23:38 I just watched 'Butterfly Kisses' on your recommendation and I quite liked it. I'm a massive found footage fan like yourself, so I'm definitely the target audience. I liked the 'film-within-a-film' meta angle and I think there was some actual thought and intelligence that went into this. I liked the lure a lot and found a few moments to be pretty effective (especially a couple of scenes near the end). I could have done without the cheap jump scares (only 2 of them, thankfully) and the thing that's really difficult to do with this sort of thing is make it all seem completely 'natural' i.e some of the performances and it doesn't always QUITE do that. But definitely worth a watch, so cheers as always 🙂

Cant wait to see Zone of Interest. One of the first really transformative movies that I ever saw was The Garden of the Finzi-Continis. It exposed me to the idea that the evil of the Holocaust was so "unbelievable" that there were actually people who thought it could not possibly be happening. My heart really broke for the family who couldn't seem to see it coming.

Thanks for the February recap, Emma. I am definitely intrigued about "Butterly Kisses", so that's on my watchlist now. I remember "Return To Oz" got a lot of bad press when it was released in 1985. I didn't see it until years later, but I was surprised how much I liked it. I was learning more about the Oz books at the time, so the darker elements were not so surprising to me. I will also admit that I love "The Village". I saw it when it came out and I thought it was one of the best love stories I had seen in years (don't know what that says about me). The first twist really caught me off guard, but then everything just falls into place. Here are a couple of highlights from my February viewings: DARIO ARGENTO: PANICO (2023) - score 8/10, great documentary on the Italian master. THE ZONE OF INTEREST (2023) - score 5/10, not a fun film to watch, though it had a Wes Anderson feel visually. LISA FRANKENSTEIN (2024) - score 7/10, good dark comedy, I enjoyed it more than I expected. BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (2024) - score 6/10, found it informative about his life, since I only knew about his music. SKINAMARINK (2022) - score 4/10, I knew it would be experimental, but I still felt let down by the old trick of "the plot is none of your business".

Em; you are one of the only YT creators that I have followed year in, year out since I first stumbled across you many moons ago (I think you'd only been going less than a year if memory serves?) and I just want to say in regards to your closing message, that you have COMPLETELY earned the position you have! You have consistently been a shining (and highly relatable/charismatic) light on the genre films that we all love so much and I am sure I speak for many of my fellow subs when I say that I couldn't be more happier for your success and long may it continue! So many countless good/great recommendations that I might not have heard of or chosen to see ('Cat Sick Blues' is one of my fave examples because I clearly must be a sick 'lil monkey too for liking it!) 😆 I will rock with you for as long as you continue to do this, you can be sure of that 😎🤘

I was not disappointed by 'The zone of interest', but it definitely was not as disturbing as expected. Fair, that's because I knew nothing about the movie except a German family living right next to a concentration camp, but still. The never ending soundscape of screaming and crying people and gunshots in the distance is haunting, though. The implications and the sheer comfort and forced ignorance of the characters in the foreground is what makes the movie stand out.

Clive Barker's Books of Blood are great, but Midnight Meat Train was pretty weak. A better film adapted from those short stories is Dread. It's not the greatest film ever, but it was better than what I expected, after having been disappointed by Meat Train. I also suspect that the writer of Martyrs lifted the idea from Barker's Dread, but this just a theory. It's more obvious if you read the short story, I think.
