To give my own personal praise to Pedro Pascal, I watched this entire movie with someone in the cinema. After it was over, I turned to her and said, "that wasn't half bad, but I gotta say... I didn't see Pedro Pascal anywhere. I thought he would have been an important character or something? Where was he? Did I miss him?" The look and following ridicule I received was fucking priceless. My theory for the Wonder Woman films is that they are corresponding to the eras of comic books. The first was golden age, set during a war and didn’t shy away from killing. This movie was a perfect translation of the silver age, a fun romp kicked off by a random plot device that doesn’t change too much by the end. The overt focus on Wonder Woman not killing is reminiscent of the comics code authority that defined the silver age.

YES, this is exactly my thinking, have her refuse to give Steve up, really sell it, which would give her a good reason for wearing the the armour. Then in her fight with Cheetah, she's losing, she finally realises what she's losing by not having giving Steve up - Cheetah goes to land a final blow, Diana all powered up, Steve gone, stops her and goes on to beat her. End scene.
@carlotta4th
@carlotta4th 3 жыл бұрын
Yup, that simple reorder fixes a lot. She uses the armor to be strong again and fly--it doesn't work (she loses to Cheetah), and after a bit of a pity fest about how the armor was supposed to solve her problem she gets a pep talk and has to give up Steve and learn to fly on her own. That still doesn't make the movie *good* but it fixes a few problems at least.

Then a decade later with the advent of pizza hut and places like that the average uk citizen had pizza because it was widely accessible and popular. It's kinda like my problem with bucky saying he read the hobbit when it first released. While it was available at the time there would have been only a few thousand or even less copies in the world at that time. It's still possible just not plausible especially given he's American not British and that's where those first copies where published.

Although Captain would never kick a man already down. Barbara's scene started with her standing up for herself, immediately went too far with her sadistically torturing someone to death; not for justice, but for revenge. It always come down to their integrity and how compassionate they are.

The score at the beginning is my favorite. It's the same progression and rhythm as the main theme but in a major key. It shows that when she was young, Diana was full of hope and optimism. The first time her theme appears in the first movie is during the battle when her entire world view is shifted after witnessing the horrors of war.

Honestly, despite whatever criticisms I have of WW84, it was the Beautiful Lie sequence that made it all click for me. The whole movie, Diana's desire to have Steve back has been in some sense rooted in a desire to not be alone. All the friends she made in WW1 either are dead or will die while she stays young. She wanted to believe that she could have a constant in her life. But ultimately she realized that on this path she's chosen for herself, to an extent she will always be alone. It's an acceptance that being exceptional, being a hero, will always set you apart from other people. She can't live a normal life. The other Amazonians will live on, sure, but she will constantly have to befriend mortals and watch them die. Steve died, Etta died, etc. Bringing in a Beautiful Lie was an inspired touch because in the opening of BvS, Batman reminisces about when he believed he could have a normal life. But in part because of his parents' position/wealth, they were taken. The BvS opening is Batman acknowledging that because of the life he leads in the shadows, he CAN'T have a normal life. He sacrificed his opportunity to leave it behind and try to have warmth and happiness so he can be a hero and stop other children from losing their parents like he did. BvS also does that for Superman, showing how as the last of his race he doesn't have anyone who TRULY understands him. And he too will always be alone but he accepts that and puts himself out there even sacrificing his life to save everyone. It develops the Trinity as these three characters who all basically chose to be alone in order to be a hero but they found a connection in each other. Say what you will about Zach Snyder, but he at least TRIED to give the three some deeper thematic weight to them and their journeys.
