to the point about wanting to fight while cold: i can only speak for military exercises in the cold but yes, action means warmth. you move, you sweat, then you do something stationary, wet clothes get cold af and you hope for an ambush or march or anything. even if you are able to change clothes, now you are naked and your fresh clothes need to warm up, then you get action, you sweat and all repeats. staying warm is difficult

@@sebastianb.3978 The MG is to defend against large numbers of infantry, like on beaches of D-Day with the MG-42s or its to keep your enemies heads down so your squadmates can move around and flank or get a better field of fire/sector of fire. No, they're not "spraying and praying". They're shooting at people who move or think they can move, with a large volley of fire. If you're hiding in cover you are not shooting. If you are not shooting, you are easier to out-flank or out-move your opponent, and therefore 'easier' to kill or take control of a firefight situation. This is why you see in many movies or video games, the MG is put into a window or up on a hill, etc into a non-moving position (not always) to provide cover fire while everyone else moves around elsewhere.

My personal problem, which as you mentioned, is the abrupt tone shifts You can't have it both ways of "gritty autenticity" and "over the top set pieces that would make michael bay blush" Either do one, or the other, and do them well. Trying to do both more often than not ends up with a very incoherent feel to the story. That's why COD4 sticks out, that's why COD2 sticks out (perhaps a little different, as those are almost vignette stories following characters around the conflict) Sales be damned, let the authenticity be onscreen. Don't shy away Or just let it be a true arcade shooter

I have trained in exercises in -40 c below, which is apparently the same in Fahrenheit. Cold environments are possibly the worst type to be in. You always have to survive the cold, there’s no reprieve. Heat can do that too, but it cools slightly at night. In the winter, nights just get colder. To say it’s demoralizing is an understatement. Keeping in mind I was training with modern 21st century equipment and clothing. I couldn’t imagine how cold men were in WW2 in trenches. I’d march in circles to get my blood pumping, pushing through knee deep snow to make myself warm. Surprisingly effective. A hot meal never tasted so good. I can easily imagine them wishing for a fight just to get warm or just distract them from the cold. Even for a minute.

2nd comment, I didn’t serve in the cold but I did play an outdoor hockey game in the middle of a Michigan winter while it was snowing, you’re the coldest sitting on the bench just waiting, constantly shaking the water bottles so they don’t freeze up, and being thankful when it’s your shift. It’s not serving in an active warzone but it is doing an intense ass workout outside where there are still real dangers from the weather.

I’ve done some airsoft LARPing in the snow years ago. When you’re fighting, you will feel the cold, especially when you get snow on your back and it starts to melt. But when the sun goes down and the temperature plummets, it will bite your bones and cut into you in ways you can’t imagine. I remember huddling around an oil drum fire with about 20 other LARPers because we were cold in spite of some of us wearing cold weather gear. Not exactly like serving, but a couple of vets that were with us told us that the feeling was similar.

So, fighting in the cold - ive been in the canadian army for 14 years. I havent fought an actual conflict in cold weather but ive sat in enough entrenchments at -40 that i can share some insight. The biggest issue with warmth through physical activity like fighting or marching with snowshoes is making sure you dont sweat. Its a bit of a juggling act to manage your layers of clothing according to conditions. Once your base layer of clothes gets wet you need to change it or risk hypothermia and becoming a casualty. We have good gear to manage this, like bib overalls that zip all the way down the outside of your legs to open up and allow heat out, but the best way to stay warm in something resembling combat conditions is either in your tent with the coleman stove running or barring that in your sleeping bags at your fighting position. If you have to work on earthworks or something like that you need to work at a slower pace than normal and stay hydrated. If you have any other questions im happy to answer what i can

23:44, currently serving in the northcountry (US), can comfortably say, there have been many occasions when it is painfully cold, I just want to get moving again to feel my toes. the difficult thing to understand is that in the military, you are essentially cold on purpose. You are instructed to wear just enough to keep you from freezing to death. If you wear too much and end up getting sweaty, by the time you settle down, you are having some real problems. It doesn't even need to be THAT cold. we had plenty of rainy cold days that made me want to end it all.

21:37 I love how there is RECORDED EVIDENCE that soldiers in WW2 did dive into rooms in CQB scenarios. The general idea being you toss a grenade in, wait for it to bang, then dive in. If the enemy is dead, they’re dead. If they’re alive, the smoke from the grenade is blocking their view and choking them, and you are on the ground below it. It’s actually really smart. But I digress, soldiers did slide and dive in WW2

Can confirm, warfare and being hunted in the snow isn't bad with modern cold-gear, but even with the new stuff one slip in a puddle and your feet are fucked. I'd like to say a bit of anxiety/adrenaline/movement would warm us up a bit, but it never really did. The moment you stood still the chill came back. We were mostly itching for movement because it was something to do aside from sit there and shiver lmao

Please do the Brothers in Arms series. I don’t know or have heard about a game with that style of gameplay, and also gives you a grittier story. Plus it shows something not often seen in WWII shooters, the Allies losing and retreating.

In terms of WW2 games, specifically COD games, there is something that I feel is missing these days that was done pretty well with the first COD and some others: Shellshock. In the first game, there’s grenades, artillery, explosions from vehicles, machine guns, and more. And it is all very loud, especially when compared to the later games. You can barely here your platoon and CO.

I want you to let you know, that intro song is known as "A Brotherhood of Heroes" and to me, i think that it perfectly represents how terrifying WWII was and brings honor to the fallen soldiers. Most perfect 2 minutes and 56 seconds ever made. And the zombies, perfect. The campaign nailed the environments of all the famous battles, from D-Day, to the Rhine, absolutely amazing. Easily the best game of 2017 in my opinion. LOVE IT!! P.S. Waltuh. Put the thermite away waltuh.

The saying goes "5 shermans for one cat" meaning that in order to take out a tiger tank youd need 5 shermans or one platoon and the tiger was a very rare beast to find in aestern europe but still was still the most terrifying thing with tracks and a eunning motor for a western tanker
@calebbarnhouse496
@calebbarnhouse496 Жыл бұрын
The saying is also wrong, 5 Sherman's fought 1 cat because Sherman's weren't gonna be messing around in numbers fewer than that for no good reason, so when they fought they always had a numbers advantage

Im a massive gun guy and one of the first things that made me happy in this game was how punchy the M1 garand feel’s compared to some older cods considering 30-06 is a pretty big bullet. The garand was a pea shooter in WAW.

Well, you picked a good one. You should totally go back and play some of the classics like black ops two that was my first one but it’s but I think World War II is probably the best one and the only reason black ops two is so good is for nostalgia reasons like the story was reasonably good, but World War II story is better

*WW2 Best COD since the GOAT BO2* its only COD that you can play all day and have fun a simple straightforward COD & FPS shooter. *It's literally BO2 but in a WW2 era* the Dev got the balance, counters, movement, speed just right especially after the Overhaul update and it has the 2nd best weapon variety behind BO2. *The Unsung Hero COD* saved the franchise for me. Been loyal since launch 4 years playing consistently. No other COD has been good since. Best Gun: *The Austen* it's the *WW2 Peackeeper* *"No Mission too Difficult, No Sacrifice too Great! Ive watched and played a lot of WW2 content over the years. The way I see it, if they made an effort to justice to the stories, people, lives lost and absolute horrors, they get a win in my book. Thinking about the nuances and small details gotten wrong defeats the purpose for me personally. For me, everytime I watch something, or play something to do with WW2, I probably spend just as much time pausing it and looking up stories, videos and seeing if they got it right. It gives me an opportunity to have a moment or thing in wars sparked and the desire to find out the truth about it. Ive learned so much from looking things up to see what actually happened, who these people actually were, learning names and moments along the way. Thats where the value lies for me. These games are the closest well come to actually experiencing WW2. I think they did a damn good job, you can tell they rode the line of "its a game and its meant to be fun" and "we have to do this justice".
