jesus CHRISTMAS dude! thank you so so much for your hard work, and please give yourself as much time off as you need that is ridiculous. this video was awesome as usual, i'm glad you covered Volume 0 because it's really important to the overall story. also i think the main reason we all fell in love with Maki is because she's straight-up. she doesn't hide behind stronger male characters, she's not a feeble supporting healer girl, and she's not the arrogant bi#$@y power-hungry woman type either. she's just a girl doing her best with what she's been given, and she makes sure everyone around her knows she can fold them like jello if they act up. she's literally textbook "cool" but it's done PERFECTLY.

I do remember thinking at the time either watching the show or reading the manga, that the comment from maki felt odd, I thought that it would probably be due to the cursed energy in the weapon being disgusting, probably because it absorbed it from a horrendous spirit or something, but yeah. These tiny things are so nice to have in a series.

The little details in the movie poking at lore from season 1 is incredible. The realization that Playful Cloud was one of Getou's weapons and that's why Maki hates it, Nanami hitting his 4 consecutive Black Flashes during his fight scene, and the consistency of the entire story despite this being a prequel to season 1. It's all incredible.

One reason for the consistency is that this story arc was the pilot arc for the manga.

Some background info about JJK 0: It was actualy the first thing "jujutsu kaise" thing created. It was a short 4 chapter long story which wasn't even named Jujutsu Kaisen but Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School,and only got called "Volume 0" later after the "main series" has already started (Many people were even doubtful if it was canon until Okkotsu was mentioned in the main series). After it did well in the magazine,Gege was convinced to serialize it and started Jujutsu Kaisen.
@trevoryorgesen21992 жыл бұрын
It's amazing how much this movie is connected to the first season. Our 7/3 champ was a mentor character and the one who taught us exactly what a black flash was when Todo taught it to Idatori. He told us his record, and now in this movie, we get to see him set that record right after Yuta lands his first ever black flash on Geto.
@matthewmuir88842 жыл бұрын
13:37 For me, the funniest thing about that scene is remembering Panda criticizing Maki for coming across as insensitive and realizing that Panda is being a bit hypocritical here in a funny way, as him asking _Yuta_ what Yuta likes in a girl is rather insensitive given Yuta's past and current predicament.

So, several things i would like to say. Fun story, I saw this in theaters and there was an auditable "ewwwww" and "wtf?!" from the audience when Yuta and Rika kissed for the power up. It cracked me and my best friend up, making us think, "you think that's gross? There's been gore and creepy imagery, people doing messed up things, and who knows what else, but Yuta kissing Rika was a step too far? Ok." Also, iirc, this movie was adapted from a one-shot that was named something else, but was rebranded as jujutsu kaisen 0 when it was printed into a manga volume cause the series was picked up and named jujutsu kaisen instead of the original name. A rarity in manga as usually the one-shot was used only to get the series picked up, but never mattered or was majorly changed when it did show up as a series. Three really good examples are naruto, mha, and death note having major differences , like naruto being an actual trickster fox (kitsune), mha had midoriya being a 20-something business man down on his luck originally, and death note having an eraser that brought people back from the dead if their name was erased out of the book with it as examples. So, that was pretty neat. Lastly, this movie is not only one of the greatest anime movies ever, but one of the greatest pieces of synergy between media in existence, because it doesn't matter if you watch this or season 1 first, you'll understand the story going on either way. If you watch this after the 1st season, you'll understand this upperclassman people kept taking about and the night of 1000 curses event, meanwhile, if you watch the movie first, you'll be like that Leonardo dicaprio meme from once upon a time in Hollywood going like, "I know who and what they're talking about." whenever those references showed up, while showing how yuta was doing after the fact as well with the whole sorcerer school games reference. Loved the video, as always, and I hope anyone reading this has a fantastic morning/day/night.
@Professor_Wisteria_2 жыл бұрын
my favorite part of this movie isn't how fucking good the animation is, it's how SIMPLE it is. so many anime and anime movies try to make scenes look epic and grand by adding in tons of extra effects and explosions and colors, and while some look amazing (cough cough FATE) it gets a little overwhelming to watch. Volume 0 doesn't do that, it just takes the powers and abilities of the world and simplifies them down to something that looks cool and is easy on the eyes. some of the coolest scenes in the whole movie weren't even the huge attacks, but rather the build-up to them, with just gorgeously smooth transitions through every scene. 10/10 i cannot think of anything they could've done any better for adapting this to film, it's incredible

Yuta vs Geto was so good. Seeing Geto getting a Black Flash haymaker as he's talking down to Yuta. Yuta's "final" declaration of love to Rika, as well as her reaction. Like you said, it really felt like pure love and adoration overflowing and mixing together with both of their fury and wrath. I've rewatched that scene alone probably like 6 times and the declaration makes me tear up everytime. Excellent work on the video as always, I'm sorry to hear that it took so long to get it out, as well as the physical and psychological toll it took on you. On the topic of the film though, I have to say I forgot how great it was after seeing it in theaters so long ago, and finally being able to watch it again brought back so much hype for the future of Jujutsu Kaisen as a whole. Just to confirm, Geto (the antagonist) was „unalived“ from Gojo in the end. But he still appears in the „Main story“. But there is one pretty noticeable detail that changed. Also gojo telling yuta he will be lonely is almost certainly a reference to how gojo feels lonely being the only one that powerful so nobody can understand him.

One thing that has me hooked as a History and folklore nerd is the little details that Jujutsu Kaisen works into the lore. In real life, the Gojo clan are distantly related to Sugawara Michizane. All of the big three clans in jjk exist in real life. They're not sorcerers (obviously), most are distant relatives to the imperial family or connected to the major temples. So the surnames of some of the main characters have connections to Japanese folklore and history. I'm really excited to see how those connections to real life folklore comes out as the story goes on. Also that is has encouraged more people to look into the real life history and folklore because of how popular jujutsu kaisen has become.

There is a great debate about Gojo last words to Geto, but the Author of the manga said that "Gojo said those words another time in the manga" referring to Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. @@Ri_Shin_Marco yeah, gojo’s past arc would probably only take up three or four episodes given that’s it’s only thirteen chapters, so that leaves, ideally, twenty twoish episodes for shibuya. I see what you mean about where some problems might come in pacing wise

Though this is by no means a perfect movie, as a lifetime shonen lover I had such a blast watching this movie on opening night. The opening walking sequence was just a criminal fan service hype builder, I didn't even realize Nanami had his own theme until I heard Working Overtime in his black flash scene, and I basically lept for joy and went "THAT'S NANAMI!" I think my brother put it best in that ufotable specializes in their consistent fluidity in animation, whereas MAPPA specializes in moments of brilliance. Where the story falters, the animation, action, phenomenal voice acting, "SO THAT'S HOW IT'S GONNA BE, YOU WOMANIZER?!" It's just shonen epitomized, easy 10/10

Rare double comment but I had to come back again today and watch this! Watched the movie with my sons last night (they love good anime) so just had to come back and show the appreciation again.

I watched this movie and theaters and I think about 3 more times since it’s been released on streaming and I’m now tempted to watch it again after watching your video! Thanks again for the great video!
