I agree with you in most cases, but as someone who was raised secular, I personally wish I had been raised religious. My parents are “religion is stupid and everyone who believes in it is also stupid” atheists and having “religion is evil” on one side and “you’re going to hell for not being Christian / being gay / etc” on the other (thanks, school!) it gave me horrible self esteem issues. I was stupid for being religious, but also the wrong kind of religious. I was rejected by both sides. I used to be jealous when kids at school would talk about going to church because they had a community, they had somewhere to belong. I am now working on conversion to Judaism (which my parents do not support) and I intend to raise my children Jewish as well (not forced though)

I started experiencing sleep paralysis when I was in my early thirties. At the most basic level, sleep paralysis is a state in which people experience exceptionally vivid nightmares, often coupled with a partial awareness of the waking world, and the physical inability to move. It is frankly terrifying. In the U.S., people who experience sleep paralysis tend to have one of two types of dreams during these incidents. One type of dreams involves demons. The second type involves aliens. People who experience sleep paralysis in other cultures tend to dream about whatever their culture predisposes them to dream about. I experienced alien dreams and demon dreams when I first started suffering from sleep paralysis. As I learned more about it and later became an atheist, I generally stopped experiencing both types of dreams. I still have sleep paralysis and it is still terrifying but it doesn’t usually involve demons or aliens. The story about a demon bursting in through the windows and moving the bed is the kind of thing I would expect a preacher to experience during sleep paralysis. This is especially true if this was an early sleep paralysis experience and he had not yet learned to differentiate between what was real and what was dream in that bizarre state. The obvious alternative is that he just invented the story.

Sleep paralysis is just the state where your body is asleep while your brain is awake. It doesn’t have to come with hallucinations, it often does if you get it while waking up but not if you get it while falling asleep.

The problem is that "spiritual" stuff inevitably ends up at pseudoscience and more harmful things, because there's no way to draw a line between harmless and harmful if you actually believe the things. It's a broken epistemology, so even the "harmless" things are not actually all that harmless. Note: this doesn't include, for example, meditation where you realise that you're just doing that to relax and calm your mind with no beliefs about supernatural effects.

That's not how beliefs work. You just become convinced that something is true, and that generally happens indiscriminately across harmless and harmful beliefs. You could also have something that shifts from harmless to harmful, e.g. if someone thinks meditating helps their "spiritual health", that may initially be harmless, but it could fairly easily transform into thinking health problems are caused by "spiritual" problems, at which point they may choose pseudoscience that purports to deal with the "spiritual", above traditional medicine that doesn't.

I shudder to think how many supposed "demon posessions" were actually due to things like autism, epilepsy, schizophrenia, psychosis, sleepwalking, or literally any condition that's known to induce "abnormal" behavior. How many people, especially children, were forced to undergo exorcisms? Which likely involved getting forcibly restrained and being screamed at by a stranger for hours. Being subjected to such stressful conditions would most definitely make the symptoms worse, and it would only confirm everyone else's beliefs that it's due to demon posession, thus ensuring that the cycle of needless abuse continues.

Regarding the demon moving the bed, isn't it very convenient that the person just randomly decided to make the demon come back and remove all traces of it ever being there? Replacing the bed and closing the window. Leaving no physical sign that anything happened.

Once I was laying in bed in the middle of the night, and all of a sudden I saw my apartment door was open and a dark figure stood there. I started upright and immediately grabbed the first thing to hand (an adjustable tablet stand) and swung it! But of course, just like the "demon" it was a figment of my imagination and a very easily explained neurological blip. 21:23 I think the guy just confused black holes with wormholes. Wormholes are tunnels through spacetime. Black holes are just singularities. Touch a black hole and you're just spaghettified and eventually, theoretically, compressed into the smallest form of matter before even that is pressed to the point that it tears itself apart.

I'm afraid your black hole description is a bit off. Black holes aren't a physical body which can be touched; the event horizon is simply the boundary in space beyond which you can no longer communicate with or return to anywhere outside the black hole. You won't be spaghettified until the tidal forces are strong enough, which is more likely to happen sooner for a small hole (even outside its event horizon) than for a large one; you could travel safely into a supermassive black hole, for example, until you get closer to the centre (assuming you were protected against the radiation generated by the accretion disc, anyway). Your remains won't be compressed but torn into an ever-lengthening string of disconnected subatomic particles. And it's even arguable as to whether what remains of you would ever reach the centre, because space and time are flipped. Also, a rotating black hole might not have a singularity at the centre but a toroidal structure to spacetime where the circle within the toroid is a sort of smeared singularity. But you'd be beyond caring by the time you could identify that, and you wouldn't be able to tell anyone that their hypothesis was correct anyway.

I read a book about how to astral project and tried it. I fell asleep every time. Now I use the techniques when I’m having a hard time getting to sleep. So it wasn’t entirely useless. Unless you actually want to astral project or believe it’s possible because you won’t and it isn’t real.

It might feel that way if you only consume it through youtubers sharing the craziest stuff they can find, but Tiktok contains multitudes. I never get this kind of nonsense on my feed. My feed is full of cooking videos and sustainable gardening tips. I've learned a lot of valuable real life skills on that app, it really all depends on how you shape the algorithm. And of course it can lead people down rabbit holes and that can be problematic, but that's a potential problem with all social media really.

About Lucid Dreaming: It is incredibly fun. That's why you would want it. And as a plus it is also, inexplicably, restful. So if you can do it, do it. However, I accidentally used most of those sure-fire 'techniques' people hype to lucid dream for years... and it never worked except for on accident. So take that with a grain of salt.
