Check Ruri's playthrough. When he cooks food he picks Monster Chili as the final ingredient, which specifically says it "negates the effects of hot or cold climates and increases defense while in such areas". Hot and cold climates and needing to counteract their effects are both in.

It probably wouldn't be all that hard if the purple/red/orange song list still gets Melodies Extended. Play the whole 1st song list, swap, play Attack Up, and then extend like twice a minute. All good, enjoy double the song lists with just 1 HH

Self Improvement works more like a weapon specific boost than a song effect (think LS red spirit, IG triple extract, etc). I doubt it'll apply to other weapons any more than other weapons' specific boosts will apply to it. What's most likely happening there is that Self Improvement is just not being canceled out, so if you were to swap back to HH you wouldn't have to reapply it every time. Whether or not that works the same way with normal buffs like Attack Up is something that'll need to be tested, but if it does I wouldn't be too happy. HH should be a weapon you use to buff AND fight with, not a buffing tool you trade your 2nd weapon slot for to get freebie boosts. I mean, it'll probably be very tedious to be constantly swapping weapons every time a buff expires, but still

Being a little too ethical for my taste. Especially for something as drastic as a weapon slot. If they want the support weapon to give buffs for their main weapon, that should definitely be an option. It adds a whole level of strategy to the game that shouldn’t be walled off.

@@chalnervassor9430 it's less ethical and more a game balance concern. HH has historically had lower damage than other weapons to compensate for the buffing abilities. If other weapons can use this ability without the damage penalty, the only weapon that's being balanced for utilizing it is the 1 that has the unique gimmick in the 1st place. It'd also devalue its niche if you don't actually have to use it to take advantage of its main benefits. That'd be design oversight if you ask me, and the only solution would be to either: A) have it not work or B) if it does, remove the HH damage penalty. That way its advantage for using its own ability is being able to use it much more efficiently (since constantly swapping weapons for buffs will probably end up being tedious)

personally i choose to see it as tryhards going "oh thank god now i won't have to do my stupid buff" when i join their hunts, still being appreciative, and also, what matters to me is that my baby is fun to play. im such a dedicated horn main that i barely know to play dual blades just to have a tail cutting weapon, so it'll be fun to have an incentive to learn a second weapon for real

Man I'm conflicted. I really didn't think horn buffs would persist when changing weapons, especially not self improvement. I'm glad more people will use it, but I don't wanna see my favorite weapon become just another supplement to all the weapons that already hit hard. Or maybe i just don't want to lose my persona as the horn main in the random lobbies lol. Though, i am excited to have two different sets of songs to use. I'd have to imagine buff timers are limited somehow, though.

I agree with you, it feels like a game-y mechanic to me. Like instead of choosing different weapons for lets say, different situations (2 different types of the same weapon) or different monsters (long-range weapons for flying/annoying monsters), you choose a different weapons to min/max 😢 if it does work like that, hey you do you I guess, but personally it would kinda ruin my immersion 😅

I think HH will be fine. As seen in the HH showcase, most of the movesets are faster. And the new Echo Bubbles deals dmg whenever you perform. During Gamescon, the producers(?) mentioned that HH got a great dmg buff to not be a "support" weapon (not sure about other avenues they used to buff HH). Also, if they'll only used HH for buff, they'll miss the joy of dootmaxxing

its a fantastic way to encourage weapon swapping. seeing as the majority of players will just play the weapon they want to play without ever really swapping weapons since they just want to play the weapon they want to. This will be a great way to encourage those players to interact with the system to at least some degree, and its not like those who want to keep status based weapon swaps, or element based, stun, ranged, etc wont have those options as well. Its something that is almost definitely intended and should stay.

Finally. Gender locked gear was a big iffy thing for me. I enjoy playing female characters, but I hated almost all the helmets. They always felt the need to show the face and it's like "No. Let me be a Kamen Rider."

Well...this video aged like milk. Not only does Self Improvement not work for other weapons, but the Attack Up song was rebalanced specifically so that it gives next to nothing when used this way (4% in the beta). On the other hand, if you're using HH to actually use HH, Self Improvement now also gives it a nice 20% attack boost! Basically, the power's been redistributed towards the weapon itself and away from just using it as a buffing minigame for other weapons.

Within a week of release people are gonna see how inefficient it is to play all their songs and then switch to their “main” weapon. Buffs don’t last long, the point of playing the horn is to constantly upkeep them mid fight. Having to switch back and reapply buffs every 10-20 seconds sounds exhausting.

Glad to see Longsword move away from the Helm Breaker/Iai Counter focus, and get back to a "fast strikes/good positioning" weapon. Don't get me wrong, those moves are fun, but they feel more fun when they're a tool in the box to use when necessary, and not the literal best thing you could ever be doing. I'm so excited to use every weapon and learn the ones I historically don't use, this definitely seems like the game to do it with.

the removal of genderlocked armor was probably my most desired feature I'm so happy it's finally here. I personally really do not like the thigh chest and face windows that a lot of female armor has so I would play as a male hunter instead but it didn't feel like a fun compromise. Rise was a step in the right direction where you could have any hair face and voice on either body type, but I think the full removal of the body type distinction combo'd with the ability to mix and match pieces from both sets is such a great change for everyone

What determines how much longsword will be used is how much access it has to damage mitigation/ counters If it can freely enter multiple kinds of counter stances very quickly with no downsides then this weapon will be the most used weapon in the game for most of the game's early lifespan much the same way in rise

Its pretty cool that hunting horn buffs stay after swapping weapons. You either choose to use hunting horn and use its utility/buffs for the weapon you want to use, or you bring a second weapon that serves a function for the weapon itself, like a ranged option, stun building option, status, etc. Really cool that it functions this way, hope it stays.

One thing I'm curious about, if you happened to notice during your gameplay session, is do loadouts take into account the two different weapons you take in with you. Normally you'd have a build that was specific to a weapon, such as dual blades, that wouldn't necessarily transfer to say a hammer. Does the game allow for a swap between loadouts/builds when you have two vastly different weapons equipped

Might be a bit of a stretch of a question given your timeframe but how does the locales work? Is it similar to world where you travel to the savannah area or the forest area(where Lala Barina lives) in the hub and its just a huge area to explore, or is it one giant map and a zone in the savannah has the entrance to the forest area? or my big fear, is it just a patch of forest off in the corner and we're stuck in the this mostly savannah map for 300+ hours?

It sounds like it's one giant map, but you can't just go everywhere at the start of the game. It's been said that new zones will unlock throughout the story, of course it's not mostly just desert.

AFAIK this demo version only had the Plains, so we have to rely on previous developer interviews and etc for this. From what we understand: -Locales are locked by quest progress exactly like previous MH games, you can't go everywhere at the start. This most likely means they will only be connected by certain narrow corridors that will be opened up through game progress, it won't be like a GTA game or something. -Some of the locales are connected seamlessly and you can ride between them with no loading screens, but others need fast travel to reach. -There's no reason to worry about being in the Plains 24/7, while it is a larger map than previous MH games, it's still a relatively normal MH locale, there's no reason to think we'll spend most of the game there. The speculative comparison I think will be most accurate is FF7 Rebirth. Stuff is seamlessly connected, but not in a typical gameplay sense for open world freedom, it's to make the first time you enter a new zone cooler and give you the option of taking a walk from one zone to another if you feel like it- Practically speaking, you will still be warping to locales like a traditional MH game

thanks for all the infos and feedback. you did not talk about the music, which is okay, any remarks? as a horn main I don't know how i feel about this. i *exclusively* play the horn - horn 1: +ATK - horn 2: +ELE and the refresh buff song. see where i'm going with this? ... :) I think what we need to know is how efficient, practical is it to summon the mount to swap weap. can i say topple a monster, then swap to a hammer/GS for a big wakeup? can i call my mount in combat? Can i put down *TWO* bubbles? (hornA and hornB ?) i can see myself never drinking on foot. need health? mount, enjoy the full mobility of the mount while drinking, get a free jump attack.. (side note the sax is awesome). is teleporting to camp still possible? is it even needed? if i never go back to camp, do i progress in the msq? ... etc etc.. can't wait to see how the multiplayer is implemented... are we 16 in the map? or only four, but 16 in the base?...

Some people are saying it will help horn playrates but all it's gonna do is have people let it sit in their bag until they pull it out every couple min to rebuff. Unless we get monsters swapping resistances like crazy no weapon swap is going to be more valuable than 30 sec of horn for 20% more damage and minds eye for 3 min on any weapon.

It seems like wounding the monster sounds much better than clutch claw, since it happens by attacking normally instead of trying to claw onto the monster and then wound the part. When there's a wound, you can also do some flashy special moves called "Focus attacks" and seem to remove the wound after doing them The 2 main problems with clutch claw (and wounding mechanic) is that it was somewhat cumbersome to try and use and maintain and the quality of clutch claw integration into the weapon kit varied wildly (one good example is Lance vs. Insect Glaive, Lance has a cool claw counter move but Glaive can't even claw with its weapon out)

Important question about weapon swapping. How does armor factor into it? We used to build for specific weapons but what if you are carrying two that need completely different skills to peak? Do you also change armor sets on the fly or do we just have to cope and make compromises when building.

Something visible in the video but that I don't think you mentioned out loud is that HH is reverting back to what folks were used to in World compared to what we got in Rise, which was the simplified note play combos. I'll miss the ease of just busting out song combos but it's cool to have that tactile "you have to actually *play* the instrument" return.

Nice footage and I'm glad you enjoyed the demo. I think I'll much appreciate those Long Sword changes too since I'm not a fan of the "Counter and Spirit Helmbreaker" focused play style. I think I've seen someone else mention on GameFAQs that a Food buff menu mentioned it giving Hot/Cold resistance effects, so that's evidence to suggest Hot and Cool Drinks are returning.

I think you're overestimating the usefulness of this. I think it'll be greatly beneficial for Horn mains, not players who are trying to maximize dps for speedrunning. Speedrunning in specific requires players to spend as little time as possible to hunt a monster and this strat will take like 30+ seconds just to get the buffs out. This isn't going to be nearly as impactful for non Horn mains as you think lol. It's great for us Dooters, but nothing close to being meta imo

The large majority of the playerbase will care far more about playing the weapons they want to bring than forcing themselves to only play one weapon while the other is there to give their main boosts. Again, you people are overestimating the potential usefulness of this strategy lol. The majority of players won't want to call Seikret, take out the Horn, jump off Seikret, play all the buffs, sheathe the Horn, get back on Seikret, bring out their primary, and continue to hunt. That is such a waste of time versus how much you'd benefit. Being able to grant yourself free earplugs btw doesn't make up for the fact that you'd still need to slot in multiple skills for Horn to make it useful enough for this strategy. That's gaining one small skill and having to sacrifice at least 3 or more slots. There's less to gain than there is to lose with this strategy unless you're bringing 2 Horns.

Genuinely didn't think HH buffs would persist after being put away, holy moly that's a huge change! One question however, did you notice if there was a buff duration reduction/extension? if not, horn maestro might just be a permanent skill on my armor, I also spotted a timer countdown when the buffs get close to expiration at 6:50! Now i want to see....if self improvement stacks with a white extract from insect glaive, that'd be crazy

@@paganofthenorth448you have to take the time to queue up the notes, play the song, then get to your seikret to swap weapons, and then swap back to do the whole song and dance all over again every minute or so. I feel like if you're bringing hunting horn exclusively to buff your main weapon, it's not worth it. You'd get better value sticking to your main weapon or bringing a secondary that can status or stun the monster (which hunting horn can do but it's not the best at getting KOs).

I would almost guarantee that the devs will lean into the 2 weapon mechanic by need to carry a range and melee for optimal dps in some hunts. Also, I would bet there will be a dual elemental monster that you will need to carry 2 weapons with different elements. I think the hunting horn combo with another weapon will be meta for some hunts I don’t think it will be for all or even most hunts. More likely to see range and melee combo, but this is all speculation and crazy idea talk rn.

I would understand if buffs like attack up stays on your character, but I would be extremely surprised if self improvement really gives other weapons those buffs. Self improvement makes HH goes from one of the slowest movements speeds to literally the fastest (imagine that movements speed with GS) and minds eye for anything would be crazy too

As a hunting horn main I would strongly recommend giving the weapon a shot. It's a weapon that seems very simple on the surface but has a lot of thought behind it. It is certainly not the biggest dps weapon on its own but allows you to adapt to any situation or cripple a monster by making its greatest strength meaningless (see dreadqueen rathian with ailment negation or daora with wind pressure negation). My friends all say that they can feel a massive change to a hunt depending on if I'm there or not. I also personally love having to carefully select which horn is best for a hunt by not only looking at damage and element numbers but at the song lists as well. Where others only need 1 good fire weapon....I have 4.

as much as i understand the desire for the old armor skill system, i doubt we're ever gonna go back to it. it's too confusing for new players who put on a thing that says it gives attack up and then they check and see their attack hasn't changed. it's also a much bigger commitment to build yourself for just a few skills that i don't think most people playing the game casually want to think about. overall, i think the new system is better because it allows more surface level engagement for people who just wanna have a fun time, but still massively rewards those who take the time to optimize their skills for maximum damage.

Considering how HH works, I doubt there's gonna be a ton of people actually doing it if they intend not to use the weapon for combat. The buffs are great, but the whole point of how the weapon is designed is that you need to keep reaplying them over and over again during a fight. Also I've heard that Seikret is not infinitely spammable, or at least not always available, so there's that as well.
