First day you are pouring large quantity of water which is required for next three days, won't this attract mold ?
@PrincetonMicrogreens3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the crop, but most crops absolutely not. Others like sunflower, it does. We do this for most our microgreens and have never had a problem. Also, you don’t need that much water. The water has no where to go when covering up the tray. As long as it isn’t too hot in your grow space, the water won’t evaporate out. No need to spray them daily.

Princeton Microgreens - what size are the clamshells you use for the radish? And do you use different size containers for pea shoots and sunflowers? I am looking to order these containers just need to know what size I should get for the different variety of microgreens.
@PrincetonMicrogreens3 жыл бұрын
We use the 24oz Containers for 2oz of microgreens (radish + sunflower). We use the 32oz Containers for 4oz of microgreens ( radish, sunflower, and pea). We only do 4oz for Pea since it is so big and heavy. 2oz would be too small. greenpaperproducts.com/princeton-microgreens.aspx

Great video! Why did you decide to use Coco Coir as your medium of choice?
@PrincetonMicrogreens4 жыл бұрын
A few reasons. 1. It's EXTREAMLY cheap and profitable. We get our Coco Coir for $10 a block and can do about 20+ trays. 2. It's very predictable due to the soil-like consistency. 3. Microgreens don't need many nutrients and even tend to get nutrient burn. Coir solves this problem as you can add in any smidge of nutrients you would like directly into the water. 4. Did I mention how cheap it is! :)

@PrincetonMicrogreens3 жыл бұрын
You should NOt reuse the coir however, the possibilities are endless on what to do with it. We put it in a big trash can and once a week I have I drop it at a local farm where they use it for chicken feed. After the chickens pick through it, they compost it and then later use it for various other outdoor purposes.

Very solid video, I have been on the fence about starting my own little house hold grow-op and really needed something like this to get me over the hump. I do have one question though, the mineral water mix you use... That's ocean water?
@PrincetonMicrogreens4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback. I've gone ahead and added the nutrients we use to the description on the video. Ocean Sea Minerals (Nutrients) → t.ly/xd03 We add 0.5 oz. of Sea Nutrients to every 1 gallon of water. In my experience, it gives the microgreens just the right amount of nutrients they need to grow (they don't need much). We like to stay as close to Seed/Water/Harvest as possible without adding anything extra to our crop. This is the reason we stick with coco coir instead of soil. Hope this helps and look forward to seeing you in the future :)

A two questions if I might: (a) do you use fans over the microgreens ONLY for the last 24 hours before harvest? (b) Have you had any experience with other commercial potting mixes in place of coco coir? (e.g. with Miracle Grow Potting mix) Comparison?
@PrincetonMicrogreens3 жыл бұрын
We have fans blowing around in the room 24/7 but not the rack fans. Those we kick on before harvest as stated. I don’t personally like miracle grow mixes as they are a bit more than you would need for quadruple the cost. I have used it successfully In the past, it didn’t see any differences between it and coir with ocean nutrients. I’d rather have the clean coco coir since I know exactly what’s in my tray ☺️
