@@matthewschwer6048 Yeah, but honestly the piss drinking was the stupidest way to start the movie. You immediately alienate a big chunk of the audience (I was going to say "put a bad taste in their mouth" but that seemed too obvious). The fact that he has a hand pumped device that can turn salty urine into drinkable water means he could just as easily scooped up some sea water and done the same thing. I personally liked the movie but there were some scenes that were just stupid/unnecessary.
@matthewschwer60483 жыл бұрын
@@testfire3000 I do agree that it’s an odd scene to open up on. However, contrary to what one may think, urine and ocean water are not the same. It is very likely that if sea water were used in the machine the more delicate parts might be damaged by higher salt/silt content. The actual simple answer is a still. Cleaning would be simpler than the no doubt complex machinery needed to clean piss. Dang it me, stop trying to fix a decades old movie that, for all its faults, you already enjoy.
@testfire30003 жыл бұрын
@@matthewschwer6048 Hahaha, thank you sir for your reply! I agree, a simple still would have made the most sense. Solar powered perhaps, so it is just constantly generating a small source of water? If you are as well you should look into Wasteland Weekend, it's an amazing post-apocalyptic festival in Death Valley in California. Years back a group who goes to it found the scale model of the Exxon-Valdez that they made for Waterworld in a junk yard and a bunch of us kick started it so they could buy it. They cut it into pieces and every year they ship it out on 18 wheelers to the festival, set it out in the middle of the desert and it's a bar/dance stage/DJ booth that runs all night! Crazy fun.

Two things: - Will you be doing an "Everything Great about Willow" video?! Please! Please do! I know a lot of us would love it! - Heh, I get you about feeling sensitive (hypothetically, of course) about thinning hair. Me, I'm in my early 30s, and I knew it would probably happen to my hair eventually. But when I got badly sick with COVID-19 at the start of this year, it left a lot of marks on me. One of them was that it seemed to hasten hair loss by several years. I went from having a mostly normal scalp, to almost immediately having a clearly defined area of hair at the top of my head that is definitely thinner than the area around it. I didn't want this to happen this soon. Well, when that hair eventually disappears, I'll try to wear the look honourably, heh. So, don't feel bad, Lee. Hypothetically, of course. :P

The Universal 1990-1997 opening logo variant was created with VFX, one of the first film to use this technology. Another fun fact is the zooming of the Universal globe where certain places fill in with water first is all accurate, the order of which the continents fill in with water, director Kevin Reynolds went to NASA for the most accurate look of the sea levels rising. I remember this movie coming on TV all the time as a kid in the 90s. I haven't properly sat through it yet but as a fan of MadMax I'm sure I'd love it. I can imagine filming over water with all these realistic contraptions was quite expensive!

It's kinda weird but super endearing and nice to me to see that so many actors and movies that were panned and ridiculed in either their time or basically the 90's (some of them were laughed at, that's one the reasons why when people say '' omg the 90's were the best can we go back??!!'' I just go ''errrr you sure about that?'') are now widely showed either love, affection or just wholesomeness by new generations. They have fresh eyes and did not have their feet in that ''climate'', so they can all see that for what it was. They also see the struggles and are more empathetic (see here Brandan Fraser struggles, Keanu Reeves as a ''bad actor'' is now genuinely loved, all types of movies that were laughed away, how people saw Spears when she had a meltdown, to name a few. That one broke my heart at the time. Even worse seeing other peep's reaction to it....). Sorry for the rant. If it's one. But yeah. I saw it all around, and it's nice to have... fresh to brains who can appreciate things differently cause they weren't in that specific mold, they're from another time. Eh. Just adding : not all people were that way. But that's what came out the most. That's the lovely thing with internet. Anonymity shows you the worst, but also some reaaally nice bits of Humanity.

I think we need to revisit the older Pixar movies, especially the Toy Story ones

Cool detail that I'm way too late to be pointing out, the four browning fifty-cals are actually on a mount from a real military vehicle; the M17 AA truck. The only differences that I can see are the caps missing from the ammunition boxes and the sheet of metal in front of the gunner that would protect you from small arms fire (a feature assumedly, and correctly, deemed unnecessary in a world with so few firearms)

Great video, your comment about the Postman reminded me that movie exists, and I hope you do a video on that one day.

The very first time I saw this movie was on the Sci-fi channel. They showed the TV extended version, I was smart enough to record it in VHS. The next few decades had me only watch that version of the film as the theatrical cut seems too, well, cut. Suffice to say that VHS was pretty well watched and worn out till I eventually digitised it onto DVD in a panic to halt it's degredation as the only cut available was the theatrical one. I later found the Ulysses cut and downloaded it, it was basically the TV cut with a few other extras. Then my dream came true, Arrow released a Waterworld collectors edition. A full remaster on Blu-ray with Ulysses and TV cut and booklet, new special features, everything! 25 or so years I waited. And yes I still have that DVD VHS copy I made.

I watched this when I was young and before I had internet. Loved this movie. I get internet and hear people saying how bad this movie is. I don't get why. It's so good imo!

I’ve always loved this movie. I wonder if they casted someone with a little more personality as the mariner if it would have been way better. I loved mad max and this is basically made max on water

Willow, Waterworld and Legend were movies I grew up on, so even before you mentioned Willow I was thinking of it. Those three movies remind me of each other just because of how often I watched them as a kid (I was 9 when Waterworld came out, I feel super old)

Another one that reminded me of this was The Dark Crystal, only because that's another movie that is still good, regardless of plot, just for the scenery.

I don't care if if the movie was heavily slated... it's been a favourite of mine since it was released. If I'm ill or want a film to fall asleep to (and then not because I want to see it all again) it's gotta be Waterworld :)

I can’t say I’m a fan of the film because I kind of find most of our protagonists annoying (especially the girl). That said I rewatched this the other month and I do like all the practical props/sets (especially how the camera lingers on them to show how they work), the stunt work, and watching Dennis Hopper take huge bites out of the scenery
