I’ve been trying to install that spring on the truck, looks like it was a lot easier off the truck so I’ll be pulling it tomorrow

Oh man is it ever a pain, even installing it off truck and then reinstalling on truck it’s not easy at all because it’s so tough to push the plunger in. I usually use a longer bolt from the intake in one hole inorder to get the lift pump lined up, and then use progressively shorter bolts until it’s all snugged up. Not fun, hopefully you got er all together by now!

It’s an awesome world that you’ll either wonder why the heck you didn’t get a 12 valve sooner, or wonder what fell upon you to get one in the first place 🤣 hopefully your experience with them is great! They’ve never done me wrong

I would recommend to send your camshaft out and all the journals I would have diamond light coating on it, including the lobe that drives the lift pump and also take your lift pump the plunger the part that runs up against the cam and I guess it’s the plunger anyway and have that diamond light coated I think that would be a good thing

When you remove the pressure relief valve and replace with the bolt and cut the head off you dont seal that with anything? Or maybe i missed something 😆 like usual

Where would I get another plunger? Would I have to buy a whole lift pump? Can I get on Amazon?

I don’t think you can get just a replacement plunger, usually I source my lift pumps on Rockauto so I’d just get a whole new lift pump

Where do you find the larger appropriate size plunger/piston? (30mm)

I think it’s just luck of the draw, you may have better luck with a higher quality brand lift pump than a cheap one as far as finding the 30mm plunger goes (like a carter pump)

I have been told that the Carter pump is not available & that Cummins sells you a Chinese pump as a replacement. I would like to replace the mounting bolts with a stud kit.

That is true I was having problems with about four lifts pumps I went through through O'Reilly's and also one through AutoZone they were all similar alike Chinese brand the original one was made in Sweden or Switzerland I believe it was on the truck that was OEM I could not find the original one lower parts to rebuild it I was going to set up a fass fuel system but it was going to set me back about 8 to 900 so I left it alone and wind up getting lucky with the last one I got through O'Reilly's and it's been working ever since there's really not that much difference one difference compared to the OEM that was on this truck originally and never was changed from 1996 was the part that was made in Switzerland it was o e was the plastic on top of where the plunger is that you pump with your finger was made out of aluminum where are all the aftermarket ones even the ones from Cummins are all Chinese Japanese made knockoffs made with plastic

No also would you have to change injectors when you do this hence the injector is going to be getting a lot more fuel through the spray nozzle than what it is supposed to be getting and is the delivery valves in a p7100 pump have to also be changed to keep up with a pumping capacity to a stock OEM setup or can you leave them two things OEM and just drill the holes and this one will work fine the way that you're doing it

To be honest, I’ve never touched a VE engine. I’ve had first gens, but I just left them as is so my experience in hotrodding them is limited at the moment. I am actively looking for a nice D250 or W250 single cab for a parts runner daily tho, so expect something in the future!

The lift pump for the VE is pretty dinky. I'm actually gonna swap mine out for that LPHV pump. Nice video brother.

Typically for high performance cams people will get a DLC coating on the lifter tappets, so something similar to what you describe could be to DLC coat the lift pump pushrod. That said, I’ve never heard or had issues with the higher lift pump spring pressure hurting the camshaft
