I've read around 50 books during quarantine (March-July). The latest ones were my longtime favorites, Legend series by Marie Lu. I read the series back in 2014, but I decided to reread because I just found out that the newest book (Rebel) came out last year. Anyway it's always a joy to see you talking about books! And I'm definitely getting myself a copy of Pachinko soon. xo

I bought the book, "Pachinko" after watching your video. I finished reading so fast! That't one of the best books I've ever read. In Japan, we learn about Japanese occupation of Korea in a history class, but it's not enough for students to feel and understand what it really is. I hope all the Japanese people read this book. Looking forward to watching more of your book recommendations soon again. Thank you.

Christy, I just wanted to say how thankful I am that I discovered your channel, your videos are so calming, you have inspires me to read again! I always loved to read, but as we get older, and due to so many responsibilities, we live aside from what brings us joy. I recently adjusted my morning routine by waking up an hour early and devoting that hour reading a book! I am currently reading the Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo, and I love it! Thank you, Christy, for all the wonderful recommendations, and I can't wait to start reading Pachinko!

Beautiful video ^^ I love Coraline and I also read Girl, Woman, Other this month and talked about it in my wrap up ^_^ I was shocked at how it was woven together in the end, was not expecting that! Absolutely loved it! I adore Studio Ghibli but I've yet to read Howls moving castle! I own that and it's sequel though, so I'm hoping to do a bit of a reading vlog for it

Yessss I love the Sundays when you're updating! It doesn't feel like a proper Sunday without new stuff from you! Because of your recent videos, I will read Pachinko soon. I still have to look for a German version, if I cannot find any, I will just go with the English one. 😊 And also... Congratulations, your subscribers are increasing so fast in the past time! Nearly 75k, it's absolutely amazing and I'm so happy for you! 💛 I found a song on Soundcloud that I heard in one of your drawing videos back in 2017 for the first time. I still remember how I wrote my first English term paper in January 2018 while listening to that... Geez, time is a crazy thing! Keep creating such beautiful and cozy content, dear Christy! ❤️

I recently finished Pachinko too, after starting it when I heard about it from your last vlog. Really loved it, historical fiction is always among my favourite genres. Loved Sunja and Kyunghee's characters, they were so inspirational! I guess my small nitpick with the book is that I felt the last third (or like the last fourth?) of the book in my opinion weren't as gripping and strong as the first two sections of the book. Definitely the periods from like 1910-1950 had me on the edge of my seat, the colonial setting was so intensely interesting. Anyways, thanks for the recommendation! I definitely gobbled up this book like I haven't done in quite some time, loved getting back into reading a lot.

I am just so curious. Like how to do you juggle work, reading books, playing animal crossing and vlogging all together?! I am so amazed because I have to sacrifice my reading time because I am just so stressed at work and I end up playing my switch instead. I just love love love watching your channel because it just inspires me to read more and discover more. ❤️ Please please please tell me your secret how do you juggle it all?, 😁🙏
@christy-anne-jones4 жыл бұрын
I juggle it very poorly 😭😭 It's why a lot of the time I upload KZbin videos every second week rather than every week. I try really hard to upload every week, but it's really challenging for me because I work a pretty involved job. I also try to write every day, which doesn't always work out (bc... it current state of the world has taken a massive toll on my stress levels...) BUT I can tell you that the secret to reading a lot is audio books. I love them. I listen to them while I walk, while I travel to work and on my lunch break. This allows me to read way more. I use Libby a lot, which is a library app which you can use to borrow audio books for free (if you have a library card). Hope this was useful. Don't put to much pressure on yourself. Work can be incredibly stressful and you need to look after your mental and physical health. 9-to-5s take a MASSIVE toll. Also, don't ever feel guilty for playing video games; they're just as valuable as reading or any other hobby. Take care. Hope your work gets less stressful 💛💛

@Christy Anne Jones this is such a honest, compassionate and helpful answer! This is the message I didn't know I needed today. 💛 I've recently begun to play videogames and they're a great help to my mental health, but with a 9-5, a slight obsession with cleaning the house and an overall lack in organisation I literally have to plan my day around those 20 minutes of play. Moreover, I've been feeling like a failure for not doing more with my time. But as you said these are unusual times and your overall message of compassion and kindness to oneself is crucial right now! Thank you Christy and thank you Michelle for asking the question I wish I had asked!! 🌻

@christy-anne-jones4 жыл бұрын
hahaha that's a fair assessment! I think if anyone tried to lug it in their bag, they might pull a muscle in their shoulder... it took me a little to get into the story, but if you push past the start, it's very much worth it! Hope you like it 💛😊

Pachinko is the only one of the your bunch that I have read, largely because we like varying genres, but I have to agree Pachinko is a wonderful book. I’ve just started another inter generational slash historical book, The Eighth Life by Nino Haratischvili. It’s too early for me to make comment, but at 944 pages, I have plenty of time. 😀💛Deb

How long does it take you to read each book? And how many books do you read/listen to at one time?
@christy-anne-jones4 жыл бұрын
Priory took me maybe three or four weeks? Pachinko was like three weeks, because I put it down for a week and a half. Physical books take me a lot longer. On the other hand, I listen to audio books constantly. (Probably an hour or so per day because I listen to them on my commute and while I walk). That's pretty much how I read! I am a big audio book fan haha 💛😊
