I like pan fried radishes (or oven roasted). So tasty! With bacon or herbs like rosemary and thyme and garlic too. Good as a breakfast hash as well. Just thought I’d offer up some ideas in case anyone is stumped on what to do with all those radishes you’re growing in the garden! 👍🏻

Luke coming in with all the dad jokes, I am here for it. 😂 Radishes do make for a great cover crop or “living mulch “. Plus, they have pretty flowers which bring in beneficial insects. I used radishes in this way under my tomatoes this year.

I managed to only grow a single radish once. It was by mistake. I had some unknown seeds in my seed container , so I just planted them in my seedling tray and forgot about it until one day I used an app to tell me what it is. That’s when I found out it was a radish. 😂 I managed to grow that one radish under grow lights.

I have never grown wonderful radishes. This year, I added a bit of sand to my clay soil and added a good amount of worm castings. I had the best tasting, nice sized radishes that I have ever had. I did the same for fall minus the sand. Super. Now I need to learn to succession plant. I'll get there.😊

Thank you, Luke, for a wonderful video specifically on "radishes". I tried growing them earlier in the year but the crop did not turn out well. The seeds did not germinate well, maybe it was too cold in Jan/Feb? I live in CA, South Bay, Zone 9. I have the French radish seeds, cylinder shapes. My harvest was very small and the radishes were small too. After listening to your video, I will give it a try again, but this time in October. Love all your videos with great explanations on how to grow different vegetables. Wish me luck!

Radishes haven't been my favorite vegetable due to the flavor but I might give some a try that are a different variety and see if I like those better. It's good that they're easy to grow. I'm still deciding which things to start with to fill up my largest bed.

Container or inground planting? Because of underground critters I have to grow in containers. Glad you have the knack that I lack 😀

In spring I planted and harvested some radishes twice, just a few weeks apart, but from the second batch they wanted to go flower. I have let one go to flower and seed and now got about 10 times the seeds than I had started out with that small package. I planted a few of those seeds 3 week ago but it might was too hot for radishes. LOL, it is 95 degrees here in Omaha, Nebraska, today at the end of September.

I haven't been able to grow them to eat. They never fill out & just look like a colored stem when I pull them out. But right now, I have the most beautiful radish flowers growing. I must have missed a couple of them when I was pulling them out. They were an easter egg mix so the flowers are all different colors. Its crazy because they are 2-3 ft tall.

After your flowers go to seed, try the seed pods. I don't like most radishes. But, I plant them in-between slow germinating seeds so I know where the row is. Some of them went to seed & I found out that the fresh seed pods were pretty tasty. There's even a variety called Rats Tail that is grown for the seed pods.

I've tried several times to grow radishes and what i get is the supposed bulb (which doesn't form) is above ground and only the hair root is underground. So i just end up eating the leaves in a salad, which is definitely good, but I'd love to sometime have the bulb form too. Any suggestions?

Until my discovery this year, radishes and beets wouldn’t prosper. I found out that radishes and beets needed shade and once drip irrigation was installed-BINGO! Both were huge and not woody. They would never bulb up and I never had that problem until we moved here. Who would think in Z5, WI it would be too hot and dry to grow these two vegetables. I do know if they are kept dry and they do bulb they will be hot.

Well, after gardening for years, radishes are 1 of 3 root vegetables I can’t seem to grow successfully. Carrots and Beets being the other two. I always wind up getting just green tops, but not for carrots, the carrots just don’t grow for me. I’m going to write down these steps and try again next spring and fall.

That was the same in my garden until this year. I planted under 40% shade cloth and later installed drip irrigation and TaDa! I can grow beets and radishes. Consistent water and a bit of shade. Z5 in drought this year and a desert like microclimate.

@@susanlockinger749 and the weird thing is that I’ve been gardening here at this location for quite awhile and just figured it out this year 🙄. If that doesn’t work and you have good soil then try a different variety. Some varieties just don’t prosper. Also like Luke said, don’t overdo the nitrogen as they will have a lot of green tops and no bulb. It’s sandy here and moist soil allows nutrient uptake. If they do grow in hot dry soil they will be spicy. I had the crunchiest, sweetest radishes this year and was amazed.
