I came up in a Wiccan family and I can 100% confirm that yes, ouija boards are a literal board game by Hasbro and Parker Bros. They're about as supernatural as Candyland. Imagine being a grown adult afraid of Candyland.

Fair warning: this is kind of all over the place, but I'm tired and lazy so do with this what you will. I was one of those Native kids that got converted to Christianity at 12. Being the snobby ass 12 year old kid I was, I'd say that Native practices were evil to my own family. the fact that I was so easily swayed by what the church believed, and the fact that I was scared of not being whatever the fuck "God" wanted from me is just blatant brainwashing. I've left the church since and I've been getting back in touch with my nation's spiritual practices. let me tell you, I feel so much safer doing all these so-called "satanic" practices than being god-fearing and obedient to some 2000-year old book.
@twig8523

This is precisely what makes these kinds of Christianity incompatible with free society. And that's not an accident. Where the freedom for others to practice their cultural traditions are fought against as though the rights of the Christian are being attacked. I've been in arguments where the evangelical cannot comprehend that three "right" to oppress others is no right at all.

I am Native and grew up on my tribe's reservation and the white people near where I grew up would say sh!t about being scared of being cursed by Natives and looked down on Natives for their traditional spiritual practices. Also my great great grandmother believed in holistic traditional Indigenous medicine and got berated by white people about it. My great grandfather converted to Christianity and thought negatively about stomp dances and traditional Indigenous beliefs. The elders where I come from would say "you either go to church OR stomp dances, never both" meaning stomp dances and other traditional Indigenous spiritual practices where literally demonized by them because they had been indoctrinated into believing their own Indigenous ancestors' beliefs were wrong and demonic and Christianity was the right way to believe.

Before I knew I was autistic I saw some of these "exorcisms". I'm fairly convinced that some of them were being performed on other autistics (especially the nonverbal victims) that were going through meltdowns due to sensory overload because there was someone yelling at them which made the meltdown worse which prompted the preacher to increase their intensity which only made it worse for the victims and jut turned into a feaback loop.

Yeah, lots of disability awareness people have been pointing out that "demonic possessions" and "exorcisms" were epileptic seizures and people with autism. And the story of changelings is definitely inspired by autistic children. "My child was fine, but then started acting "non-human"" just sounds like a medieval way of explaining "I noticed my child started exhibiting autistic traits and I don't understand it. Must be fairies" On one hand it's interesting how older people explained these things, but on the other hand F*** THEM ALL for using that to abuse people. I have become more aware of these things as I study folklore, and some things just make me truly sad for all the people that had to suffer because of ignorance.

I was 14 when my dad developed schizophrenia. Because we were firm believers in demons, rather that getting him professional help, we took him for an exorcism. I'm now 51 and still have trauma from watching my dad scream and cry for help while he was held down and screamed at for over an hour. Needless to say, the exorcism did not help. He finally went to the hospital, where he stayed for nearly 2 years before he was stable enough to come home.

My parents were crazy religious and sent me to the exorcist regularly to "get rid of the rage demon" inside of me. It wasn't really all big like the vids shown here. It was more like talking, praying and the guy making me feel guilty for "letting" the demon back in. Turns out I just had an untreated heart problem, where my body was forced to produce insane amounts of stress hormones to keep my heart beating fast enough. And one of the many side effects is impulsivity, sensory issues and irritability... If they just took me to a doctor when they realized something was wrong.

I knew a woman who was restrained for an exorcism ritual. She did this voluntarily because she said that she was disturbed by the thoughts that were coming to her and the way her life was headed. This ritual lasted a full night, and a day later she was taken to a mental hospital. She spoke nothing but gibberish for while, and began shaking violently. In the end, it turned out to be withdrawal. When she finally spoke with a psychiatrist, it turned out to be from over a decade of drug and sexual abuse, beginning with group sex with grown men at age 13. Her mother had been extraordinarily religious and punished her in such manner rather than go to authorities. From that, the woman always assumed her troubles always had demons behind them.

I have epilepsy, an issue I have with that "exorcism" is that if she wasn't an actor, and she wasn't having a mental break from trauma, then she *may* have been having a seizure. Many seizures have been played off as "demons" in highly religious families and groups, especially when they involve babbling or "speaking in tongues". Not all seizures are just shaking on the ground unconscious, and the most harm done to me during a seizure has been from misinformed religious people having this exact reaction

As a former Wiccan, I can verify that humor is totally not prohibited in most traditions. Even the founder of Wicca, Gerald Gardner, noted that Wiccans are “consummate leg-pullers”. If the Abrahamic religions had half that sense of humor, they’d be much more bearable, and they’d probably not be hemorrhaging members so badly right now.

I may be telling on my age, I can verify that playing a heavy metal record backwards would summon up a demon back in the 80s. It will possess your mother or father, and screech loudly about "screwing up the record player" and "ruining the needle" while it possesses them and chases you around. I think it's the same demon that ruins your Iron Maiden album at the same time by scratching it.

Listening to the guy talk about throwing out your sage for fear of demons reminded me of something that happened when I was in middle school, around age 13. I had a female friend from school that was toying with Wicca. She let me borrow a guidebook or something because I was interested. I went home, read it, even tried to make a homemade wand to do my own spells. I went to church over the weekend because my grandmother always made us go on Sundays. I was so guilt ridden from just listening to the religious garbage that they were telling us that I went home and threw the book away in fear. I never mentioned the book to my friend, but I assume she just figured I liked it and kept it without asking.

We went to a church in a barn. There was so much of this. I didn't know I was ADHD until later in life, but they tried doing exorcism weekly for almost a decade for my symptoms, which were basically fidgeting during the 3 hour service, not paying attention, not believing "understanding" what they're saying, and hiding/ meltdowns when they would find me under chairs or the coat pile. They would all lay hands, talk in tongues, screaming, pushing me down, dumping oil on my forehead, and putting a blanket over your head when you'd be forced to the ground. It was so traumatic that I'm just now dealing with it at 40. I left my family no contact 2 years ago. The kindest thing that happened at the church was an older gentleman pulled me aside and told me to call to the floor and start convulsing right away and they'll leave you alone. So that became my strategy every Sunday and almost every Wednesday. They also forced me to get baptized in a sheep dip a few times a year. They said I had a sexual, rebellious demon that would not loose its hold on me. I didn't even know what what sex was when it started. 😢😢😢

Isn't the "tree of life" thing related to the "8 aspects of God" from the Kabbalah? Aka biblical apocrypha? It can also refer to the LITERAL tree of life in the bible that gives immortality granting fruit that was adapted into many mythologies such as Norse and Greek or the World Tree from Norse mythology. So definitely not satanic. If anything it's a CHRISTAIN symbol.
@ace..of..hearts_they-them_

@@ace..of..hearts_they-them_ Older than Kabbalah, definitely, but the Torah (the original 5 books of Bible) was either written around 1220 BCE in the theory that the biblical Moses wrote the Torah or around 550 BCE in the theory that the majority of the OT was written during the babelonian exile. Some of the earliest records of Greek Mythology are from Homer's Illiad and The Odyssey which was written between 720 BCE and 680 BCE. Therefore, depending on which theory you subscribe to on when the bible (at least the OT/Torah) was written, the bible could be older or younger than the earliest recorded records of greek mythology. Norse Mythology is MUCH younger, only being officially written down 1220 CE by Snori Snowenson, a Norwegian christian monk. The "true Norse mythology" has been completely lose to time, as the only surviving records of Norse Mythology are in the Eddas and various pop culture based on them, with both Eddas being written by clearly incredibly biased christain monks in the middle ages. We don't actually know how much of the mythology as told by Snori is what the vikings actually believed and what was made up or embellished by Snori to push some sort of message or theme. Therefore, the Norse mythology we know is practically fanfiction from Snorri as the Norse only wrote down small fragments of their stories in runes that have never been translated, similar to Egyptian hieroglyphs before the Rosetta Stone was discovered. TLDR: -The Torah, the first 5 books of the bible, was written in either 1220 BCE or 550 BCE, making the original scriptures either 3244 years old or 2546 years old based on what theory you subscribe to. -The actual, finished bible was fully completed and compiled from 50 CE to 100 CE, making the finished work between 1970 years old to 1920 years old. -Greek Mythology can potentially be older than the bible, with the earliest surviving records being Homer's Illiad and Odyssey which were written between 720 BCE and 680 BCE. This makes Greek Mythology at the earliest 2744 years old to 2704 years old. This makes Greek mythology in comparison to the Torah either 500 years younger or 178 years older. So they're pretty close. -In terms of the completed Bible, Greek Mythology is around 775 years older. -Norse mythology is significant younger than both, it's first recorded instance being in 1220 CE, which is over 1100 years after the bible was COMPLETED. 1220 CE was only 804 years ago while the Torah was written either 3244 years ago or 2546 years ago which first introduced the concept of "the tree of life." Therefore, the bible is the oldest record of the tree of life, especially when the concept was only added to Greek Mythology upon the addition of the Hercules myth which was mostly developed by the Romans.

This is an invocation of the post hoc fallacy - it happened after and therefore because of: a favorite of religious fundamentalists, anything “bad” that happens after you do something the faith condemns is because you left yourself open to dark powers and anything “good” that happens when you act in accordance with the faith is a reward from the heavens. Of course, it gets very dicey for them to explain things when the opposite occurs - often resorting to “mysterious ways” type arguments to maintain the cognitive dissonance…

I looked to Christian content and what they described as demonic I saw in myself so I thought I had something evil in me. Long story short I decided to fast (not eat) that week. I was hungry and dehydrated. Then I went to a deliverance service and the worship team set a hypnotic atmosphere (repetitive words, closed eyes, soft instruments in the background). And when the pastor yelled at ‘the spirit in me’ to get out I started screaming and kicking uncontrollably. It felt like I was in a trance.. I was aware of what was going on but I had no way of controlling it. All I know for sure is this: I allowed it. I was convinced there was an evil spirit in me. I was mentally and physically primed (I had not been eating so I was weak) for me to fall victim to this. A year later and I’m not a Christian anymore, I got the diagnosis that I’m bipolar and I’m on treatment and I’m going to therapy. I feel better than ever.

As someone who spent my childhood in a church like these, I can tell you that “speaking in tongues” is a truly surreal experience. Looking back as an adult, I can see how we were led to put ourselves into an almost hypnotic state. They would have us repeat these words and sounds repeatedly, until I could feel my jaw muscles starting to jerk, similar to how your muscles do when you have a chill. And as I continued to repeat the words, they became distorted by my jaw quivering, until the now-foreign-sounding words began to come out automatically. I was no longer speaking. My mouth and throat were doing it by themselves. At that point, I was “speaking in tongues”.

Why does yoga HAVE to be a satanic ritual? Why can it not just be some kinda stretching exercise that just makes people feel good? Why can't tarot just be some silly little card game? Like, for the Christian god being all powerful, they make Him out to be really fucking lazy compared to the devil. Satan's out here diversifying his assets across hundreds of different religions across the world, and all God has is the one book that he hasn't made a new edition of in over a thousand years?

Easier to excuse doing horrific things to indigenous people groups when you make out that they're demon worshippers and therefore evil, so you have to "save" their kids from their demonic ways by putting them in boarding schools where a lot of them will be abused/starved/neglected to death. It makes a disturbing amount of sense when you see it through the lens of colonialism. It's all about dehumanizing the other so you can take their children, land, and resources.

That clip of the woman who was “possessed” just hurts. I’ve known people like that, and I know exactly what processes they used to convince that poor woman that she was possessed and wound her up so badly. I hope that she can heal from that and find the support she needs. It’s frustrating to say the least, because they use everything as evidence. Something good happens to people who do a practice? It’s because they are trafficking in demons and the demons are interrupting the actual order of things. Something bad happened? “They had it coming, wearing that crystal like that!!” They believed that psychologists were demon traffickers so obviously a psychologist saying, “Your child is mentally suffering because of what you are doing to them.” Is only confirmation to them. Needless to say, it’s near impossible to try and get them to see sense. Now time to tidy up my crystal collection...

My dad is an extremist Catholic. Used to make us pray every night "to help stay together". I stop believing pretty much as soon as I learn high school Philosophy class. Last time we prayed together he calls us in the living room, asks all nicely to read a prayer with us without showing it first. It's like 10 mins long. It's just a series a promises to love God and avoid demons. Then it gets to refutations. Starts listing ouija, seances, psychics, witchcraft, etc. Then it gets into tarot, yoga, astrology, santeria, and voodoo. I stop responding and start rolling my eyes. Then the cherry on top. It says to refute crystals. A rock formation that God created is demonic because some people think they're magic. I audibly chuckle while he continues reading it. Prayer ends. I turn to him, shaking my head, and say "I'm not saying that now or ever again, that was ridiculous." He says nothing in return. I moved out like a month later. He got us to pray to stay together but his stupid prayer was probably the last nail in the coffin of me politely practicing with him to avoid a confrontation.

Its common practice for native peoples to remain in a good mood and have good thoughts while braiding themselves or others(Usually family or loved ones) so they can keep those good vibes with them throughout their day because those good vibes/intentions are in their braid. (Each of the 3 braids representing Mind, Body, and Soul) and is the connection to the creator, longer the braid means the stronger the connection, sort of like an antenna lol. Demons aren't attracted to vanilla-scented candles. That's ridiculous. Good witches do their homework.

White sage - a sacred herb to various indigenous peoples - is also under threat of going extinct because of pagans & "crystal Karens."

Indigenous people don’t own sage. Burn it if you want, it’s a nice sensation that takes nothing away from indigenous people. You’re just trying to signal being a good person while doing nothing that hurts or helps.

I'm gonna be real, worrying about "cultural appropriation" in terms of what herb you're going to burn is just... you're admitting it's purely a ritual for ritual sake. Why does it matter which herb you burn? Seriously, what harm could that possibly be doing?

Before fully deconstructing a "concerned family member" set me up with a Christian counselor. Said counselor told me during one of our four sessions that doing yoga one time would immediately bring demon possession on to a person. I asked a few questions, basically leading up to "if i admit I've done yoga a lot will you try to have me exorcised" and the answer was yes. If i had admitted to doing yoga she would have called her husband in to immediately exorcise me. Thankfully i was already beginning my deconstruction journey and knew to not admit to doing yoga. She also said though that she and her husband could both sense the presence of demons in people so... yeah i think I'm ok

Lol if they can sense demons they won't have to immediately jump the gun just because someone did Yoga once at some point.
