Boring is a perfectly valid criticism of a film or TV series. There's a fine line between slow burn and stagnation and I think it can be even more of an issue with TV, because to sit through an episode where absolutely nothing meaningful happens really makes you feel like you've wasted your time.

The 13 days thing is brilliant, love to hear your thoughts on new stuff, and this balance (and the spooky number and reversal of the 31) just makes it work for me. Also better to have more focus, both in the suggestions and the videos themselves. And, you survive! Which was a bit of a concern previously... seemed to be taking a lot out of you. This is, for me, just all-round better!

Me too! And I was allowed to watch almost all horror, from the time I was just a small child, too. I adored everything horror growing up (tv, movies, books, comics, etc), but only a few horror movies stand out to me as ones that terrified me as a child. For some reason Burnt Offerings is on that list....particularly the ending. Scared the pants off me as a kid! Tried to show it to my daughter though, when she was about 10, and she laughed so hard at me. Lol. Go figure. 😆

Congratulations on breaking 60k. I'm sorry I missed your live stream. I think the new October format will be good. Possibly giving you a chance to make deeper videos without being so exhausting for you. I've already submitted my suggestions. I'm pretty sure you haven't seen any of them, but I'm sorry if I missed something. I probably only average five or so movies a month. I really need to try to make more time for some good viewing.

Oh Emma, I wish you would have finished season 2 of Dirty John. The beginning is a little slow, but towards last few episodes, the unraveling that Betty goes through, was portrayed so brilliantly by Amanda Peet. I hope she's a frontrunner for next year's Emmy's/Golden Globes (didn't make this year's cutoff). She gave the performance of the year (also the recaps on Vulture.com made me appreciate the show and story even more!). LOVED your recommendations. I've wrote down a bunch that I need to see. You're amazing!

I have enjoyed 31 Days for a few years now and have gotten great recommendations from you. I'm sad it won't be 31 days, but I'll still take 13 :) Thank you for still having the same format. I've gotta start thinking about my 3 suggestions. Before COVID, I used to watch one or two movies almost every night. Then we were tasked with working from home and you would think that I would have had more time on my hands to watch more movies because I didn't have to drive to and from work. Wrong. For some reason, I'm only averaging a couple movies a week. I have hundreds of movies on my watchlist on different streaming services and I have approximately 120 physical DVDs and Blu-rays that I've collected that I still need to watch. I am so far behind!

So far I've logged 20 movies this month. Right now it's 9 in the morning so I've got a full day to go still. Been watching a lot of movies since I finished binging all seasons of Better Call Saul on Netflix. I love Better Call Saul. Dark - Wow. I was blown away by how well made this German series was. I'm from The Netherlands and the atmosphere and the town of Winden reminded me so much of places here. Plus, the story! One of the best depictions of time travel imo. Now I'm going to go to your suggestion form and onto your Letterboxd to see which films to suggest. Have a great day, Emma!

I think I am averaging about 28 films a month, but that is all rentals and streaming. I haven't been to an actual movie theater since March. Here is my list of horror thrillers I saw this month. I know the scores look low, but it is still so much fun to heckle these classic schlock films: JU-ON: ORIGINS Season 1 (2020) score 6/10 DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT (1973) score 3/10 - title alone I had to see it EVOLUTION (2015) score 4/10 SEVERANCE (2006) score 5/10 ATOM AGE VAMPIRE (1960) score 2/10 KING DINOSAUR (1955) score 2/10 - low-budget schlock, but absolute gold to poke fun at. Best "heckling material" film I have seen in over a year. SHARKTOPUS VS. PTERACUDA (2014) score 3/10 CRUSH (2013) score 5/10 DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT 2 (2015) score 3/10 - son of the original film's director made a sequel as a tribute to his dad. DARIO ARGENTO'S DRACULA 3-D (2012) score 3/10 - may be Argento's worst film ever. AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE EVIL ESCAPES (1989) score 5/10 BE MY CAT: A FILM FOR ANNE (2015) score 3/10

I had very mixed thoughts on American Satan. I wanted it to be so much better than it was because I am really into that kind of scene/style/music. And the trailer looked amazing and I was really excited to see it. I thought it was very much a cliche rock story, which kind of surprised me because the director runs Sumerian Records and you'd think he'd be more interested in squashing stereotypes. It had the potential to be a really great rock opera type movie but failed ultimately. I gave it another shot recently and decided it's a satire. And with that knowledge, it's much more enjoyable. But I'm probably giving it more credit than it deserves. 😂 There is a continuation coming out as a series so I'm interested to see if they can further develop the story and characters given the longer time allowance.

If you haven't read The Exorcist book, please do so. I would love to get your opinion. I loved the book. It was quite beautiful. It's an easy read and there are things in the book that aren't in the movie. Hopefully you have time to read this. Thanks for your reviews. I always enjoy them.

Im sorry I couldn’t figure out how to directly message Spooky Astronauts. So I thought I’ll leave a comment. I’d really love to see you do a review for the infamous Turkey horror movie Siccin. Which has 6 parts. Full movies with Eng subtitles available on youtube. Its genuinely a very horrifying movie unlike anything we’ve seen. And doing a review for that I think Siccin really deserves it. Some movies by the same filmmakers of Siccin are on NetFlix as well though Siccin ain’t on it. So please please! This is a huge request. Most of westerners doesn’t really know about this amazing one and it would be awesome for an exposure for Siccin from a review from you. Im sure u know the movie I guess. If not, please do watch. 🙏🏼

39 films is so much for me haha, the most I've watched in a month is 37 and I average about 20 per month usually. I would LOVE to have enough time to watch so much!

I’m with you, I really enjoyed season one of Dirty John and was pretty pumped for season two but it was so drawn out and boring! Now I did watch it all because my sister wanted to binge it and I wanted to sit on the couch lol but it’s not worth watching , they could have told this story in 90mins and made a good day time film ha

I thought "Random Acts of Violence" was more about how we are so fascinated by true crime stuff and sometimes forget that there are real victims. I actually really loved that movie, except for the ending.

First, thank you for recommending Letterboxd! The last 6 months I've watched 200 movies. About 33 per month. But I don't log the ones that I don't finish.

Yeah!!!!!!!!! 31 Days of Horror!!!!!! :-) Just suggested my 3 titles to the party ;-) I started Lovecraft Country last mounth and like it very much...also refreshing that it differs from the book a bit. And I finished reading Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Ceasare yesterday. A great read if you like mid 90s teen horror (and I know you do ;-))

I never realized that I also always use the Australian pronounciation of "cemetery"...think that comes from the Siverchair song that was a great part of my youth :-D

If you don't mind my asking, how did you watch Cemetary Man? It doesn't appear to be streaming and the physical media seems to be long out of print. I saw it back in 2001 when I worked at Hollywood Video. I don't think I managed to buy myself a copy. Though now a days I'm all about selling off my DVDs and Blu Rays that I have on VOD or that are permanent parts of Studio streaming services like Disney+.
