Boring is a perfectly valid criticism of a film or TV series. There's a fine line between slow burn and stagnation and I think it can be even more of an issue with TV, because to sit through an episode where absolutely nothing meaningful happens really makes you feel like you've wasted your time.

The 13 days thing is brilliant, love to hear your thoughts on new stuff, and this balance (and the spooky number and reversal of the 31) just makes it work for me. Also better to have more focus, both in the suggestions and the videos themselves. And, you survive! Which was a bit of a concern previously... seemed to be taking a lot out of you. This is, for me, just all-round better!

Me too! And I was allowed to watch almost all horror, from the time I was just a small child, too. I adored everything horror growing up (tv, movies, books, comics, etc), but only a few horror movies stand out to me as ones that terrified me as a child. For some reason Burnt Offerings is on that list....particularly the ending. Scared the pants off me as a kid! Tried to show it to my daughter though, when she was about 10, and she laughed so hard at me. Lol. Go figure. 😆

Oh Emma, I wish you would have finished season 2 of Dirty John. The beginning is a little slow, but towards last few episodes, the unraveling that Betty goes through, was portrayed so brilliantly by Amanda Peet. I hope she's a frontrunner for next year's Emmy's/Golden Globes (didn't make this year's cutoff). She gave the performance of the year (also the recaps on Vulture.com made me appreciate the show and story even more!). LOVED your recommendations. I've wrote down a bunch that I need to see. I have enjoyed 31 Days for a few years now and have gotten great recommendations from you. I'm sad it won't be 31 days, but I'll still take 13 :) Thank you for still having the same format. I've gotta start thinking about my 3 suggestions. Before COVID, I used to watch one or two movies almost every night. Then we were tasked with working from home and you would think that I would have had more time on my hands to watch more movies because I didn't have to drive to and from work. Wrong. For some reason, I'm only averaging a couple movies a week. I have hundreds of movies on my watchlist on different streaming services and I have approximately 120 physical DVDs and Blu-rays that I've collected that I still need to watch. I am so far behind!

I think I am averaging about 28 films a month, but that is all rentals and streaming. I haven't been to an actual movie theater since March. Here is my list of horror thrillers I saw this month. I know the scores look low, but it is still so much fun to heckle these classic schlock films: JU-ON: ORIGINS Season 1 (2020) score 6/10 DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT (1973) score 3/10 - title alone I had to see it EVOLUTION (2015) score 4/10 SEVERANCE (2006) score 5/10 ATOM AGE VAMPIRE (1960) score 2/10 KING DINOSAUR (1955) score 2/10 - low-budget schlock, but absolute gold to poke fun at. Best "heckling material" film I have seen in over a year. SHARKTOPUS VS. PTERACUDA (2014) score 3/10 CRUSH (2013) score 5/10 DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT 2 (2015) score 3/10 - son of the original film's director made a sequel as a tribute to his dad. DARIO ARGENTO'S DRACULA 3-D (2012) score 3/10 - may be Argento's worst film ever. AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE EVIL ESCAPES (1989) score 5/10 BE MY CAT: A FILM FOR ANNE (2015) score 3/10

I had very mixed thoughts on American Satan. I wanted it to be so much better than it was because I am really into that kind of scene/style/music. And the trailer looked amazing and I was really excited to see it. I thought it was very much a cliche rock story, which kind of surprised me because the director runs Sumerian Records and you'd think he'd be more interested in squashing stereotypes. It had the potential to be a really great rock opera type movie but failed ultimately. I gave it another shot recently and decided it's a satire. And with that knowledge, it's much more enjoyable. But I'm probably giving it more credit than it deserves. 😂 There is a continuation coming out as a series so I'm interested to see if they can further develop the story and characters given the longer time allowance.

I think it has a way better ratio than other streaming services. The big services will have a small percentage of horror and only like 3 will be good. Shudder is all horror/sci-fi and I think 50 to 60% is decent and another 10 to 15% is good.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you watch Cemetary Man? It doesn't appear to be streaming and the physical media seems to be long out of print. I saw it back in 2001 when I worked at Hollywood Video. I don't think I managed to buy myself a copy. Though now a days I'm all about selling off my DVDs and Blu Rays that I have on VOD or that are permanent parts of Studio streaming services like Disney+.

My average for the last two years was around 17 films per month. This year, since the end of August, letterboxd counts an average of 18.6 but my holidays and October is still to come...
