@brushfyr Funny thing is whatever I think of bad fart jokes in kids movies I think of that fake movie Jack Black's character was doing in tropic thunder that was like the klumps in the nutty professor (except obviously all the characters were played by Jack Black) I think it was the phats or something like that. But it basically perfectly parodied terrible children's movies with tons of bad fart jokes and just lazy writing. I miss the days when movies didn't fall back into the lazy, "look at the CGI special effects" approach. This movie by the way supposedly cost around 170 million dollars, just let that sink in.

I think that any actor should have a personal list of "dont's". And the number 1 rule to sign up for ANY kind of comedy should be: If the script includes any kind of joke that involves farts, anus, burping, vomit, excrement or similar 5 year old scatological humor, to provoke laughter in the audience, that script must be burnt immediatelly. If I pay the equivalent to 10 USD for a movie ticket, and I see a butt joke, I know I paid around 25 cents for that butt joke. It's the worst insult to an audience.

Chris;is Its this crazy thing called world building, you see a fictional world needs rules so that we can get invested and know what’s at stake. Lots of fictional movies and tv shows like to take place in the past and guess what, the characters don’t pull out a smartphones just because it’s fiction. All they had to do was copy the manner of speaking of that time, or give us better world building.

There are only four things that I tolerated in this movie: 1. The CGI on the animals is actually REALLY good. They made them look real but still gave them some personality through their expressions and mannerisms. Take notes, Lion King 2019. 2. Michael Sheen as Mudfly. He knew it was supposed to be a kids' movie and decided to act with the subtlety of a Saturday morning cartoon bad guy and it worked. 3. The animated intro looked STUNNING. One minute of it was NOT enough. 4. Ralph Fiennes as the tiger. I want a prequel about his mommy issues, please.

On the note of the “racist dog”: my family once had a dog that had been a stray and she barked at people with certain traits. My dad would bark at my dad when he came into the house when he had a baseball cap and sunglasses on and he’d take them off and say “Maddie it’s me!”. I don’t remember if he had a slight tan or not. Same thing happened to a friend of ours who happens to be African American and she barked at him too. But it was a recurring pattern so we think maybe we had been hurt by someone who had dark skin with a hat and sunglasses cus she’d get scared around people with any or a mix of those traits.

Typos aside, this is fairly common with animals. Whereas humans have the ability to realize that someone doing something wrong isn't representative of a whole group of people, animals have a harder time doing so. I was actually optimistic about this movie. I actually like the first trailer for his touching ambiance and the adventure with heart aspect that cam from it, especially with RDJ who I was hoping to see him in more project than the Marvel ones. But holly shit, it's one of the worst movie of the year. It's clear from the horrible dubbing and editing that it was totally massacre in post prod to transform this character driven story to a worst comedy than the Eddie Murphy one, it was sooo annoying the way they put joke EVERYWHERE ! It's was almost a really bad riftrax ! Even the dragon's butt thing, revisiting this disaster, I remark something strange. The Bagpipes Dolittle put from the dragon's butt, by the way the texture are, the way RDJ touch it but not really or even the shot who don't seems to concentrate on it... it's CGI ! Why ? Do they tried to replace something with this fake Bagpipes put in the editing room ? And a friend suggested that it was maybe an Egg, that would explain the suffering of the dragon, seeing lizard can have complication and even dying in the process of having an egg. So that would mean they change a birth scene to a anal probing scene for Joke... that the perfect resume of this disaster.

The most concise way I can describe it is that it felt like watching a sequel to a movie that already had a neat ending. *Spoilers* Everything in the movie felt rushed to me and I think it would've been better if the boy wasn't in the movie. He barely had any real plot relevance (everything he did was something the mama bird did better) honestly I wish they'd made the girl important. She could've badgered Dolittle into going with her or outsmarted him in some way to get him to the palace and then made him agree to let her go with him or have her sneak onto the boat and have her want to understand the animals more as she sees how he connects with them. Then as he notices her trying to communicate he could teach her some of their language and they could develop their friendship that way. I feel like it wasn't at all developed with the boy and I don't like how he almost immediately learned how to talk to animals. By the end Dolittle could understand that people can develop that same kindness towards animals that she showed and that thought spurred him to open the doors. That would've made the action more meaningful in my opinion since it felt like he reopened on a whim for no real reason. Also the girl won't be his apprentice she'll just be an occasional recurring visitor that carries on his teachings at the palace when she returns. At the end they can bring in the kid and have him run towards the door only to look down at the hurt bird in his satchel after reading the sign and then look back up with a smile as sequel bait. Not gonna happen but regardless this would've been my dream version of the movie.

I told my sister that this felt like watching Ella Enchanted. It's cheesy with modern jokes and if you're under ten it's great and comical. Then I went on to say the tweaks I'd do for the story without changing much of anything. She said "It's for kids, though" which ain't an excuse in my book, so here! First, leave out the wife's death in the introduction. In fact, you could probably not mention the wife at all in the introduction! The reason being that we 1. wonder why Dolittle ended up cutting himself off from society when everything seemed fine, given that we were directly told only about the magnificence and success of this man (maybe even say he mysteriously shut himself away if the narrator wasn't giving Polly's perspective); and 2. end up just as surprised as (I forget his name) the apprentice kid when he finds out that the journal belonged to the doctor's wife. We would've figured out ourselves why Dolittle ended up where he was when we first see him in his house. Hell, you can even still leave in the bit where Dolittle remembers his wife while on the ship, and the audience can go "ooh, was that a girlfriend/wife/lover that he misses?" Kids aren't stupid; they can connect dots when a story's written well. Secondly..... If you're gong to tell me this foreign city is made up of bandits and thieves.... how about ya friggin' _show me_ that? None of the locals besides the soldiers ever bother the cast. There's no evidence of pickpocketing, there's no one trying to mug them, no one's swindling, no one's having a street fight in the background-This is a bright, sunny location with smiling faces outside of the palace walls, just going about their day in the market. The only savagery shown is by the spiteful king, not his everyday Jills and Johns. If I were more of a woke Twitter user, I'd take this as an offensive perception of cultures outside Western ones, calling them all barbaric pirates when there's absolutely no hint of that given. [Though considering Twitter, that's a trap no matter how you go about it.] In conclusion, the writers have failed the important rule of "show, don't tell."

I grew up watching the 1967 Doctor Dolittle so that holds a special place in my heart. I was excited for this, and as much as RDJ and the rest of the cast lit up the screen, you can't screen presence your way through a bad script.

I watched this a little over a week ago on my computer with headphones and whenever rdj was talking I could feel him exhaling in my ears because it felt like he was standing right next to me. I also noticed that on a scene on the boat, I heard him talking but his lips weren't moving. I wanted to go watch this movie to theatres but after all the reviews I watched, more did it seem to me that I would be wasting money and time. Also, I had to take BREAKS for this movie and never have I ever had that happen when watching a movie

I have a racist dog, and it's really unfortunate. We found him when he was 2, so we don't know his history before we got him. We found out by taking him to a public event and he did a back-flip and screamed as he tried to get away from a black couple who was walking towards us... That was horribly awkward. :(

I just saw it and everyone was just sitting there at the end hoping that there would be some explanation for the absolutely bonkers ending (not in a good way) but alas there was none. I know it's supposed to be based on a book or whatever but it's done in such a bizarre way that explains nothing and you've just gotta see it to truly understand how utterly pointless the whole thing was

Sounds like a tragic waste of talent. I always felt like Dr. Doolittle would make for a great fantastical slice of life story. I mean, a doctor who can talk to animals is the perfect setup for a slice of life, maybe he would work at a zoo or something. It would be a character-driven story, and the interactions between Dolittle's family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances alongside the animals with the doctor in between could be really fun!

But as per usual... Someone said: “I assume you’re gonna be making a video about Dr. Dolittle because like heh I heard it’s really bad.” 😌 And I’m like, “No I know it’s gonna be really bad that’s why I’m not gonna watch it.” 🙄 And they’re like, “No like, it’s *really* bad...” 😔 And then in my head I’m like, “Well how bad _is it_ ?” 🤔 I would’ve gone to see Dolittle... under the same disbelief it could be any worse than cats - because cats is a definite ass thing - and to find out just how bad it could get, but Amanda took a hit for people like me, and now I don’t have to watch it to answer all the questions I had. Thanks again

Actually the first recorded use of the phrase "Snitches get stiches" is from 1859 in Ulster, Ireland (there was an infamously rough prison in that region at the time). So it would have been perfectly realistic to have that line in the 1920s. And I just made all that up.

It is certainly up to opinion and debate how narratively compelling a constipated dragon is, but for whatever it's worth, my partner is a veterinarian, and veterinarians spend a sizeable amount of time reaching into animal's behinds to treat various problems. So in fact it's fairly realistic (dragon and talking to animals notwithstanding) that an animal doctor would be assisting a sick animal that way.

As soon as you said how RDJ anally probed a Dragon with a leek and all of the other things that happened in pre production it honestly reminds me of the original Doctor Dolittle movie from the 70s. That movie was also the production from hell in many ways. Rex Harrison (Dr.Dolittle) was difficult to work with and they had a lot of problems with the animals especially the Giraffes. Apparently 1 died on set and production stopped for a few days because it was reported that “The Giraffe stepped on it’s own cock!”.

I kinda liked the movie, made me feel nostalgic for the one from...god...the 70's? hell...maybe older had a giant snail and a moth and all that. It felt like the same vibe of this movie, and that this one was trying to go more off of that vein instead of the newer Doolittle movies. It could've been better, but I felt like a kid again and I'm 30 so...that makes me feel ancient lol

So here in South Africa there's a fairly famous story of an exchange of letters between CJ Langenhoven (pretty famous poet) and a critic. Apparently Langenhoven got a bad review, and wrote a letter that basically boiled down to 'if you can't do it, you can't criticize it'. In return, the critic wrote (translating here) "I can't lay an egg either, but I can definitely smell if it's rotten'. I love Langenhoven because he was the master of sass, but that was a pretty sick burn too :D anyway just thought I'd share that story with you.

One thing about the Cats Review is this: A lot of the critics (rightfully) bashing on the movie have never seen a full production of cats the musical onstage while having an open mind, and a lot of critics of the movie have been bashing on/hating on the musical itself too in their breakdown of the movie, and as a fan of the actual musical who was heartbroken by the announcement of the movie and then the utter fiasco that it was, it is really annoying to constantly be treated like a freak for liking the musical that unfortunately gave way to the birth of the monstrocity that is the movie. I didnt watch Amanda's cats review video, but im wondering if thats sort of where the person mentioned at the beginning of this one is coming from. They were most likely still being a dick though, as ive found defenders of the cats movie to be almost deranged and super agressive. a lot of them arent even og cats fans. its weird.
