never bought that junk.

Me too. I never understood why people were driving miles and queuing around the block to buy it? I don’t get it. I hope those people now feel like losers now the novelty has worn off and many shops have shelves full of Prime that they can’t sell. I haven’t bought 1 bottle.

So you're saying you're proud that you live under a rock? 😂 The stuff is sold everywhere, you'd have to be quite the shut-in to not know about it.

I keep seeing Prime in the drink section of stores and always have the slightest temptation to buy it and see if it's as shit as everyone says but so far I've managed to stay strong.

Why is nobody talking about the obvious ripoff of the logo from all the "Prime inc." freight trucks that have been trudging along I-40 for years? How on Earth have they not sued? When I first saw this bottled flavor-aid in the grocery store my first thought was "Man, it's weird that a trucking company is releasing a drink"

Generally speaking, a trademark on one product doesn't infringe the same trademark on a very different type of product. E.g., for the Prime case, the IOC brings up the fact that there is a direct competitor to Prime using their trademark.

@@Pyrian So why is the USOC suying taco trucks and restaurants? Different brands get into different businesses all the time. Bally Manufacturing originally made pinball machines. Then they made slot machines. Then they started gyms. Then they were associated with casinos and hotels. Then they had sports networks. How are those things related? All the same logo, all related companies.
@sapincher2 ай бұрын
@@Pyrian Imagine you start a brick store, and sell just bricks. Each brick is stamped with the Microsoft logo in the same font, with the only difference being the four squares logo have slightly rounded edges. We're all not lawyers, and Microsoft has never sold bricks, but I have a feeling there would be some confusion and legal paperwork soon after your brick store opens. What do I know, I'm just a car farmer.

coincidentally, she also mentioned Logal in her defamation lawsuit, so it might be "everyone is suing Logal Paul part 2: electric boogaloo"
@LadyArtemis19982 ай бұрын
I'd say probably not, since LegalEagle covers US law cases and that specific defamation case was filed in France, so under French law.
