You gotta love how the game just pretended the vaccine was a sure thing they could have definitely done instead of their last bet with a very real chance of failure This is completely ignoring the context that the fireflies as they were presented in the first game were violent anarchistic knitwits who wasted their resources and Manpower skirmishing with the military instead of maybe backing up the person who was supposedly transporting Humanity's Last Hope It just pretends Joel had no reason not to have faith in them And it also pretends Joel definitely killed every doctor in the operating room despite him only canonically having to kill the one that charged at him It's like the game itself is Firefly propaganda

But here’s the thing, if the Fireflies were aware that Ellie would have gone through with the cure and be willing to dead for it, then they should have woke her up and to say her goodbye to Joel. That would have prevent Joel from going rampant and kill everyone to get her back. Because in his mind, they’re taking a little girl hostage, not waking her up to ask for her opinion, not allowing him to say goodbye, and they’re clearly so desperate that they are at the point of being delusional. But the reason why they didn’t wake her up was because they feared maybe she wouldn’t want to go through with it once faced with the reality of actually doing it. Why else wouldn’t they wake her up to say goodbye or even give her the choice?

If "Part Two" was such a monument of the gaming industry, where's the sequel? If Drukmann was so obsessed with telling these stories, why hasn't he been talking up development at the studio? The lack of action speaks volumes at this point.
@gamermoviedude55333 ай бұрын
Eh, I mean games take some time to create and usually don’t get pushed out in short amounts of time unless they’re easier to make like that, like a Call of Duty title. By this logic, a hater of TLOU 1 of GTA 5 could’ve said “where’s the sequel,” but they took years to develop.
@The_Real_Frisbee3 ай бұрын
@@gamermoviedude5533 I wouldn't use GTA as an example here. Vice City came out 2 years after 3, San Andreas came out 2 years after Vice City, 4 came out 4 years after San Andreas, and between 4 and 5 there was a 5 year gap. The entire reason why we haven't gotten another GTA game in 12 years is because they knew they could milk the hell out of GTA 5. With TLOU 2, the main reason why there was a longer gap between the two games is because the studio was focusing on Uncharted until 2017 before directing their main attention to TLOU 2. While they did start creating elements before that, it wasn't the sole focus, so realistically we can say that it only took 3 years of full development.

No you see, Joel hunted down and killed every single doctor left alive in the whole world. Even though the doctors that were with the Fireflies I'm pretty sure canonically were NOT even qualified to make this vaccine in the first place, but they just kinda assumed it'd work out. Like you'd need SO many specialized doctors with INCREDIBLE skill to even BEGIN to try to do what they explain explicitly. That's really the biggest problem with the first game, saving Ellie is objectively correct because they EXPLAIN how this supposed cure would work, and it DOESN'T work. There's ZERO chance they could save ONE person by killing Ellie and extracting the fungus from her head. If you can make a vaccine by using her fungus, you can make a vaccine without it, you have the technology to do it.
@Good_Boy_30003 ай бұрын
@haku8135 Real world pathologists even said that they really only need to observe how Ellie's antibodies work against Cordyceps through her blood. They even confirm extracting Cordyceps through her cerebralspinal fluid, likely through a spine tap. Just putting a cerebral port in Ellie would allow easier access to Ellie's spinal fluid.
@haku81353 ай бұрын
@@Good_Boy_3000 The way they explain it in the first game, is that Ellie was infected with the cordyceps, BUT the specific strain that got into her brain, is broken. It's mutated and so it just does nothing, but it's still in there. They then say, because it's in there just doing nothing, it is also blocking correctly working cordyceps from taking root in her and turning her. Therefore, Ellie is immune to cordyceps because she's technically already infected, but the infection is asymptomatic. It has nothing to do with her immune system, it has nothing to do with anything about HER body specifically. Nothing like that. It is PURELY because ONE sample of the fungus just doesn't work. So they say if they kill her, and extract this sample, they could then use it to make EVERYONE immune to the fungus. Which, is bullshit. If you can genetically engineer millions of samples of the cordyceps to work just well enough that they infect, but don't turn people, then you can just do it. You don't need a sample of a broken fungus, you MAKE the broken fungus yourself. If you can't do that, having a broken fungus sample will do nothing for you. Like the fact it got into Ellie and did nothing means it can't reproduce, so you can't breed more of these things, cause it's effectively a sterile cordyceps. So if you can't genetically alter cordyceps samples at will, it's worthless. And they obviously cannot do that, so the entire plan is dead on arrival. Also, yes, I'm aware that Ellie's body would require some way to eliminate other samples of cordyceps that get into her body and attempt to take her over prior to being body blocked by the broken fungus. Something would also need to be stopping the other fungus spores from reaching her brain in the first place, cause once its in there.... I mean it's in there. Doesn't matter if it doesn't do its mind control thing, a bunch of spores building up inside your brain isn't gonna end well. So there needs to be something stopping the spores from getting that far, and then her white blood cells need to know how to clear the presumably still living spores out of her body. So if her body has become adapted to fighting the spores, thanks to the broken fungus in her head keeping her from turning too quickly, then yeah it would be infinitely valuable to study her immune system, not kill her for a useless fungus. However, none of this is ever even mentioned. The first game is very good, but not this part. Their only thoughts are "Broken fungus. If we rip it out, we can make a vaccine." no further considerations given. This is why Joel is objectively correct in saving Ellie. Letting her die serves ZERO purpose. And the end of the first game is poorly written, because they specifically wanted that choice to be a hard decision, but it's not cause their idea of a cure doesn't work. This is why you don't make a zombie apocalypse fucking disease, just make it magic damn it. Just say the grim reaper has gone on vacation and the dead are just rising because the law of death pissed off. Zombies are SO boring now.

@@haku8135 I think there's more at play if Ellie can shrug off spores like nothing. Her immune system would've had to somehow figure out how to not overreact to spores like it does in others. Also, she's not asymptomatic, she's either Infected with a benign strain, or something like that. In the second game, she confirms that she can't infect others nor immunize them.

I get the feeling they *wanted* the story to be that Ellie is simply just blind with rage as she kills people to reach Abby, but it's only then that she starts to realize what she's actually doing. Crappy execution though.

Never played the game but I think it should’ve been multiple endings. One where you forgive Abby and Ellie keeps her fingers letting her play the guitar and keep those memories of Joel alive and well, and you keep your Arab gf or whatever she was. And the other ending where you kill Abby but lose your two fingers and Arab gf thing. That would be actual decent writing, what we got was dogshit and the only reason I think it has one ending is cuz the devs knew 98% of players are drowning that gorilla of a woman when they get the option.
@garbearfar13943 ай бұрын
I don’t even care all that much about the vaccine debate part of things, Abby is totally right to hunt down Joel that part is fair, Ellie is equally right to hunt down Abby in return but the issue for me is robbing the player of a choice at the end of following the revenge thru or letting things lie and moving on.

17:10 THATS THE INTERESTING BIT. The fireflies would feel the same way as the video essay, but with the addition that they have some kind of mission to "consolidate" the other factions. Force them to submit for cure access. There is an alternate reality where Ellie is drad and i honestly prefer it because of the cool shit that can be done in the wake of it.

I disagree to one point. The vaccine would help bring stability. No new infecteds means more resources availiable, means less turf wars, and it would allow easier expansions, to a certain degree, and until most valuable area are taken.
@beowulfsrevenge43693 ай бұрын
IF they could even make one from Ellie, life would be easier cause no more infections. But the fireflies would definitely use the vaccine to make themselves more powerful. It wouldn't just be universally available to everyone right away.
@garbearfar13943 ай бұрын
Kinda but only one faction would have access to it unless they wanted to let others have it. And unless they started building infrastructure as soon as they got the vaccine their tight resources would only get tighter, taking care of the wounded who aren’t lost causes anymore would lead to huge medical shortages. I think one party would definitely rise higher than the rest but until they got there there would be tons of turf wars and fighting.
@a.r.h99193 ай бұрын
That is ignoring that the fireflies would act altruistic with it and how the military would handle it which is absolute bollocks from both sides
@Dabeyoun3 ай бұрын
@@garbearfar1394 you think once a vaccine is available other factions wouldn't get their hands on it? My point is, sure, it might cause more wars (or not, now that the Fireflies have a strong bargaining chip, they might instead get a good offer for it), but EVENTUALLY it would lead back to stability. The infected eventually rot away, right? Once everyone's safe, eventually some new normality would appear.

TLOU2 teaser trailer drops: ‘Implies Joel’s dead and Ellie’s going go get revenge by hunting down the fireflies’ Fans: “This is going to be amazing!” TLOU2 game drops: ‘Literally what the teaser teased it would be’ Fans: “This sucks!” If you thought Ellie forgave Joel for taking away her choice at the end of the first game, then I don’t think you actually understood half of the story of the first game.

‘Conveniently forgets the trailer that made it seem like Joel was gonna be on an adventure with Ellie and the ads that made it look like Dina was the one killed instead.’
@Joshua-i2o8s3 ай бұрын
@@blackdynomite5831 now that, I’ll agree with. I get it in theory; protect the twist, but yeah, super misleading bs to remake an actual cutscene. Just use an actual Joel scene, or if none work, recut the actual trailer.
@nhagan0013 ай бұрын
@@Joshua-i2o8s to piggyback off the other person’s comment, due to us thinking we would be ON AN ADVENTURE WITH JOEL, it was then assumed that Ellie’s partner (Diana the super Jew) would be killed. The revenge mission would be about avenging Diana. So when you then lie about that, have Joel killed instead, then have Ellie stop at the final moment because “revenge is bad”… Now you’ve just wasted everyone’s time.
@Joshua-i2o8s3 ай бұрын
@@nhagan001 I can definitely agree with that view point, the main trailer was definitely misleading in setting incorrect expectations. I suppose for me, as soon as I started playing, I put the trailers out of mind, (which yes, I see the irony, given my op comment was tongue and cheek about the teaser setting expectations in the first place lol). Though I do think, generally speaking, that the ‘revenge is bad’ criticism people give, tends to be a bit of an over simplification of the actual ending, which is more of a; ‘I (Ellie) finally realise that killing Abby isn’t going to make me feel better. Joel killed her dad, she killed mine, now I’m about to kill Lev’s parental figure, so instead I’m choosing to end the cycle here and try and finally move on’. But that just me, like I said, I can see the revenge plot line going both ways and can understand why some people did want her to go through with it. I don’t think either path is partially right or wrong from a story telling pov.
