Something you didn’t catch - Astrid wears a “headband” (can’t remember the correct name for it) throughout the three films. This headband in Viking culture symbolized a girls virginity, to be passed down after she marries. Her daughter is then wearing that headband in the final scene where her children are shown. SO much attention to detail!

Is no one really gonna talk about Hiccup and Astrid? They are the epitome of a healthy relationship. They're realistic (most relationship starts with a crush) and not your cliche love at first sight couple They're a modern couple that we all can relate to They're both equals and no one is controlling the other They push each other to be better individuals They don't let their relationship get in the way of important things (ie. Work, friends,family, Toothless) They're one of the rare instances of an animated couple having a complete development arc. (Oh my god Hiccstrid babies!!) And I really appreciate how Astrid wasn't made into a "just the main character's girlfriend" like some movies. THW really shows how intimate and loving their relationship is. Astrid is Hiccup's voice of reason and his number one supporter. He depends on her just like how she depends on him. When the villagers protested against him, she had his back. When he was lost without Toothless, she pulled him back and made him realise his true worthiness. She understood him and knew his flaws and insecurities, but remained loyal by his side. Their relationship wasn't just pure romance,it was mutual partnership filled with love and understanding. Heck, they only kissed properly in the third movie during their wedding. And don't get me started on the relationship advices I learned from these two

They're also great because, in a lot of movies with sequels where the "main couple" gets together at the end of the film, the next movie will start with their relationship on the ropes (either that, or they broke up off-screen between movies for reasons that may or may not be explained) in order to try and re-enact their "love story" because the couple being in a stable, long-term relationship apparently diminishes their entertainment value as a potential B-Plot. Then in movies where they don't do that, there's usually some sort of difference of opinion that pits the couple at odds enough to either result in an impermanent break-up (they'll be back together by the end of the film) or at the very least some heavy cold shoulder-ing. The thing that's great about Hiccup and Astrid is that, even when they don't agree on something, they still respect one another and their opinion and go to lengths to talk it through. There's never a moment where they're yelling or demeaning the other - just pure respect and a genuine desire to hear the other out and see their point of view. It's honestly one of the best, most healthy relationships I've ever seen of a couple through multiple films in a franchise, and it makes me really happy to see it in a movie that's catered to a younger audience.

He's had Hiccup helping him fly for over a year at this point, so he'd be a little out of practice, not to mention that he can't feel the new prosthetic tail like he could his natural tail. So he's a little clunky and has to flap his wings a lot at first, but then it comes back to him easily since he's been flying for most of his life. What I thought was amazing was how Grimmel is literally a version of Hiccup if he had given into the urge of killing Toothless in the first movie. I think Grimmel mentions it in the movie himself that he was scrawny unlike most vikings and realized his destiny after his first kill, which was a nightfury. He also depends on building things instead of physical strength much like Hiccup. He literally IS Hiccup. Hiccup isn't facing a crazy psychopath when he first confronts Grimmel in his hut, he is looking at an alternate version of himself. That's why I think he was such a poetically perfect villain for the final movie.

@TheMuseAphelion5 жыл бұрын
For me, it drove home the fact Toothless is the last of his kind and how alone that made him. All the other species have exemplars to learn from to use their talents, to court, etc... Hiccup and he became so close specifically because he had no one to truly bond with among his kind. He never had a friend till then. Add to that, he had been oppressed by a terrifying Alpha (The Red Death) One could say he didn't ever know how to be a complete dragon until he met Hiccup, Valka, and "Liry". Each one completed a piece for him and when he was finally whole, he could take his place as an adult and start a family. (I kinda, might have, screamed with joy when I saw the wee furies)

When Hiccups kids had their hands out, Toothless has a slight pause like in the first movie. If you don’t know, that pause in the first movie was a animation error that worked in its favour. Dreamworks saw that and used it again.

I loved Astrid's "that's a king" line because it doesn't just apply to Toothless. Hiccup is constantly doing what's best for the people of Berk and in this movie he does what's best for the dragons of Berk as well. He gives up, as you said, one of the loves of his life, to keep Toothless and the other dragons safe. And that's what a good king does.

Also, on the subject of her design, a lot of people brought up that her being white wouldn't help her camouflage as a nocturnal species, but in the hidden world everything glows so being white and sparkly would help you camouflage because it would be easier to reflect all of that glowing light making yourself harder to see. They use to represent how tamed/wild an animal is. Through the three films. When the alpha took control of 5e dragons in two, their pupils thinned a lot. Liry’s pupils are thinner than toothless’s, and in the end scene, toothless has thin pupils, meaning he is wild again, until he recognizes hiccup, and they turn wide, as he regains his “tamed” part

I think you missed something in that scene where Hiccup and Grimmel are falling that I think is pretty damn neat and symbolic. Hiccup and Grimmel, both so similar yet so different, are falling to their deaths. (One because of Self Sacrifice, the other by force) And as they fight while falling in slow motion, you see Grimmel tearing off Hiccup's wings, before the Liry comes in to save him, while Grimmel dies. I thought that was a beautiful moment of symbolism. Even if Grimmel lost, he managed to hurt them all enough to take his wings (Toothless) away from him. To force Hiccup to tell the dragons to go into hiding. I got teary eyed when watching that scene and realising what it really meant.

@Tinaf6535 жыл бұрын
Stickpaw SOS Actually the Night Lights featured may not be the first in existence... Hiccup and family meet them ten years after the film’s events, it could be possible Toothless and Liry had offspring already which were already grown, or at least juveniles... 😃

and the last 3 night-light furies because they are hybrids and hybrids can't breed...
@wanderinwolf38044 жыл бұрын
@@Coal_XVII That may be true for some animals in our world, but we are not entirely sure if that would be the same for dragons. Also, they could just be of the same genus and have the same number of chromosomes. Taking on how closely Toothless and Liry are in body style, abilities, ect the most likely scenario is that they are NOT infertile. Just like with literally all species in the genus Canis (dogs) can interbreed and produce fertile offspring. Though this trait isn't possessed by all genera, like with the genus Felidae. Most Felidae species are actually infertile with each other.

If you pay attention, at the end of the movie when Toothless realizes it's Hiccup, Toothless gives a few excited hops before jumping onto Hiccup. It's frigin adorable and I love it.

As someone who read the entire book series the ending to 3 was a pleasant surprise. It was the one thing when I watched this movie I thought "they won't do that, they haven't got the guts". The ending in the books is honestly even darker and more bittersweet than the movie ending, but I think that's the point. Hiccup tried and tried to make dragons and humans coexist but in the movies he realised that there will always be people who want to harm dragons and in the books he realises that he can't change the world in a single lifetime. The book ends on the note that the world is far form perfect and that while Hiccup was able to make things better, he nor any one person can do it all, and he leaves it up to the reader to make the world a better place so that the dragons can return. I think the movie gets a bit muddled as it wanted to emulate that ending but also have the whole "next generation" bit with Hiccup's kids. I'm happy they tried to match the end of the books while also putting their own spin on it, it wasn't perfect but it was a great effort and I applaud them for that.

I don't undesrtand yet why they decided to add the lines of the book series at the end.
