If you watch the video, during the full burst attacks the sharpness meter barely (if at all) moves. Sharpness is not looking like a problem so far.

Part of the reason you’re all confused thinking it doesn’t consume much (if any) sharpness because you aren’t aware that the Sharpness Meter has been changed. It no longer displays the sharpness level you’re currently at, it instead displays your ENTIRE sharpness bar. So despite looking like it’s not consuming much, it is actually eating a more significant chunk than you realize. We’ll have a better idea of any tweaks they’ve done to the sharpness consumption when we eventually get an open demo. For now just keep in mind that the visual graphic is not the one you’re used to.

4:21 Here’s a clear example of shells consuming sharpness. But man you really have to zoom in. I don’t like the new Sharpness Bar. It tries to show waaay too much and consequently fails to effectively convey what’s actually important; how many hits you have left with your current sharpness level.

Something to correct. The wyvern fire recharge is recovered by *any* hit not just shelling. This is in the official control guide and can be seen in your footage when slapping. It means we got the same mechanic as the other ranged weapons.

I like that you can see the sharpness as a single bar with the breakpoints, and the icon showing blade damage as you continue to decline. Also each time you swipe the sharpening stone, you get a portion of your sharpness back. It seems like you might be able to sharpen quicker if your weapon is closer to full sharpness

I absolutely love that the quick reload animations are more natural and flow with the combo. Hopefully that means that mastery of the weapon will mean you're just slathering the monsters with shells and it'll look super badass.

I love the damage numbers I'm seeing from wyvern fire. It's actually worth using, rather than being a dps loss like it was in world. Also helps that it looks like you get to use it much more often. This looks like it is hands down going to be the best iteration of gunlance.

As a Hammer main, I'm a little envious of the other weapons. They seem to have more new features... Hammer got a dash while holding charge and that's huge, I think the big bang combo has armor now, also dope. But idk if there are any new moves on top of that. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. On the other hand, Insect Glaive losing its bounce on the midair flurry attack is a freakin' war crime

I've dabbled with gunlance in most of the older games but the changes in Wilds look amazing, it seriously is making me want to main it. But then, so do lance, bow, SnS, charge blade, LS, and most of the others. It's going to be really hard to pick which weapons I want to prioritize. Good problem to have, I guess!

Funnily enough, I don't play gunlance, but the most interesting thing (or rather new thing) I saw was right at the end of the video you can begin shelling directly after a reload, shooting directly into the air. Seems like it'll be another nice option to attack flying monsters, without needing to do that advancing rising slash thing from older games to aim upwards.

From what I’ve gathered, power clashes occur when you parry (perfect block) a specific monster move. Similar to how monsters have attacks that will grapple the player, monsters in Wilds have (a) move(s) that will trigger the Power Clash when parried. Maybe it’s actually when you party the monster’s grapple attack, that would make sense to me but that part is speculation on my end. If anyone can find footage of a player being grappled and cross reference that with footage of a player initiating a Power Clash with that same monster you’d be able to confirm whether it was the same move or not.

The devs have said that power clashes are a hidden meter that builds up, like mounting or statuses, and perfect blocks make that meter rise a lot faster than normal blocks, but any kind of block can do it when it reaches the top of that meter I think of it like a monster getting really upset that it's not able to hit you - and if you don't play the clash minigame correctly, it's actually a punishment for blocking too often because your DPS uptime is gone and if you fail the clash you take a hit

I was a little sad the first Wyrmstake Full Blast doesn't reload beforehand, because the idea of "Fullburst, Wyrmstake Full Blast, Multi Wyrmstake Full Blast, Wyvern's Fire" was rocking in my head But damn, it still looks so cool. And I don't mind skipping FB to get those new combos together. And a SECOND CHARGE OF WYVERN'S FIRE *more* than makes up for it

The devs said that they'd be looking to increase HH's damage potential, and in the last Capcom Germany stream hunt of Rey Dau there were 2 LS, a DB, and a HH user. Someone counted up the damage numbers and the HH only did about 5% less damage than both LS users--and that's with the LS users being buffed by the HH's songs too,you take that away and the HH would've actually been AHEAD. Now Bow...yeah we'll probably be behind all the ranged weapons as per usual lol, but HH definitely has some potential going for it this time...

Shells don't decrease sharpness, recharge Wyvern Fire and SCALE WITH ATTACK. If Artillery is back it's gonna be insane. Artillery+AttackUp+HuntingHorn buffs...

gunlance has a lot of similarities playstyle wise to gs, even more in wilds, so once you learn the combos you'll feel right at home (even the tackle through moves to keep a tcs going, you get new guard points for the same purpose)

Wild gunlance looks...wild! I'm excited to see what they do with the best weapon. But I have a lot of questions and potential concerns with it. The gunlance's new moveset seems particularly suited for normal shelling. Which is entirely fine, of course, and looks fun. But with the emphasis on full bursts, I can't help but wonder how wide and long will play. Will there be any changes to the moveset at large? Any changed or wyvernfire?

Actually all weapons can power clash. Weapons without a blocking ability have to land an "offset attack" which collides with a monster's attack giving a small chance to power clash. It's not something that you want to try and do with the Insect Glaive but it can be done.

@@Bryanneo1 One thing to bear in mind is that the gauge is ALL your sharpness, not just your current color (like it is in world), so it not moving much might partly be because of that. (That being said I didn't play Rise where I think the sharpness also shows your whole gauge, so maybe people are still correct that it moves less.)

Honestly a thing i do wonder is how like (likely endgame) hunts are gonna use the weapon swap mechanic, (like a soft alatreon sort of thing for weapon damage aka piercing, bludgeoning, slashing). Like there are arleady some weapons that synergize togheter in skill decently enough, while others.. don't. Hammer + Greatsword both use focus and "can" stun monsters. While yhea i could bring two of the same weapon.. i'd have no reason to swap the weapon. Like imo even if aerial glaive is likely gone it's gonna be one of the most used weapons merely for being able to hit spots that more low hitting weapons just can't + IG's best skills are either overall good skills like airborne or power prolonger WHICH is good on most other weapons.

Not a fan of normal shelling, so all I am seeing is a stuff that heavily buffed a playstyle I will never use. The things I do like seem to be broader mechanics not Gunlance mechanics. Power Clashes being a blocking weapon only feature is nice as it gives something Lance and Gunlance can do to help be that tank. Weapon attacks while mounting is also nice. The charged shelling unloading all shells I don't know how I feel. I think it might be good by giving long and wide faster gameplay but it feels like the change to gunlance is to make everything unload everything which is kinda eh. Like why have ammo counts if nearly everything just unloads all of it idk. Still waiting to see if blast dash is removed or not because I feel that was a major boon for GL helping you keep up in the monsters face blocking and blasting. If that is gone given what I have seen (which again is just normal shelling my least favorite) I might have to main another weapon in the early game

Really curious as to what they will do with other shelling types. They always are better at something, but I don’t think they’ll be as cool as wyrmstake full blast combo with normal shells. Long shelling would do great with the new charged shelling system, but I don’t know where wide will fit in here. It used to be the premier way of shot poking or quickly spamming wyrmstake with two strong shots. Also hoping they introduce elemental shells as well, just imagining a Rey Dau Railgun GL blasting lightning Wyvern fire shots.

you can wyrmstake from one shell now with the shell -> running sweep -> wyrmstake. the running widesweep and wyrmstake animations together still outspeed shell shell wyrmstake in older games. even if wide doesn't get a better wyrmstake, the stronger single shell or spam all the shells then go for wyrmstake will be very fast and safe thing to spam for consistent damage. im just hoping that wyrmstake is still strong like world and not mid damage like rise. evade shelling itself is gunna be very nice on wide, reposition and deal the most damage

Is Guard reload or Quick reloading returning..? I can tell that Blast dash doesn't seem to have returned. which suchs but I get why I've just gotten so used to the Quick reload GP on Valor GL in GU and Guard reload in Rise letting me GP mid combo... hopefully something similar exists

Hey Ruri, I have a question for you if you don't mind. While I know you didn't play all the weapons, you obviously have a better grasp of things than I do. Which weapon is LEAST changed from World? Meaning, if I we're to replay World right now, which weapon has the most crossover with what you've seen and played on Wilds so far?

Probably great sword, lance, LBG or HBG GS:can now turn LS: new moves SnS: new inputs maybe? DB: perfect rush? Ham: new combos HH: reworked Lance: gained baggage for a combo finisher. GL: yes SA: new 360 replacing combo upswing. CB: new philes and SAED nerf long live savage axe. IG: now has to do damage instead of trying to fly forever. Lbg: no change, unless you were doing something wrong ammo was pretty much infinite anyway HBG: same Bow: now has to apply coating way more often.

Honestly? Might be a gunlance main when wilds launches. Tweaked my current build to have way less sharpness consumption and probably gonna start really learning it.

Loving what we're seeing with GL, overall. My only 2 issues, for it in particular, are that charged shelling seams to function more like a full burst now and how it seams they couldn't come up with much to make shelling stronger so they just added raw scaling like CB's impact phials. That second one hurts more since if it functions more like CB then the question is more valid of "why gl when you can cb?" Weapons should be less alike and have their niches. Otherwise, why have them if you're going to condense them in such a way that they end up working the same way? It's not taht far yet but it is a possiblity down the road and them just slapping adept style stuff on almost everything is a step towards that.

i agree about how the devs solutions are to just homogenize everything so it appeals to "everyone" instead of someone like you'd want with 13(14) different weapons so everyone can find rhe perfect fit. seeing people say they want to play every weapon in wilds is a bad thing when you consider who is getting left out for these statements to exist. Im still not 100% convinced shelling scales with raw. the idea that buffs like hh would apply to shelling was already expected since we got the concept from sunbreak and mhnow where damage increases are buffing both raw and shelling like sneak attack frostcraft and resusitate in now. but raw is still the most likely outcome cause of weapon swapping, there's a bigger incentive to make attack apply to both raw and shells so you don't need as many unique skills and not feel pressured to avoid picking a different weapon.

@@petercottantail7850 I'd honestly prefer it if there were more skills for shelling like sneak attack, in most niches that skill sucks cause you have to hit from behind and the best hit zones are in front, like the head. Each weapons having a couple skills that help its niche, not just stats everything uses, is good for the variety and longevity of the series. It's a shame. Especially when, before the weapojn videos, they talked like they were going to lean more into the unique stuff. It felt like they were accepting the challenge to make less popular weapons fill their niche and stand out, not just reduce those aspects to appeal to the LS majority. A game for everyone is a game for no one. It's not that bad yet and I'm still hyped but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried for later.

I have a question for you to ask the team. Will weapons cont towards set bonuses? They probably won’t comment about it not until it the game gets closer to the release date and you might be able to get an answer if you asked this question.

This is a completely different weapon, feels like it finally stands on its own two feet with a crazy dynamic moveset. Hopefully they manage to avoid the problems of endgame builds becoming degenerate 1-move spam!

with the introduction of shell step, you will basically have sprinting speed the whole time. then combo that with running thrust then use shells to cancel end lag and you have yourself the most mobile weapon in the game, this is something better than blast dash could ever offer. and every time you shell you are able to combo it into running wide sweep, a move that makes you run and lets you combo into wyrmstake or the new wyrmstake fullblast. you'll have to come up with a new excuse for wanting blast dash back cause mobility isn't a reason anymore 🤭

I'm a lance main, and I ALWAYS wanted to enjoy gunlance, but I never liked the slap-lance play style. The new tweaks they've done make me SO excited to play it!
