19:16 he mentions about how different Anakin’s life would’ve been had Qui Gon lived. A lot of people don’t seem to realize that Qui Gon and Obi Wan’s fight with Maul was never about simply defeating the a Sith Lord and saving Naboo. It was about Anakin. His entire future, his mentor, his ideals, hinges on who wins the fight. One might even say it’s not a duel in the conventional sense but rather… a duel of the fates.
@Firelayer12 жыл бұрын
Even you didn't really say what the true meaning of the fight was. It didn't only change Anakins life for ever, but by that also the whole galaxy. Every single person in the whole Star Wars Universe would have had a different life if Qui Gon didn't die. But mostly the Jedi, Anakin, Padmé and Sidious of course.
@coolmanplayz438 Жыл бұрын
Another idea of this that I can expand to the trilogy, from the duel of the fates through the rest of the trilogy, the Jedi are only able to win in the short-term. Yea they killed Maul, but Palpatine already had Dooku groomed and ready to go when Maul died, so congratulations, you have cut the head off the Hydra, just for another one to take its place. Even then, as revealed in the clone wars, they didn't really even kill Maul, since he shows back up later. Fast forward a bit, The republic technically won the battle of Geonosis, but Dooku still escaped, as did the death star plans, and now on top of that the galaxy is a in civil war. Fast forward further, the clone wars have ended, but all the manipulation of the dark side and barely winning caught up with the Jedi. In all these cases the Jedi only solved the short term problem, where the dark side took all the long term victories. In this example specifically, the dark side won the duel of the fates. Maul was defeated yea, but again he didn't die, and now Qui'gon Jinn, the master Anakin needed, is dead, so the galaxy is given the dark fate.

@Gyvulys6 жыл бұрын
+@@colinschmitt6571 Let's see now... "awful dialogue"? It was present in the originals as well. Can't criticize prequels for it, without mentioning it in originals, too. "bad cgi" Did you watch the video? The cgi is actually awesome, and holds up very well even today. Phenomenal for it's time. "over the top and stupid fight scenes" Which ones? Because none of them were over the top. These movies are showing the Force Users in their prime, at the height of their ability. It's expected, that they are able to do amazing feats. Each and every fight was amazingly choreographed and had actual meaning to the story. How again, were they "over the top" or "stupid"? "bad acting" Where? By whom? And again - look at Carry Fisher's performance in originals. Worse than anything in prequels. ""confusing things happened for the plot" Again, where? What was confusing? "and the many many hilarious stuff like I have the high ground or it’s treason then" The high ground actually did give Obi Wan a slight advantage, though it was not an automatic win. However, mainly, Obi Wan was goading Anakin at that point. Obi Wan had the experience of dealing with Maul, he knew this situation as well (the situation of the high ground AND the way sith operate). And what's funny about the "it's treason then" line? It fits just fine.

AmIgOltu just because it’s in the originals doesn’t justify it, Hayden Christianson Natalie Portman, the guy who played Palpatine, the cgi was ok in the third but when I said cgi I meant the first and second, confusing things in the plot means why does anikin go from crying about his girlfriend dying to tossing that bitch, and treason then is one of the stupidest scenes I have ever seen, like what was that noise and jump, also how do 4 Jedi masters die in 3 seconds, over the top fight scenes the one I just mentioned, Obi wan vs grievous, Obi wan be aniakn

+@@colinschmitt6571 At least you could try writing in a coherent manner.. Anyways... " just because it’s in the originals doesn’t justify it" Commonly, prequels' opposition loves the originals. Which is why I included this. The CGI was mostly the same in all 3 movies. It was amazing for it's time. And even today, it's far from terrible. "confusing things in the plot means why does anikin go from crying about his girlfriend dying to tossing that bitch" In that case, just as I suspected, you did not pay attention to the movie. Scratch that, you probably didn't watch it at all, if you refer to Padme as a "girlfriend". Because it was shown clearly enough how much Anakin changed by that time. He's already turned into a sith by that time, for goodness sake. Even this video itself explains it, if your attention span is too short for the movie. "and treason then is one of the stupidest scenes I have ever seen, like what was that noise and jump, also how do 4 Jedi masters die in 3 seconds" You seriously must not have watched the movie, or this video even, to not understand the scene. It's not rocket bloody science. Everything was laid out clearly. And neither of fights you mentioned were "over the top". As I mentioned before, they were what they had to be. I don't get what you mean, when you say "over the top". Explain maybe? All in all, it seems like you didn't watch the movies at all, and neither did you watch this video. And now you comment on it? You only complain for the sake of complaining, with no real arguments against the movies. It's ridiculous.

Anakin knew all of his tricks, which is what forced obi wan to stick to the defensive, else he would have used his knowledge of ataru that he likes to mix into his primarily soresu (he originally trained under qui-gon, a user of ataru, but when qui gon died obi switched to and mastered soresu, and used his former knowledge of ataru to mix in some offensive strikes, as seen in his very brief fight with Darth maul in rebels) fighting style to beat anakin. He realized near the end that Obi-Wan wasn't just a typical Jedi, he was the master of defense, to think that you could just kill a defensive master like that in 2-3 minutes is crazy, but that's what Anakin thought. And at the end, his emotions took control of his movements, had he been a little calmer maybe he wouldn't, I don't know, JUMP to the HIGH GROUND, and instead just, do a little jump and land on the land like 9 FEET IN FRONT OF HIM.

Though I don't disagree with the analysis of what made Anakin choke out Padme (the lust for power becoming overwhelming), I think it's also partly his lashing out at her for rejecting everything he did for her. Anakin realizes what he's done has been beyond the pale; there's truly no going back. He's destroyed the jedi, killed children, and completely turned the Republic on its head. All for her, all to keep her from dying. On top of that, he now has the power to reject anyone who was telling him he couldn't be with her. He can shape the world the way he wants it and no jedi will try to kick him out of the order for being in love or feeling emotions. Padme is finally safe and their ideal world will come as a result of all the evil Anakin had to do to get there. Then however, she rejects it all. She says they should run away together, leave all of it behind. This is aggravating enough as it is, since Anakin is already trying to tell her they don't have to run or hide anymore. He doesn't want to have to reflect on what he's done to get to this point. He doesn't want to hide from it, he wants to revel in the victory that's come of turning and destroying the jedi, but Padme doesn't want it. Then Anakin starts to believe Obi-Wan is behind her convictions and when he steps out of the ship it confirms in his mind that she never planned to side with him. All the work he'd put in to save her, she throws away, makes it all for nothing. The one person he threw his life away for he's lost because of Obi-Wan. With all things Anakin had done throughout the series, he lashes out in anger. I mostly put that out there because I remember a snide comment saying that Anakin choking Padme was out of character and stupid, but given everything that happens in Revenge of the Sith alone, I think it's completely within character for Anakin to snap and do something so stupid for all the reasons I mentioned.

Totally agree with this analysis. Anakin holds her and their love as the most important thing in his world and in that moment, thinking she was conniving with Obi-Wan all this time, he must’ve snapped. Another point, that “stupid” move wasn’t out of character because it could be argued that the decisions Anakin has been making the whole movie wasn’t all that wise anyway. lol (before anyone argues, yes, I know Anakin has been through years of manipulation and his nightmares might have been Sidious’ doing and to fall for that isn’t stupid as much as it is tragic, but let me ignore that for this joke :P)

@@Sukaiba69 The original trilogy was released from 1977 - 1983 and are usually referred to as Episodes IV, V & VI. This trilogy focuses on Luke Skywalker's involvement in the Rebellion and his personal journey to become a Jedi. The prequel trilogy was released from 1999 - 2005. This focuses on the early life of Luke's father Anakin. We see Anakin suffer from and eventually succumb to the psychological problems which were ignored by the Jedi. We also see background information on some of the supporting characters seen in the original trilogy.

Best of Star Wars. Hands down. Maul was perfect as he finally realized that Palpatine had to be stopped and Ahsoka grew up. When she was introduced she was an annoying child. Season 7 is where she became an adult and a Jedi Knight. Order 66 was still heartbreaking and still made me cry. It also was the best looking season of Star Wars and the most mature. I need more like the Clone Wars.
@stijnvandenheuvel81174 жыл бұрын
@@dianamaioru497 While I agree that Clone Wars enhances just about anything it touches, including Episode III, it is a bit jarring to me that Padme doesn't tell Anakin that she is pregnant, until about a week before she is due. Seriously, she tells him after the battle over Coruscant, and if I follow Clone Wars, it would be logical to assume that the arc only takes about a week at most, ending with Order 66. That would mean that Padme wouldn't even be visibly pregnant with TWINS until a week before she gives birth.

If you watch "Attack of the Clones", then the series "Clone Wars", then watch "Revenge of the Sith", it is so much more painful, watching the Jedi you have come to know throughout the series die, but also it shows Anakin and Obi Wans friendship a lot more. Obi Wans fighting style(Soresu)is mainly a defensive style and considered the weakest of the lightsaber forms because its mainly used to defend against blaster bolts. However, Obi Wan is said to be the master of it. Anakins lightsaber style is aggressive, like he is. PS: Never tell Palpatine he is not a Senate.

Not only that, but The Clone Wars greatly expands on the council’s failings towards Anakin. Obi-Wan and the council keeping Anakin in the dark about Obi-Wan’s “death”, pushing Ahsoka away from the Order, Obi-Wan lecturing Anakin on his feelings about Padmé instead of helping him, and the list goes on. Throughout the series you begin to see Anakin’s views shift with things that happen to him. I like to think of Anakin as the body and Vader as somewhat of a symbiont presence. Vader lives inside Anakin, and Anakin uses Vader when he needs something, but locks him back behind a cage. Through the series, we see that Anakin starts losing control over Vader and is unleashed at times that Anakin didn’t want to use him, and it happens much more often later on in the show, and feeds right into ROTS when Vader gains full control on Mustafar, and Anakin is locked away in the trunk. It’s a truly tragic story, doing bad things for the greater good, only to get drunk off of the power you’re wielding

The fact these awesome little details and tell tales are all throughout the movie to be found is great but I think many people didn't notice them either because they are easy to miss on a first viewing (which for many is the most they will ever watch these movies) and/or they were too distracted by cringey dialogue and really over the top slapstick humour or just generally silly additions that detract from the tone and diminishes the impact of the overall story. This is why the right fan edit can make these movies so watchable again as they cut away the unnecessary distractions and fat to help shine a light on the amazing story being told underneath it all.

One of the coolest things for me is how it re-contextualizes the fight between Obi Wan and Vader in IV. There’s no flashy spinning, flipping or clashing. They already did that and Obi Wan won. Obi Wan is too old for it now, and Vader is cautious, learning from his previous defeat. It’s simple feints and blocks, much more like two skilled fencers who have the measure of each other and it adds a whole new level of enjoyment to the original scene (which is made even better by seeing what full-power Vader is capable of in final scene of Rogue One)
@fullirishham1015 Жыл бұрын

Dave Faloni said smthn like the song “Dual of The Fates” is about Anakins fate bc Qui-Gon knows that if he dies then Anakin won’t be taught that it’s okay for a jedi to have emotions. And Qui-Gon was a dad to anakin but since Qui-Gon knew that he HAD to win the fight no matter what, but he didn’t and Anakin only saw Obi-wan as brother. So the “Dual of The Fates” in the “Phantom Menace” was about Anakins fate and Qui-Gon knew it but and tried his hardest to win but sadly he lost and Anakin didn’t have that father figure he needed which lead Palpatine to take that spot and corrupt Anakin.

@@espressocookie8965 also Anakin specifically learning form 5 which is a form that is built on the basis of Form 3 which is Obi Wan's Soresu that is much more aggressive and based on powerstrikes defence and counterattacking in lightsabre duels and less on blaster defence after being defeated by Count Dooku. form 5 was effective against the duellist style of form 2 dooku used after his defeat to him. the style complemented him well as it was about overpowering an opponent and counterattacking anything they returned with more brutal hits which would crush through the more calculated almost fencing style of form 2. as for Mace, he is actually using a variation of Form 7, standard is meant to be more about 'inner peace' balanced battle state, that he created with another master that is as you say about channelling darker emotions but can also draw power FROM the opponent so the more angered the enemy is, the more powerful the jedi using it becomes and might be why he was able to beat palpatine. there was a thing (i think it was in canon but it may just be fan thing so dont quote me exactly but almost certain in canon cba to look up) that many thought MACE was the Chosen One to bring balance to the force as he was a wielder of both the Dark Side and the Light through his Vaapaad variation of 7 and use of more dark side traits in general while maintaining his control, bit like Luke in end of RotJ. his sabre being purple is also meant to be a symbol of that as it is a mix of Red and Blue the predominant colours of lightsabres, legacy stuff but blue sabre wielders typically were more martial while green were more like 'wizards' who channelled force powers more. Mace thought it was HIS destiny to bring balance to the force as he could wield both and was a direct counter to darkside users as the more power they had they just gave him more in battle. him trying to kill palpatine was him trying to fulfil the Prophecy. (i know purple lightsabre was cuz Samuel wanted to see himself in the big fight and he loves purple but it was a good amount of story writing to explain it in old canon and made fair amount of sense) Edit: forgot to say. Form 7 itself isn't only known by a couple of force users. it is known by a fair number but is seen as the hardest to master. Mace's Vaapaad Variant based on channelling dark side emotions rather than a inner peace battle peace zen deal was the very rare style known only by a very very small number that he created with another master and i dont believe Palpatine knew. Palpy knew the standard Form 7 with perhaps some signs of Vaapaad simply from his own darkness but not the full style.

Ok there are a few you missed in my opinion: 1. The part where obi-wan screams you were the chosen one meaning from the beginning obi-wan never forgot what his master said about Anakin. 2. The part where right before the darth Vader’s helmet was put on he mumbled help me padme. 3. The way darth Vader screamed no in such a monotone voice showed the helmet made by palpatine took away the ability to show sadness or happiness only hatred.

@@Pharry_ IKR. The storyline in the sequels is way way way worse compared to the prequels. At least the prequels had a coherent storyline with a clear endpoint and good motivations for each character. The sequels are a clusterf*ck of messy half baked ideas which destroy everything in the Star Wars Universe. From hyperspace to the Force abilities everything is broken now (I mean everything) Force Ghosts can now react with the environment, making their deaths useless. Hyperspace can be used to make space nukes and kill thousands of people at once. People don't need training to master the Force anymore (Cough, Rey, Cough) Anakin's sacrifice was useless since Ol Creamy Sheev came back as a f*cking raisin.

"The critics were wrong." You know, Revenge of the Sith actually got pretty good critic reviews. It's an interesting example of a film that takes two preceding films, wraps up their plot threads, and retroactively makes them work better. A number of scenes in TPM/AOTC are so much more powerful when we revisit them after ROTS. Particularly scenes like Anakin leaving his mother, and how we suddenly realise in hindsight that the Youngling is a spitting image of his child self. When Anakin kills the younglings, he kills Anakin Skywalker. The child that made a promise to his mother that he couldn't keep.

Seriously... in a video defending it, you didn't mention a moment so many mock... the scene where Obi-Wan and Anakin twirl their lightsabers for "no reason". This moment is actually a very good moment. The battle shows how similar Obi-Wan and Anakin are as an apprentice and master would be. Their strategy is almost identical. Rewatch the scene and you'll see so many identical things such as the moment they both go to force push one another. The twirl is done to try and get an edge on your opponent and throw them off from where you strike them. They both used the same tactics to counter each other throughout, that twirl happened because Anakin was trained by Obi-Wan they both attempted the same move at the same time. The symmetry in the scene is really good.
@yoda55238 жыл бұрын
spinning the blade helps deflect blaster bolts and makes your next attack unpredictable and the enemy will be too focused on the blade spinning and won't be ready when it strikes. It's tactics. I don't understand why people have a problem with the duels. I guess they need someone to complain about

I’m actually so happy to see people defending this movie. Even if it’s got flaws (like every movie, remember the Ewoks), it’s still got very good ideas. What I loved in it were those 2 things - You really see how Anakin is conflicted and how he ends up turning to the dark side. He’s not just some teenager rebelling, he’s an adult who got trapped, emotionally drained without help at all. Doesn’t really help you to take the right decisions when you’re despaired - the republic, the empire, and all the political systems bring a much bigger view to the emperor’s plan. You really see how he takes advantage of a corrupted system with greedy people and how he manipulates every bit of it. Fanatics and war-related speeches don’t do good things in the end. Try to link it to every country’s History. Also it’s not just 23 rebels against an empire. It’s real, and it’s scary.
