Really no one should make comments about the situation with the nanny.....We are not privy to what went on in their conversations, working relationship, the times when the cameras were off or what the problem really was. For all we know, She may have just said they like their privacy as a polite way to explain that the nanny was gone without going into detail that may have caused hurt feelings....about something else that may have happened, and why assume that the problem was all theirs? We don't have the right to judge what we can't see or hear....it' pretty unfair.

When I was at BYU, I took an international HR class - it was all about placing American families on foreign work assignments. My professor told us that the family will absolutely hate the first 6 months wherever they’re placed - after the initial “honeymoon” period wears off, it’s just so different, lonely, and unfamiliar. But, if the family could make it past six months - they would absolutely come to love it. I use that idea with any major change in my life - try it for six months and then decide if it’s working. You can do this! In the meantime, I’ll continue being jealous of your life in Europe! Love from Chicago.❤️

So sad that there are so many judgmental comments regarding a situation we know nothing about. It's also very strange that people watch these vlogs when they are so against this wonderful family's lifestyle???. Love the Knorpps, they are living life to the fullest and raising kind, smart and worldly little humans. Enough with the judging and criticism. Don't agree, don't watch!

You got this...I'm sure the kids are bored. Finish out your rental and head to a suburb of a larger city where English is a common second language. Same here. I never expected people to speak French when I traveled. You have to make the effort or at least try. I just responded to the part "head to a suburb of a larger city where English is a common second language" because it doesn't exist in France.

As someone who has experienced culture shock too (in the other direction, Europe to the US) ... it will go away :) From watching this video, to me it feel like it's not only culture shock, but also the transition from RV life to staying somewhere longer. The way you mentioned that you are less mobile now without your van yet. You were used to always be on the go, and while you did stay in NYC for longer, that is such a busy city that you can always explore. With this rural house tho, it's perfectly okay to have full days spent at home. I think it would help getting into the mindset of being a local, and don't worry about having relaxed days at home just reading books,... you don't have to feel like you are missing out on your adventure if you don't do some exploring every day :)

As a travel nanny myself I totally understand how having a nanny is not for everyone. A lot of people think that it's so fun and easy being a travel nanny and it's fun but not easy at all. Your not on vacation your working and it's hard to separate the two. And for a family who is used to not having someone extra to worry about it's hard! Also culture shock is so hard! Your not used to the way other countries do things and it can be isolating. It will get better! Have fun and enjoy!

The first thing that seemed odd to me was that Sarah had to share a room with Esther. If she was a proper employee she should have been given her own room and space to switch off, even if it meant you and Mike had to sleep in the living room or share with the younger kids, but I got the impression that she was coming along as "part of the family" so was okay with that. Now she's been let go it seems that she was neither a part of the family or a proper employee. 3 weeks was no time to give it a chance, especially as you all needed time to acclimatise and get over the jetlag. I think you've been really unfair to her.

My husband and I moved our young family of 5 (we have 2 sets of twins all 5 children born in under 5 years) from England to New Zealand 10 years ago and although emigrating to another country that is English speaking seems very different to what you are doing, surprisingly it has many similarities. New Zealand is the most beautiful place on earth but that did not stop that overwhelming feeling of CONFUSION that enters your brain somewhat like severe brain fog as your brain recognises is confronted with all the differences and unfamiliarity of your surroundings. The resulting feeling of vulnerability is unfathomable. Add to that that you are suddenly as parents very much alone in charge of your children in that you cannot access family if you get that urge. I appreciate you couldn't easily do that when you were in the US travelling either but you know deep down you could pop back if there were to be an emergency. In this period of adjustment to have a stranger to adjust to would have been just too much . At this time you will draw closer in as a family to overcome that vulnerablity. Larger families tend to be a little bit more of a self contained unit that can be impenetrable. But at this time this would even more so. It isn't a slight on Sara. It would just take a very specific person to slide in and fit into a family like yours at any time but more so in these circumstances. Anyway I would just like you to know the feelings you are having may just be the most challenging you will experience in your entire life but they will settle, especially if you don't get panicked by them and give yourself plenty of time to relax and just be. It will pass! And it's so worth it in the end!

As someone that has lived long term in 3 different countries at this point in my life, you have to embrace the culture shock. Remind yourself that's why you are there, it is terribly exhausting, but it does pass. Also be ware of the fact that pretty much everyone I've talked to that has moved countries has said the 2-3 month mark is the worst. The novelty wears off & you are now starting to see the problems of where you are now living & you just want to go home where everything is safe & familiar. Take a deep breath, and another one. Don't make any major decisions while you feel overwhelmed. The feeling passes & suddenly you will find yourself through the hard times in the calm pool that follows & everything gets easier.

Whilst the idea of having a nanny/au pair come into your house is a blessing, if it doesn't work out then it's best for both side for the arrangement to part ways. We has the same thing, we loved our time with our au pair however it just didn't feel right, and she moved onto another family that she would be able to help out. The best thing you did was communicate with her, don't let others comments discourage you. You know whats best for you and your beautiful family. :)

As a professional nanny for 19 years, I 100% understand where you are coming from with the not fitting. When you are not prepared for the change in you life (as a parent), to suddenly have someone in your space 24/7, it's intense. It's much different than posting a KZbin video about your life, to some person, who is not in your family, being there at all times. As a nanny, we should always be prepared in the change of position, especially within the first 8 weeks of a new position. I applaud you for recognizing this need now! And for not letting the discomfort continue. If you get a chance, visit Devon and Cornwall, as a British expat, I spent many summer vacations in Cornwall, it's a magical place.

I feel like you guys should've looked more into the nanny thing before so this didn't happen to Sarah. That must've been terrible to just leave after being with the kids and building that connection. They seemed to just gotten her without a plan or any idea how having a nanny is. Of course you lose some privacy, I mean you're living with her. Even when she first came to them they said they were unsure about what she should do. Just badly planned and anticipated.

I think it is sometimes easy for people to forget that this is your family's real life and not some reality program. I think that this video shows just how strong and resilient the life choices you and your family have made this far. Keep doing what you are doing, because it obviously is working. You have 9 of the most well rounded, intelligent kids that I have ever seen. Keep your heads up Knorpp and South because you are already accomplishing great things! Ps. Aww. I'm sorry it didn't work out with Sarah, but I understand where you're coming from about privacy. I'm sure you'll work something out. I may have missed it in your earlier videos, but what made you decide that your first stop in France would be here? Wow. You are fluent in toddler speak. :D I couldn't figure out what Jude was saying. Haha, a parents-only skill. It's so great to see how much he has grown in confidence over the year+ that you've shared these videos. Also, I'm chuckling over the blackberries craze. I'm waiting for the day you're all like "ugh, blackberries!" But it's really cool that blackberries are growing everywhere! I can see that you're both looking a little bit out-of-sorts in this video. I appreciate that you share your moments when you feel the need to recalibrate and reassess your motivations, instead of pretending everything's perfect. Life isn't perfect, but what's important is how we deal with the challenges. :) So much love to you and your family!

While I do think it's unfortunate that things didn't work with Sarah- I don't think it's right to judge them for letting her go. I'm not gonna pay someone to make my living situation uncomfortable. Culture shock, however, is definitely very real and you'll just need to allow yourself some time to adjust in each place. Italy was worse for me actually, and I felt most at home in Germany. I don't know where in France you are, but if you are near Toulouse or would like to connect with my French family please reach out and let me know! I was their first nanny/au pair and we still speak frequently, but they had experience with a couple au pairs after me that didn't work out so well. It's completely understandable that sometimes it just doesn't work out and no doubt you treated Sarah well, even when sending her on her way. Hang in there and just take your time figuring out what's next! Wishing you the best from our RV traveling family to yours.

Hi friends, you look like you are bored. Three weeks in a lovely but sleepy village in a place where you know no one is not as exciting as your previous life. Things are slower in much of Europe, and the town you are in is quaint, yet almost silent. You folks need friends. All the kids and adults. Take that risk. Have you found a church yet? I will lift you up in prayer that you make a few friends while you are in the village, and also that your vehicle arrives ASAP. There are just so many family hikes you can take in a one-mile radius. On the other hand, Jude is growing so nicely. He is strong, vocal, running well, laughing, and so many things he didn't do for so long. This is certainly something to thank God for. Is he completely potty trained? I remember when you were working on that. The other thing: What fantastic teenagers you have. Elijah and Esther seem like such good kids. In your reevaluating time, remember to reevaluate the great opportunities you have given the teens in your family. Also, Daniel is building muscle. I can see it in his neck. He is going to be a fantastic chef someday soon, and an opportunity for him to spend an afternoon with a French chef??? What an awesome experience this would be for Daniel. I think I recall you Megan or Mike saying that your goal was to give your kids opportunities to bond together as a family, and also to bond with you. From the oldest to the youngest, you have succeeded. Growth and development for all the kids has been your goal, and the challenge of a slightly larger city may be the ticket you need to move forward, as you said in this video Mike. No doubt you are on the right path, even if it is full of thorny twigs, there are plenty of blackberries along the way! God bless you all. Priscilla Sissem

Excellent advice about recalibrating and goal setting. My husband and I do that every wedding anniversary while out for dinner. We also go over the strides we have made over the last year as well as the challenges. It didn't start out as an intentional thing but we're coming up on 12 years on September 4th and it's one of my favorite things about our anniversary celebration.

I'm not surprised your nanny didn't work out. I'm in my 40's outgoing, confident and every family I worked for loves me. Sometimes it's just personality and that you need someone experienced. I'm not applying for the job as I have my own channel and hoping it will take off this fall as I ramp up. Watching your vlogs has inspired me to start my own channel. I love you guys and pray for you. Don't look back, keep going I see lots of great advice on here. Maybe just take a month and just rest in one place and then continue on. Do what makes you happy but be sure and vlog so we can live vicariously through you. Blessings and hugs💕

I moved from the USA to Mazatlan Mexico when my children were young. I had vacationed there many times first, already had a rental house that we had stayed in several times before moving, had learned basic spanish, and connected with a church. Even with all of the previous trips, and preparing for the move, we still had some issues, and felt homesick for the states at times. My kids are grown now, and they often tell me how happy they were to have lived in another country when they were little. (I still have a house there, and still live at least 50% of the time in Mexico) I know that going to Europe is quite different from my experience, as we were much closer to the U.S. if we wanted to go back, and there was a very large community of Americans living near us. I am sure that once you have a plan, and get your van back so you can go do more things, life will become a bit more comfortable. This is an incredible experience for the family, and if you decide to go home early, that is fine too. You have to do what i best for your family in the end. Blessings to you all on this journey

Are you planning a side trip to Paris at all? I totally get wanting to stay in the country for most of the time, but it would be a shame to miss the awesomeness of Paris. I would go for a week at least. So many incredible museums and of course historical buildings like Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower. I'm sure you are feeling stuck without your van, but they have amazing trains in France!

While I am sad to see the situation with having a nanny didn't work out, I completely understand. While the situations are majorly different, I was basically raised by Au Pair's. My parents worked a lot and so I had a few live in nannies until I was at an age where I could fend for myself. While the nannies were all amazing people, I always felt like I missed out on having experiences with my parents and growing closer with them because it became easy for them to just go do things and leave me with the au pair. I feel you all made the right decision for your family and I'm sure Sarah understands and is appreciative for the experiences she had with you all. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Glad to see you're all enjoying the French countryside.

I have to give Megan & Mike credit!! They are trying so many new things at once. I understand that there was likely a lot of factors going into letting Sarah go which they'll keep some of which private. The bright side of being the producer of the videos is they can show what they wish. They've shown and shared so much information, they don't need to share every single detail, there's got to be some privacy! And btw, those blackberries are making me hungry!!

Viewers seem to forget they are not in your shoes, only watching where your shoes walk. If the nanny didn't work out, good for y'all for making the tough decision to move on from it. You clearly loved and appreciated her but things don't always work out. Viewers are viewers. It isn't our business to condemn or criticize anyone else. You guys are an inspiration through your good days and bad days. You're HUMANS on the adventure of a lifetime. If you are having a hard time adjusting, it'll get easier. It just takes time! Who cares if you weren't fluent in every language of the countries you want to visit. Go visit them anyway! You guys rock and whatever decisions you make from here on out will be the right ones. Ignore those who are negative and embrace your out of the box, AMAZING adventure and keep moving on. ❤️

I like to consider myself pretty well-travelled. As a kid I moved from big city to tiny village to boarding school, I've taught English in rural Ghana, travelled Europe, now I live in the Netherlands and have done for over a year, though I'd like to move somewhere with a totally different culture in the future. My experience with culture shock, whether it be minor or severe, is that it only lasts a certain amount of time, usually 2-4 weeks. I understand it can feel very lonely, esp if you don't speak the language. The trick is to involve yourself as best you can in the culture, to learn about it, to meet people, to not be fixed in your ways, because the culture will not change for you, you must adapt and embrace it. As the language barrier goes, most people will be overjoyed that you've made the effort to speak to them in their native language, even if you're bad at it. Also, consider moving to a more touristy area and possibly mixing with expats. There's plenty of Facebook groups for expatriates in every city and, in my experience, expats tend to be around your age and a lot have children, it'd be good for you to mix with people who've felt the same way you do right now and to get some tips. You've said before that you have strict routines, though these may work for your family, they may not work for the culture, for example I woke at 4/5am every morning in Ghana, because that's what everyone did. Change is not always easy to make, but it is worth it, I know you keep these routines for the children but I think they'll surprise you in how they adapt. Hope this helps even a little bit ❤️

A few of my kids have needs that required different therapies. We homeschool as well. Last fall after having a different therapist in my home to help 3 days a week, I just quit because we had been doing it for 4 years and we needed just our own family back. We are adoptive parents too, so I felt like I should have been better bringing others in. It's not the same. Don't be afraid to change things up or ask for help again. It's your family, you get to decide what to do.

As someone who's traveled in Europe, I found that I was able to adjust easier in places where most people spoke English. It was only after I had experienced European countries where people spoke English that I branched off to other places. It may also be better if you searched for towns that had more public transport. While the tiny French village looks adorable, opting for somewhat more of a suburb in the next country you go to may be better - easier access to whatever city you are near and other areas to explore, and if there's an issue with your car then you can still get out with the kids. Best wishes in whatever you and Mike decide is right for your family

Pickle SlimeZ So sorry to hear that you don't have a happy and loving family. I know all too well what that is like (I have had a very abusive father my entire childhood and adult life). Just know that someday you will get the chance to create the loving family that you've always longed for! People like us have the example of what NOT to do, which is very valuable knowledge to have, and is a great tool that we can use to better our lives. Keep your head up, and hold onto the faith that God WILL provide you with the life and family you've always wanted someday! In the meantime, focus on transforming all of the hurt and pain you've experienced into strength and perseverance! God bless you! 💗🙏

As a former Au Pair I had the feeling that it wouldn't work out with Sarah just because of your "free" lifestyle. Nevertheless I think it was a good experience for you and for Sarah as well. I hope she finds another family in France :) The culture shock will go away, planing is a good idea, it's what I did during my year abroad as well. Try and stay busy and meet some local people. That'll help with everything being so different than the US. I'd also recommend you guys though to come to more "open-minded" countries to get a start in the beginning. Ireland will be a whole other experience than France. Not trying to offend any French people here, but it's even hard for a European in France to get in contact with other people.

A lot of negative comments going here. You guys seem fine...you're still settling in and getting used to going from hustle and bustle of NYC to quaint countryside of France. It's going to be hard and I'm sure you knew that, which is why we see things like you taking French language lessons. I don't sense any regret in your goals and it seems like you understand that it's going to be difficult, but worth it. Sarah will be fine. Sometimes it's just not a good fit. It wouldn't be good for anyone if you had her stay with things not feeling right. It's your choice, ultimately, it was a job. I'm sure she will find a great job and maybe things worked out for the best. I bet years from now she will be thankful for the opportunity and some really good experiences came from it, even though she didn't remain your Nanny. Please don't let all of these negative comments discourage you.

I don't get what the issues are. Sure you can't speak the language but there are apps to cross that barrier. Once you get the van you can get away and start exploring again. If you can't find an English speaking LDS church, can't you homechurch? Many people do that when needed. I wonder why having Sarah in the house hindered your privacy. Are you trying to hide something? I just don't get all the excitement about going overseas dying out so incredibly quickly.

We are only watching a brief snippet of their lives and they are real and dont always show just all the perfect and happy times, life is about ups and downs, doesnt mean something is "wrong" its just the way life is. Just because they have a down moment doesnt mean it represents them every day all day. Think about how much time is in an edited video and thats all we are seeing of their day and lives, we dont have the big picture, all we can do is make assumptions based on how we view life and struggle. Easy for us all to make judgements sitting watching.

Well it's definitely a major life change for them and they haven't traveled globally basically at all previously (I think they mentioned in one of their videos they only had been to China for the adoption) so it's definitely something new to them. Moreover, they are living in a rural area so it is a bit harder, as the locals might not be that welcoming or used to tourists at all than living in a major city like Paris. And there are definitely some major differences between the US and France, which they might have not known about or are just things they are not used to in their everyday life. Culture shock or feeling homesick is a very normal feeling while moving abroad or traveling globally for an extended period of time, so there's honestly nothing to be surprised about, but it gets better over time and they will get more used to their new life. Having adventures every day and being able to travel as much as they do is fun, but it's also exhausting and has its disadvantages - I think it's a wonderful thing that they share their feelings with us and portray both the ups and downs of their travels. And to talk about Sarah - I think it was a combination of culture shock/ getting used to the global travel and a stranger living in their house. It's not that much about them having something to hide than just adding another adult, who you previously don't know, to your family. A family has their own traditions and habits (they have their own thoughts on how they want their kids to be raised, they are religious, they have their own daily routine etc) and if there's someone in the family who is not used to them, it might cause problems.
