Honestly the karakuri system is my favorite gimmick in any game I’ve played. I personally main the maul and I use the spring attack at least 10 times a hunt to close gaps, and the stake attack is incredible for slamming flying kemono back into the ground. Don’t even get me started on how fun the fusion karakuri are. Is an enemy charging up a big attack? Hit it with a massive fucking hammer. Is there an attack coming you don’t think you can dodge? Put up a shield wall. It just feels so right and I adore it

I agree. I use the nodachi and the spring is necessary for both us heavy weapon users but the triangle attack coming off the spring charges my entire special bar. Love it

Even with the cannon, which by itself just seems like you wanna get in into laser mode, but in practice some of the harder monsters, either getting your heat up with the fires or the spring and then doing a jump shot off of a 3 box stack is a great way to do dmg. Then using the glider or a jumping shot (which works kinda like the lance’s back hops in MH) and keeping your dodge only for well, actually dodging. I mean… the laser is still great, but not always practical in solo play if you’re constantly dodging cuz some wolf or monkey won’t. Stop. Jumping. Around…

Dude, honest to God, I would wait another year or perhaps even more if it meant a video game had a stable release. I bought the game, I'm playing it despite all the performance problems, and that's the only complaint I have, besides a minor (major to some) performance issue the game is just straight up, unfiltered FUN.

@jcc4543 Monster Hunter fixed the issues along the way, though. In general, games tend to fix games for the most part, before releasing DLC, so that they can draw attention to the DLC without a tainted game reputation.

Playing anything on release is a mistake nearly always, a year or two later and the game is always patched into a better state and usually cost half the price or less in a sale. Also, a year later when the hype surround a game has died down, you can find much better reviews on whether the game is actually worth your time or not.

@@Ocean5ix it released unfinished for most people with normal hardware. Either you have a beefy PC, or you struggle in the second half of the game. Personally I find the game really challenging, which is something I haven't heard before in video's/reviews. Kemono are super agressive, and they are much harder to dodge and counter than in Monster Hunter (world/rise). I will run through an average of 30 heals in 1 hunt if not more, just because I can't be as agressive or will get punished hard for trying to dps (with all weapons). Or alternatvely I am just bad...

I would say the same thing I say to Dark Souls players playing Sekiro for the first time: sprint more. Sprint everywhere. Your stamina only stops from filling when you sprint, it doesn’t actually take stamina. And the slide dodge goes really far Also, in lieu of the of the MH Superman dive get used to placing a spring down instead of panic rolling and using that spring to dodge away, it has crazy s, and gets more as you upgrade it.

I love the game, but I definitely agree with your point on other people's kataguri. I hope they implement an option in the settings that still allows others to place kataguri, but after the hunt all kataguri placed by other hunters will be deleted. That way you can set up the map the way you like it and other people can place structures for one time uses. Other than that I really love this game and have been addicted.

@wolf101con4

@elite reptilian no everyone can build during hunts. The problem with that is the dragon kataturi which are the more permanent ones like forges and camps have a cost system so you can't have too many on the map. Which is a problem because say I hunt with you and place something to help me get to where I need to go for that hunt. It'll stay and drain resource. So I suggest other people can still build dragon kataguri, but they will be deleted after they leave your instance.

I think the story of wild hearts is worth paying attention to. The characters and the social dynamic in Minato is very interesting if you take the time to listen to all the dialog in the side quests and the optional dialog (plain gold arrows). It doesn't push the story on you after the beginning so you can skip on through to get to the hunts, which is nice design for those that don't care, but if you like stories like I do you have to go find it, and I think it is worth your time.

The nice thing about the skills in the weapons is that you never end up with skill for a weapon you’re not using, and thus “wasting” space. Also, if you think the hand cannon is cheesy, try the bow. Glider shot > unload charge volley > repeat. Fun way to play the cannon against monsters like the monkey or deathstalker if you (like I did) have a hard time finding time to charge the laser is just fire 2 shots off of a spring jump, then expel the heat off of a 3 box-stack jump attack. Not as much burst dmg as the laser, but higher consistent dmg than just shooting and never getting a laser cuz some wolf won’t stop jumping around 😤… oh, and one more thing I noticed, the jump shot fires you back a ton and uses no heat, so it’s a really useful back step similar to the lance’s back hops. Way more mobile than its rolls, that for certain. Speaking of destroying karakuri from the map, you can already upgrade dragon pits from the map once you find them, so it wouldn’t be hard to do.

I think the issue people have with the designs of the kemonos is that they're not that memorable, if you look at them, they're not significantly different from a rather generic "big animal with stuff around it" Even if they're meant to be "just animals with magical stuff" and they don't necessarily look bad, they could have a more unique and memorable design as I would not run out to buy merchandise from these monsters the way I do with the MH ones
@Nomadestra
@Nomadestra Жыл бұрын
The monsters being more in tune with real world animals makes a lot of them more memorable in my opinion. One of the things the genre was lacking before this was damn near all the monsters are just pure fantasy shit. The fact that you're fighting an actual giant porkypine, chicken, an ice wolf, a poisonous crow, and giant badger that uses sniff attacks to pull you in is great. Wild Heart's designs are more grounded than monster hunters and that alone makes it unique. I can't tell you how many times in MHW where I thought the dev team just picked up a random fantasy novel and picked out some hard to pronounce monster and put it in the game.

I've definitely felt the performance hits on PS5, especially during multiplayer where things basically turn into a nightmare of slow motion and animation snapping. Aside from the issues though I really am enjoying this game. The weapons feel unique and insanely satisfying to use, Claw Blade in particular is my favorite but everything else doesn't trail too far behind apart from the Umbrella maybe, and the game really hammers home how focused it is on the actual combat portion and I'm loving it for that. Hoping to find some form of transmog system waiting for me later down the road though since a lot of armors do look a bit goofy.

I haven't tried it after the patch yet, but I love love loved the hunting I was able to do prior. It's clearly not the best game of all time, but I can see myself sinking dozens of hours into this. I have the PS5 version and am in chapter 3. I have had no noticeable performance issues on PS5. I have seen 1 bug: I think I broke a fumebeak's AI with a big burst attack from the bow as it spent the rest of the mission just repeatedly flinching and no longer attacking. Otherwise it's been great. Easily exceeded my expectations. Not sure about longevity as I don't think there will be multiple builds for each weapon that changes gameplay style. Seems like a good start to a franchise.

It's crazy and somehow unexpected how Karakuri turns this game into a mix of 2 of my favorite games of all time, Monster Hunter and Death Strading. There are only two games that I remember that you can build stuff like a zip line network to optimize traversal. DS and WH. As for weapon movesets.. I mean people either forget or haven't played MH before World but it took a bit more than 10 years of expertise for MH to add depth to their weapons. Until 4 Ultimate the weapons had actually less depth than Wild Hearts. Which to me is not a problem, since the more moves they add the more MH turns into Devil May Cry. I'm seeing a lot of "standard neutral takes" like "yea it's a good foundation/base for a new franchise", but honestly? It's already a very good hunting game. They learned from MH and executed very well (except for performance) to the point of leap frogging every other hunting game not called MH in the market... and I played A LOT of them. God Eater, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice, Dauntless, Toukiden (same devs as WH), Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2 and probably a few more I'm forgetting. Soul Sacrifice is the best of the bunch but it distanciates itself from MH too much to overtake WH.

One point here I absolutely disagree with: You need to use karakuri. It isn't optional past low rank. Against the low rank monsters (chapters 1-2) sure you can play relatively well without them (even there I'd argue that's a horrible idea), but the higher you go the faster, more ferocious, and just generally untenable the monsters get and not in the same way Monster Hunter does things. Some of these creatures just outright do not stop attacking, _ever,_ and will chain attack after attack after attack. The only way to deal with them is forcing openings with karakuri either by using mobility to weave around them and attack them from positions they can't deal with or outright immobilizing them with the various traps. If you don't use the karakuri, you not just playing suboptimally, you're essentially shooting yourself in the foot. It'd be like trying not to use the Wire Bugs in Rise. The game is balanced from the ground up assuming you're going to use them and if you don't you _will_ be punished for it.

Yeah, I absolutely agree the game is well worth it. I've gone out of my way to play every monsters hunter "clones" to the point of being a Dauntless alpha backer, and not a single one of them come close to being as great as wild hearts is. And when it comes to maps, I don't think any monster hunter games come close to as great as those in wild hearts. Of course, there's many factors to consider each games doing some things better than others at times but wild hearts shouldn't be dismissed. Sure they fit the theme but they lack the same kind of personality or intrigue, and it's not cause they're not fantastical beast like a zinogre or something. But moreso they're too busy or underdeveloped in my opinion. Where as something like sif in dark souls is far more memorable and interesting and it's just a giant wolf. Honestly, after playing 50+ hours there’s a lot of flaws I wasn’t expecting in the game. High Rank you get to fight THREE new monsters that aren’t subspecies (also some monsters you previously got to fight you just, can’t fight in high rank? Which is dumb?), which is extremely disappointing. The second thing that is extremely disappointing is that they just, simply didn’t make unique armors for the monsters. Over half the armors that aren’t the local armors (which are not good skill wise) are armors combined between two monsters. This includes subspecies, which is also extremely disappointing. Paired with the fact that they removed some of the monsters in high rank that had their own unique monsters, it’s very frustrating to me and makes grinding in general feel VERY unrewarding. (Doesn’t help that the high rank equivalent of armors are just color changed and nothing else) I also feel this way with the weapons. I haven’t looked into some of the weapons, but I also have zero motivation to grind for them as well considering after a certain point you don’t get any new weapon designs and you need specific part break rewards x5 for them; meaning if your unlucky and don’t break that part, you have to fight it at least 5 times. That wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that that high rank monsters didn’t only have maybe two new moves and are completely predictable after 1-2 fights (which you’ll do in low rank). That’s a more personal nitpick though because plenty of people like grinding. I typically do as well, considering I have 800+ hours in both MHworld and MHrise. I also absolutely HATE the fact that they did not think about how battle affects the terrain your fighting on. During the Ameratsu fight, the back area with the broken stuff over it you CANNOT build on. Meaning if you fight over there because she will fly over there, you cannot defend yourself with fusion karakuri at all. This also happens often during fights on the main maps as well, your not aloud to place karakuri over stupid environmental crap like sticks that are literally only there to make the map look more immersive. This has gotten me killed a multitude of times considering karakuri is essential for fighting in this game. (Oh also the camera is god awful and the hitboxes for some of the monsters, mainly Tusk, is bad) There’s also some QoL changes I have no idea why they never included to begin with, mainly a wishlist for the armor and weapons. That’s my main complaints though, the game in high rank feels very unrewarding and I feel like I have no reason to continue grinding and playing, the only thing I’m continuing on for is to fight those new three new monsters and see their armor (because in highly doubt their weapon will look nice unfortunately). The game feels good to play otherwise, I like the weapon tree skills, the human-kemono path armors, the way karakuri is integrated into the game and the map design is nice despite it being unoptimized even on console, but the game is absolutely not worth 70$. I was lucky and split the game and got it for 40$. Not sure if I’d even say it’s worth more then that considering we both can agree the story is also bad. It feels to me like how people said base rise was before title updates because outside of very nice map updates, there are zero changes that are worth noting in high rank and for a game charging more then the standard for games it’s kind of ridiculous in my opinion. I’d like to see how you feel progressing, because chapter three is where the game has become a slog and I’m sick of fighting the same monster over and over again. but I am also playing MP with my partner and playing a weaker weapon and your able to cheese things with the hand canon. Anyway, sorry for the long ass comment, I was talking to my partner about this yesterday but to me the game DOES feel unfinished and I’m kind of sad I got into it so early because it means I have to wait for possible good content updates to flesh it out. After I finish the story I’m not sure if I’ll even bother to pick it up again which is…not good considering again, it’s 70$ and monster hunting games are supposed to make you feel good about fighting monsters and as of end-ish of chapter three it’s really starting to not .
@darenh355
@darenh355 Жыл бұрын
The game start to finish is alright. Gameplay is mighty fun. All weapons are unique and give you that anime power feels while still grounding the weapon. Karakuri changes your gameplay quite a bit offering you different ways to approach monsters with each person running different karakuri set ups for different combos. Monsters do get a bit easy with multiplayer hunts cause everyone just spams karakiri that locks kemonos in place so basically damage sponges. Story is a bit bare bones with it feeling a bit rushed near the end, a bit anticlimactic if you will. Dont trust me too much on story cause me and my friends just skimmed through the dialogue while somewhat getting the gist of what happens. Grinding is same old grinding, I say its even more rough than monster hunter cause you need parts from every single creature to make armor and weapons so you truly do feel like a monster hunter using parts from all kinds of animals to make your armory. I kinda like that aspect. Main real issue is optimization, the state the game released in and how much this game cost. $70 is way too much for a game to be released in this sorry state. My pc set up is pretty much whats reccomended, but even my friends with higher end pc's were having issues. Constant stuttering, crashes, save issues when in multiplayer, etc. $70 game shouldn't be running like complete doodoo. Its also asking a lot for players to wait 1 week for a patch that didn't fix everything. And EA launcher isn't helping this situation as well. I think console side is pretty alright. My lil bro with the ps5 didnt have much issues, but this just him. All in all, I had a fun and annoying experience with this game. The game is a fun alternative to monster hunter and is good filler if your waiting for a mainline monster hunter game. It does suck that EA is in charge of this game,, but i have faith that the devs can turn things around. I'd recommend if people want to play this game to wait for a discount, wait for the issues to be fixed, or if you really don't give a damn and just wanna hunt monster then go ahead and buy it cause its really fun when it's working properly. But do try to wait for a discount

I loved the locale, monsters, and how the game looked overall as well, but the technical issues are what killed it for me and I refunded the game in the end The only way I could play this game was on my steam deck, I couldn't even get it to launch on windows(Ryzen 9 3900X + 5700XT) even after they pushed out the launch fix patch. If it did allow me to play on windows, I would have waited for a patch while streaming it to my steam deck just like I did with Dead Space when it first launched, but it also got to the point where it kept crashing while trying to launch the game on my steam deck and because they tied launching the game to the ea play app, it eventually locked me out from playing it(Your account has accessed this game too many times error). One major issue with Wild Hearts (as someone who's finished the game and does end game content) is that the build diversity is abysmal. If you play any weapon, you will have anywhere from 1 to 2 meta options that will blow any other "build" for that weapon out of the water. Even worse is that there's a very clear weapon tier list where some weapons just make the game way easier than others. I'm looking at you Blue Oni Maul- 99.9% of all maul players use it and there's no reason to use any other- and the maul isn't the only weapon with that "best weapon choice" issue. It really makes you feel uninterested when you post your finished build and 10 sweaty meta lords reply to it on the discord about how its not optimal.
