I love how you said that you hoped this video made us not want to buy what's in your house but declutter our own. Your videos ALWAYS make me go clean something out and, more importantly, keep me from bringing more in. It's not about the things, but the whole feeling! Thanks for sharing!

Your home is wonderfully simple. I love it. I'm 60, living in my 35th house. My husband is now retired from the military but over those years we never stayed in one house long. I realized early on that the "dream home" wasn't something I'd have necessarily. I've realized that a "dream home" to me wasn't the physical home but the emotional home. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us. You're an inspiration to me.

Best home tour ever! You have given me strength to lower our toys even more for my 1 toddler and to stop looking for new toys alot. Also you were one of/the 1st person to show me minimalism and peace of Christianity and I am currently trying to practice both now after seeing such peaceful homes and families like yours. I'm not super crunchy with no TV or scratch made food everyday but I'm able to make the videos fit for my family ❤ Thank you

@madisungray I've been making better choices but we did change 2 things. My spouse got his own vehicle since we have alot of appts and I'm selling our giant sectional that covers the living room to a smaller one so I can enjoy the space with my toddler when indoors since he barely stays in his room. Other than that I've been more content and less shopping 😅

This is so helpful. By some really insane circumstances, COVID, and caring for my mother before she passed, we ended up in our dream home. I love our location and life, but the clutter keeps some major joy at bay. I feel so stuck in the mess, and am trying to make a dent in it day by day. Thank you for this reminder. (Also a reminder that the dream house doesn’t fix everything).

Makes me feel so much better and it's why you're one of the few people I follow for minimalist inspiration. Would love to hear more about your thoughts on homeschool supplies. That is one of my areas of difficulty when it comes to decluttering. The stress of which is exacerbated by living in a 700sqft home. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this updated video, Ive been rewatching your older videos for inspiration. I love the peace and calmness in your video, and showing what is important (or not). Looking forward to your future updated wardrobe video, Ive been decluttering my wardrobe this past week, and just packed away my summer clothes. So just have my 10 winter items hanging, it makes such a difference, to seeing the space and able to breathe, I need to declutter more of what I’ve packed away.

Madi • some of the statements you made in this video echo where I am currently. I often struggle to “live life” and enjoy until I feel like my home is in a perfect state. I often rid items just to go out and look for the “perfect” things and then wonder why my house is still cluttered. And thank you for the reminder that I don’t need to look for things to buy that I see in your home rather just declutter mine. Life starts now, today with where I am and I get to enjoy the process with my kids and husband. It’s crazy to me how this can be a struggle and I need reminding often.

To anyone watching, I promise there’s no such thing as a dream house. There may be houses you like better or aspects you like better, but no matter where you live, you’ll find stuff you don’t like or want to change. I’ve moved lots of times, I finally own now, and I’m in the nicest home I’m ever lived, and there are still things I’d love different. Making your current space a home instead of a house is the best thing you can do instead of wishing for the next place.

I loved that you mentioned professional organizing. I have always thought this was the path I was suppose to take in life. I've always been an organized and tidy person. Even growing up. I made my bed and tidied my bathroom everyday before school. I was a dream child for my mother. Now that I live a more minimalist lifestyle, I cringe at the thought of people hiring professional organizers to come organize their crap. I've been asked many many many times from friends to help them organize but I just cant! I strongly feel that minimalism would benefit every single human being on this earth. YUP I said it!

I love your videos! I will write more tomorrow on my laptop over my phone! I rent too and I am in San Francisco as I have rent control! I have a 600 square foot studio apartment on the top floor with an additional great 12’ outdoor deck outback of my kitchen! I have the back door open with an animal screen hanging with the middle magnets to the floor of the outside to keep bugs out. Yes, I live alone, my choice and I am 67 and have lived here for 20 years! I have an amazing view of all of Pacific Heights, a tall full tree outside reaching up here with hummingbirds and finches!! If I could slice my apartment off the top of my building and put it on a flatbed truck and move it to land in a forest with a river flowing in front (I need water near by like I have now, 2 minutes from the GG Bridge/bay) it would be a dream! I would have my deck outside, fire pit, grass to ground in etc! I think your family could really do a Tiny House all one floor and have a loft for storage with a sliding pocket ladder to keep the kids from climbing up! Check out these amazing homes!! I am so addicted to watching these videos! If you can afford a spot of land you can have a custom made one for a lot less than buying an actual house! Check out Tiny Homes on KZbin. Not 300’ for a family of 5 and a dog but you can customize the square footage!! Even at a 1,000 square feet on a plot of land is better priced than buying a convential house!! I will send you the ones I watch tomorrow. ❤🌹

Very nice. I can relate about the being content with the home even if it is not perfect and not really somewhere you want to still live in. I have been in the same home for sixteen years and we moved in here when I was pregnant with our second child. It is a two bedroom apartment in a two family house. Now we have three children and it is getting cramped as it is small as it is. I love my home but I am ready to move on. I am content, but didn't think we'd be here this long. Anyway, I loved your video and found it fun.

I can relate. Our house is outdated-not terribly but it is an older home from the 1960’s, so it could use some updates. I’ve really had to work on contentment especially seeing such beautiful homes online and even friends houses! But the reality is, it works for our family and our mortgage is pretty low compared to others with newer homes! So we are very blessed.

We rent too and I’m always having to stop myself from buying things to make the house what I want, cause honestly if the foundation isn’t your style no amount of stuff will change that, well for me personally. You just end up frustrated all the time and dragging to the next place that looks different with stuff that doesn’t fit in the new place😅 so we also keep the minimal approach too😊. Btw we also have our bed up next to the wall😅 we have teenagers so they get the bigger rooms 🤭. You’re not alone, honestly owning a home seems to be fading away further, we save for a deposit and then house prices increase so we save more 🤦♀️ constant cycle.

When you live in a « no winter country » I think it’s easier to play outside… In Canada, we have a cold winter and a lot of snow. We need way more clothes!!!!!!
@extrememinimalistparentАй бұрын
There IS an extreme minimalist lady called ExtremeMinimalistInCanada that goes into detail about her wardrobe/home and what she did with her young kids. I think it entirely depends on the type of clothing you own, if you have an outside job, if you have a car or live real close to decent transport and if you just have 5 thin socks of 2 thick socks etc.
@catherineaube2367Ай бұрын
@ you’re absolutely right! Being minimalist with 4 kids here is a huge challenge because, in winter only, they each need 2 snow pants (one is always wet…), 2 pairs of mittens (school requirement), etc. Our wardrobe is empty on summer and full on winter. And I don’t talk about sport equipment (skating, skiing, etc.). But we love winter and we enjoy it every day we can.
@extrememinimalistparentАй бұрын
@catherineaube2367 so maybe don't 'go extreme' in those areas and try in other places. Like, cooking for example. Or bath products. Or toys. Or digitally. Some might joke I hoard kids books for my one kiddo but eh. It's better than just giving him the television or games on a screen all day. I've been around a lot and most extreme minimalists either have a car, live in a warmer climate or are fine with lots of screen time.

Classic or even the one after that of Thomas The Tank Enginge. Their scenes are between 3 and 7 secs long compared to 1-3 with newer shows. BLUEY is quick but reliably relatable and enjoyable for parents. Peppa Pig books are simple and great, but the show isn't so much. They are the only things my toddler watches on DVD on a normal TV because we are trying to reduce KZbin and steaming use.

Very comfortable and pretty home. Your home has about the same amount of furnishings, decor etc as my home. I don’t consider our homes as minimalist. Its the average amount for a family. When l think of the concept of minimalism it is the essentials in belongings. Spartan with furniture, decor, clothing. I feel like 90% of 'minimalist' content creators just whack that word in by justification - 'minimalism is a spectrum' mantra.
