True. My husband passed away suddenly on May 8th. It has been eye opening to realize that all this stuff doesn't matter. It is people in our lives that matter. I want to get rid of the stuff that is smothering our home, but my daughter wants to hold on to everything including anything that has to do with him. It has been difficult, but we will get through this together.

I am so sorry for your loss, I went through this same exact thing when my dad died with my mom. Her way of coping was getting rid of everything and I needed to keep my dads things because I didnt want to feel like he was being erased. Even though it was an extremely difficult time, my mom and I grew much closer and I gained a lot more empathy. Its been 5 years, I wish I could say things get easier but I think we just become better at coping.

My deepest condolences. When my mom passed, she had so much. She was sentimental, loved big furniture, and garage sales... I'm an only child, so I got it ALL. I allowed the guilt to make me keep it all for about 5 years. Slowly, I've pared it down to a few of the small things. I realized I didn't have to keep EVERYTHING to keep her from "disappearing". Same with my hubby; I kept his things for about 3 years, then realized it was silly to keep his clothes and such when they could be donated. I've kept the last watch I gave him, 2 crystals he gave me, and our rings... that's enough for me now. The pain of missing them never goes away, but gradually, we can remember and tell stories that make us laugh and happy, rather than wanting to cry every time.

An outdoor space makes such a difference for apartment/condo living...and one as large as yours with a view of the mountains, even better! That outdoor green space and pool looks like a perfect spot for rest and reflection. The older I get, the more I come to understand that with persistence, patience, and faith, things seem to have a way of coming together when and how they should. This was so peaceful! Your new home is far from being cold at all. Every video you make inspires me in some way. This one made me reflect on my food and cooking habits and what I nourish myself with. You have a very simple cooking and eating routine with only fresh ingredients and only one supplement yet you are the picture of health and vitality. I on the other hand was just putting away my Costco “haul” into the freezer and cupboards which are pretty full already and thinking I buy all this food but then am too tired to prepare and cook it at the end of the day and end up ordering in often and taking a slew of supplements because I am not nourishing my body the way I should. Makes me think there is definitely something very wrong with this picture. My motto this year has been “Back to Basics” and it looks like I have to apply that to my cooking and eating habits pronto.

I honestly never realized how much things I truly have. I have a fully furnished home for 7 people plus A LOT of junk! I have a closet FULL of things I'll never use or wear! I just moved into my own place for the first time after marriage, kids, grandkids... multi-generational living. I started with the FULL double closet and bins of clothes, the bins of shoes, and bins of purses/wallets. I definitely did not pare down to your level, but it felt so great to get down to 3 dresses, 3 pairs of pants, 3 pairs of shorts, 12 tank tops, 5 dress shirts (one for each day of the week when I'm working). I got rid of about 12-15 pairs of shoes, and I kept 2 purses, 1 clutch and 2 wallets... just cuz I do like change on occasion. I can't be right on the floor due to back, hip, and shoulder issues... and my immense dislike (fear) of bugs. Therefore, I do have a bedframe and a chaise lounge for reading. I'm an only child, so when my (hoarding) mom passed away, I inherited ALL of THAT. I finally have the ability to go through the paperwork to see what needs to be kept... It's definitely a work in progress, and every time I load up the garbage & recycling bins and boxes of things to donate, the happier I am with my space.

I turned 50 this year and am a bit depressed about the onset of arthritis in my thumb, pain in the ball of my foot, a weird knot that popped up on my hand as I still feel young. Told my husband if you have just 1 wish it must be for good health bc without that nothing else matters or is attainable not money, not possessions. People always wish to win the lottery but illness doesn’t discriminate. So the anxiety it’s causing me leads me to focus on what I can control, clutter to calm my mind.

Calming your mind will improve your health. And when things show up in your body, it’s never an accident or your body failing: your body is communicating to you. You may like the books “becoming supernatural” by Joe Dispenza and “the body keeps the score”. I also talk about this in my most recent video “how I stay fit at forty”. What you eat and moving your body are super important, but inner energy work is the most important. Healing is in your hands 🙏🏻✨

@@ExploravoreWow! Thanks for the advice. I lost 30 lbs and went from being diabetic to pre diabetic. Rice is a huge staple in Pacific Islander cuisine. ☹️ So I switched to cauliflower rice. Lots of veggies. Still working on the last 30. I take daily b12 supplement bc I don’t eat enough red meat dr said. Just saw your short on what you eat in a day. Enjoying your vegan suggestions. I love animals. My friends have had pet pig, chicken, even a mouse and they’re highly intelligent. Most people don’t even realize. Will check the book out. Thank you for the advice.

@mamabirdie734 carbohydrates do not cause diabetes- high fat does. Higher dietary fat causes insulin resistance which then prevents glucose from being absorbed into the cells and then causing the high blood sugar. Check out the works by Dr Neal Barnard and the Physician’s Committee for responsible medicine- they are REVERSING AND CURING type 2 diabetes by putting people on a HIGH CARB lower fat plant based diet. You can eat all the rice you want ;)

I’d like to add my appreciation, as others have done here, for your video tour of your new apartment. So pleased for you that you found such a lovely place. The decor is calming and warm, and there is a lovely serene feel to the place. The outdoor patio is a great extra. Ironically, you have so much storage, but need so little! What I particularly like about the video is that in every room, every object has a purpose (functional and/or decorative). You are presenting a sort of baseline of possessions that someone would need for a comfortable life. Most people would want more, (I’m too old to sit on the floor 😂) but that baseline provides a starting point for someone to add in the things they need or want, and hopefully giving them the same careful consideration as you have done. I always get so excited when i get a notification that you have uploaded a new video. I know it's going to be calming and inspiring. I absolutely love your new place. There is nothing cold about it, but instead, i get such cozy, warm, and peaceful vibes. I have a salt lamp in my living room and never thought to put it in my bedroom. Gonna do that now. My bedroom is almost furniture free except for a little table next to my bed, which is home to my Cpap machine, which is the bane of my existence 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also the view from your place is so breath taking❤

To save on power & wear & tare on frig/freezer its recommended to add something to your freezer either bags of ice or containers of water to freeze. If anyone is interested

Would that apply to the freezer part? Isn't the idea about filling it so that when you open the door the space isn't quickly filled with warn air which the machine has to work hard to cool down again. Since she has nothing in the freezer anyway, she probably rarely opens it.

I love your new home. I am not extreme by any means but I know I could live like this as I have before. Too many things have crept in but I am working on it. This space is so warm and pleasing to the eye. I would never consider it cold and un inviting. It is so true about letting objects shine like your beautiful wooden cutting board and fruit bowl. @@Exploravore I have started awhile back. It's a process for sure. I once got rid of lots of my possessions and used a storage unit for the rest, ended my lease and quit my job all in preparation to backpack in Europe. It left great and freeing to spend the last night in my apartment with nothing more than my small backpack, sleeping bag, pad and small compact tent. The apartment empty and sleeping on the floor before heading out on my adventure was freeing and I felt light. I did not want to come back but had to three months later.
