Fun Fact: This movie almost didn’t exist because someone accidentally deleted the footage, it was Galyn Susman the technical director of the film who saved it with a copy she had at her home. So Galyn is the true savior of the movie. And her reward was being a producer on the upcoming Lightyear movie. The reason the end for the Prospector seems so torturous is because he's been obsessed with staying in mint condition to be worth something. He defines his worth based on his product condition & monetary value. The kid that he ends up with is "an artist" who transforms her toys (with love, not sadism like Sid). So it's a terrifying ending for him knowing he's heading for "transformation" which will totally negate any monetary value he has.

@nivi8846
@nivi8846 2 жыл бұрын
@@devilsadvocate. Maybe not definitely, but I could see it. I was going to say that the Prospector was so determined to live his life in a museum that he would maim Woody just for wanting to be with his kid again (Ya know, the one he was STOLEN from). Who's to say that he'd ever learn to accept a kid's love? But... it's not like he was doing what he did for the sake of being evil. He personally saw the trauma that Jesse went through and how it affected her through years if not decades of sitting in storage, and he probably didn't enjoy being locked away in the dark either. So yeah, now that he's able to be embraced and loved instead of forgetten and neglected, he might actually be able to see the value of just being someone's toy. It would've been pretty to cool to see the Prospector in later installments, if only for a short cameo, just to check up on him.
@RobertJW
@RobertJW 2 жыл бұрын
And probably that value he places on himself as a collectible stretches back to his very first owner, after he went unsold for a while whoever bought him new off the shelf probably delighted in his in-box-mint and long since out-of-production Prospector, and said so in his presence, instilling those values of condition and monetary worth into him. He's already furious at Woody since he has to get out of the box to try and stop him escaping and devaluing the collection, and then his fate goes against everything he believes in.

One detail about Toy Story 2 I always found interesting pertains to the final episode of Woody's Roundup. The episode we see Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye watching is said to be the penultimate episode, as Pete says the finale cancelled. Later on, Woody turns on the tape when Buzz and other toys show up, and it starts playing just before the end of the penultimate episode, just as TV Woody is about to jump the canyon. The episode stays on throughout the rest of the scene. However, if you listen to the background just after Buzz leaves, you can hear this exchange: TV Woody: _"Is everybody okay?"_ TV Jessie: _"Sheriff Woody! I knew you'd make it!"_ TV Woody: _"Now, remember, deputies. The real treasures are your friends and family. Before I go, kids, I want to share somethin' special with you... for the times when I'm not around."_ This then leads into the TV Woody singing 'You've got a Friend in Me." This suggests that the final episode was playing in the background during this scene. Maybe the finale wasn't cancelled like Pete said, maybe it was filmed and not aired but shown on tape, or maybe the final episode was never shown to the public but is on a studio-owned tape that Al possesses. Regardless of what happened, it begs the question, if the finale did exist, why did Pete pretend it didn't? Simple. Pete is a manipulator, and the idea that the Roundup Gang supposedly didn't get a happy ending in their show allows him to more easily convince the other toys that their only choice for one is at the museum. He noticeably took advantage of this to manipulate Jessie, who was dealing with emotional trauma after being tossed aside by her former owner; she felt she had no other future. This also explains why Jessie immediately turns the TV off after the penultimate episode, not even checking to see if there truly was a final episode: Pete told her there was nothing left so why keep it running? Pete even tries to pull the same tactic on Woody throughout the film, only now weaponizing Jessie's fear of going into storage and the idea that what happened to her might happen to him to gaslight him into thinking the museum is the best choice, which nearly works. The only reason Pete didn't notice the final episode playing when Buzz and the toys were there because he was focused on preventing Woody from leaving, as his presence is key to Pete's plan. It's such a minor detail but it's also the culmination of all the little hints that show just how insidious and manipulative Pete is, and this is all before his villainous side is even fully revealed. Edit: _Wanted to fix some mistakes and hopefully make it easier to understand._

That actually is a VERY misunderstood joke, I think. It's not really sexual in nature. If you've ever been around dogs, their ears often go up when startled or surprised. So because Jessie was rescuing a dog, and Buzz was shocked by her athleticism, they probably had his wings go up like dog ears!

Toy Story 2 remains my favorite Toy Story film. The stakes feel higher than in the other three, and I can appreciate how hard everyone worked on it to make a deadline *less than a year away*, AND still make a good film. After reading about it on TV Tropes, it's also incredible just how well they portray Jessie's claustrophobia and panic attacks, and how the Prospector weaponizes those against her. It's also pretty amusing that there seems to be more collateral damage in this film compared to the others - the toys freaking hijacked a pizza delivery truck and an airport luggage train, for Pete's sake (not to mention all of the suitcases that probably wound up on the wrong flights due to the antics on the luggage conveyors)!

And depending on how much security/surveillance there is in the building, they may not even really get to get up and goof around with each other once they're there! So, like... Imagine you get to live forever, but instead of getting to do things, you're just stuck in a box where you can see the people you want to interact with, but you can never reach them. If you look closely at the left side where he comes in, he gets pushed on-screen by an adult’s hand, explaining why he looks so lost when he appeared on-set. He was probably nervous, which made his finding and hugging of Woody all the more endearing. Especially love the real-world logic that he doesn’t interrupt the music at all, despite Woody letting go of the guitar, because that stuff is usually just pre-recorded.

This is still my favourite Pixar movie, so thank you for CinemaWinning it! Now, a few comments/answers to things brought up in the video: 1:50 - Yeah. I never had a Super Nintendo, either. I considered myself super lucky that when the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 were coming out, my parents found a Sega Genesis at a garage sale. But still. I do feel that terrible longing for those amazing games of the past, which I never got to try as a child. *Sigh.* 3:25 - Not only has the legal system recognized how unreliable eyewitness testimony without proof is, but psychology has likewise recognized how unreliable our memories are when we aren't deliberately trying to memorize something. I mean, when I had an assessment after the first time I had COVID-19, I can still remember that they repeatedly asked me to remember the words "face, velvet, church, daisy, red," in that order. And I can remember that when I took PSYC 104, about ten years ago, our professor asked us to randomly remember the number 5, and see if we recalled at the end of the semester what he'd said and why. I can remember things like that, but at other times I can't tell if my "memories" of certain moments are real or imagined. It's kind of eerie. Anyway, that's why it's so valuable to write things down or otherwise record them; memories are pliable, and thus unreliable. (Yeah, I guess that rhymes. I wasn't intentionally trying to make a slogan or anything.) 4:50 - Hee hee. Calvin and Hobbes reference? 5:09 - As to what's on the other channels when Hamm flips through, aside from those Listerine commercials, several of those are early Pixar animated shorts. That... umm... confusing... image at 5:15 comes from their short "Knick-Knacks." I seem to remember that on the VHS version of some Pixar movie (maybe Finding Nemo?) that short played before the main movie. So, yeah. Thank Pixar itself for the strange, uncanny, buxom porcelain bikini girl. 5:53 - You know, when I was young, I just interpreted Jessie's fear as claustrophobia. And since phobias are classified as irrational fears, I figured she was overreacting. Hence why it came across as kind of funny. But the thing is, for a toy in the Toy Story universe, storage is quite literally being buried alive, and not even being given the ability to die. So... yeah. It really is horrific. And in the Toy Story Hallowe'en special, when you see Jessie get sealed inside of a box, it starts to make sense why she's so scared of it. 9:17 - Ah, ha ha. If you live in Canada, like I do, you know this pain. That price mark-up for the book is a joke because it's only SLIGHTLY exaggerated. ...Well, ok, so books from the U.S. don't sell for 10x the price in Canada. But a lot of books DO cost nearly twice as much, between the conversion of USD to CAD, and the extra shipping & customs costs. That's why it's much nicer when a publisher gets a deal with a Canadian printing press as well. 13:26 - You know, when I was given a Nintendo 3DS for Christmas in 2013, one of the biggest reasons I felt so happy, was that I could download all of those NES and SNES games I'd never got to try as a child. A part of me felt more whole as I worked my way through those. So I get that sentiment. OK. That was long. Thank you again for the video, on one of my favourite Pixar movies ever. IT's brightened my day.

It took a couple years for me to actually see the full movie, and it's one of my favourite movies haha Also it took me until maybe two years ago to register that the difference between the first tear in Woody's arm and the second was him being in toy state the first time, leaving it limp.

Funnily enough, I never heard the Andy's Mom theory before... But it did get me thinking about how Andy would be so into Woody's Roundup if the show was really old at that point... He probably found some old tapes his mom had, and when she saw how into it he was, she felt a little guilt about how she herself abandoned that interest. That's why she got a Woody doll (something very rare to find in good condition) for her son, gave him her hat, and just helped encourage his passion.

Fun fact and missed win: Tom Hanks' Reaction To The Woody’s Roundup Toys Was Genuine. When Pixar made the first Toy Story, the animators let Tom Hanks ad-lib certain scenes, such as when he is using Buzz’s severed arm like a puppet. This happened once again in Toy Story 2. When Woody finds out he is a known character all over the world because of Woody’s Roundup and the cereal Cowboy Crunchies, he is then shown all of the show’s merchandise. Woody was in utter amazement of it all, but so was Hanks. When Hanks was in the recording booth, the animators showed him sketches of the fictional merchandise and recorded his reactions.

Disney didn't buy Pixar until 7 years after this movie was made, so it hardly broke the mold when it came to Disney sequels. Also, the first ever Disney sequel to be released direct to video was 4 years after Rescuers Down Under. Also, the original Rescuers was almost a 101 Dalmatians sequel, but they changed the villain from Cruella de Vill to Madam Medusa at the last minute (her swamp mobile is made from parts of Cruella's car). And in a similar twist, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers was originally going to be a Rescuers sequel as well, but the company didn't want to "risk" an important IP like that on a TV show. How times change.
