It is fun. I started making my own clothes when I was 8. The satisfaction comes when someone asks where did you buy your clothes and you can answer "I made this" and it is completely unique and it fits, unlike many off-the-peg clothes which just don't fit. I figure if I have to adjust store bought clothes to fit I might as well just make the garment from material I want and the pattern I like.

Your Laura Ashley dress is the pattern I had made up for my 3 bridesmaids in April 1994, except the girls had short sleeves and the dress was in claret. So 1994. Thank you for the memories.

I loved this video Janelle, I went and had a look at my own sewing journal after watching this and I have made 20 items in 2021. A variety of dresses, tops, trousers, a long night dress and coat. My journal is so useful as I keep notes so that when I make the pattern again I know what adjustments I need to make or ideas to hack it next time alongside the fabric I used. Happy sewing in 2022 ✂️🧵 x

This was such a satisfying video to watch, the colour palette of your wardrobe is amazing! It's a shame you didn't love your longer gingham dress, but I'm so glad you shared this with us, sometimes sewing projects don't work out how I hope and it's good to know I'm not the only one. I'm currently working on a perfect everyday dress too with your Rosa pattern. Excited to see what you come up with in 2022 x

7:59, 8:47-Vintage mccall's 7974, 9:33 Hannah wrap skirt in pink & white with ruffle, 10:32 longer Hannah wrap skirt, 11:10 Daisy puff sleeve dress, 12:21 grey 1/2 puff sleeve, long sleeved, long dress, 12:58 altered vintage pattern with vintage fabric, 13:37 Laurs Ashley 4319 MaCall's vintage pattern in gingham-(I absolutely love this one!), 14:43 black & white gingham baby doll is also totally adorable-15:20 the gingham gathered waist long skirt, I LOVE. I would LOVE to see that slit into Japanese hakama pants, with a simple whote tailored 3/4 sleeve with a vest. I think that would be beautiful. Hakama pants are soooo comfy. They look lile a long skirt, very sophisticated, but are not user friendly, and can be made like a wrap skirt at the waist. Idk if you have anything similar, might be a long gaucho pair of slacks. But being my first time ever seeing any of your videos or anything you've made I'm blown away and totally needing to push myself to get into my file cabinet as I have a row of vintage patterns in it and lots of material to start with. That vintage dress and the beginning that you weren't very impressed with was very flattering on your figure and reminded me of the 1940s or something it was just absolutely adorable. It was one of my absolute favorites. Amd the popcorn sweater was totally cute! I could see that in a milky lt pink or red, or white(to go with more bottoms and dresses. My mind is offically blown and I am thrilled you were a suggestion in my opening you tube feed. I camt wait to try some of these things and get those 2 patterns and get going. You have totally motivated me ! I will have to email you when I have gotten moved and gotten going on some things. Thank you for being such an inspiration. You are bmvery blessed and gifted by God and thabk you so much for sharing your blessings snd inspiring others, like me. May God bless and watch over you now and always 🙏❤️

Your me-made wardrobe looks amazing! I think that the gingham dress from the vintage pattern (the one that you didn’t like how it turned out) could make a super cute jumpsuit! That way the seam on the middle will integrate to the design. Otherwise, I think that getting enough fabric to remake that panel from the front without the seam is an option too, and fabric from the old panel cam be recycled into smaller projects.
@TheDovesNest2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s beautiful on you and maybe even something as getting rid of the pockets for a smoother silhouette would help. (Getting rid of pockets is so sad, so I k ow you might not want to do that)
@teresacarle2942 жыл бұрын
@@TheDovesNest 💯% agree with you both. #️⃣1️⃣ Janelle's 2021 Me-Made wardrobe is impressive. #️⃣2️⃣Even the vintage plaid garment looks lovely on her. 🤍Do love pockets, but 🤔 think that dress would flow beautifully over her darling figure without them. 🧐Plus, I would consider adding a center (or side split). 🤍Do love, love, love a tea length dress. It's my jam, but this length can🪓 chop us off😱. It can make almost anyone seem "stumpy🪵", esp. like me when you don't wear heels👠 to help off-set that impression. Not petite like Janelle, but having a low waist on an hourglass⏳ figure does give the unfortunate impression my torso is ⬆️longer⬇️ while my legs are ➡️shorter⬅️. Tea length dresses only make that more obvious🤣. A split in the skirt with a 👀peek-a-boo glimpse of leg counteracts that message. It visually fools the eye👁️👁️ into thinking the legs go on & on above the split too. This simple trick elongates↕️ the overall vertical line. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

Hard to choose a fave, but oh my goodness, that blouse from a vintage table cloth! Such mastery in the way you worked with the pattern of the cloth. So pretty. And so inspiring. There are so many vintage tablecloths, but so many have a flaw here or there. But in a project like this, I think you could avoid those spots if you plan it all out carefully.

Thanks for all your videos Janelle, I found you while looking for how to make a scrunchie of all things, and then the KZbin algorithm has kept throwing more videos at me...I've always said I don't make clothes... I was going to make the daisy dress after seeing that pattern, but decided it's not really my style, but the Rosa Dress is. So yesterday I bought the Rosa Dress pattern, tiled it (and half way through emailed my local print shop to see if they print A0 size so in future I NEVER have to do that again!) and made a toile of the bodice... and about to cut into my fabric!!!

How did it turn out?
@jollyfish842 жыл бұрын
@@gregariagirl Really good! I took my time, cut carefully, pinned making sure everything was the right way around and didn't have to unpick anything other than my gathering! I ended up with a dress I can actually wear in public and I've even splurged on some rather nice fabric that I'm now considering one with sleeves! I've got a really long torso so I'll probably drop the waist a bit next time and the neckline is a bit high, but these are things you learn and I'll make some adjustments next time!

I think the two dresses you are comparing at 13:20 are both beautiful! The longer ones colour isn’t as flattering on you and your colouring, and it’s a tad too long for your frame, it could be hemmed a couple inches shorter for a better length on you. The second shorter dress you are talking about, the colour and length flatter you better. By no means is the longer one bad! It’s beautiful too! And the colour isn’t bad either! Just that the second dress compliments you a little more which may be why you find you like it more. I love all the clothes you make. So gorgeous.
@margauxduprez64602 жыл бұрын
I think my favourite would be the McCall's picnic dress that you made recently. It is so flattering and I love the pattern. For the gingham dress that you don't like that much, the front seam makes me think that it could look good as a jumpsuit but I don't know if this is your style. Otherwise, you could turn it into a blouse with a ruffle at the bottom? Happy new year and I love your videos!
