This BETWEEN THE CRACKS Between film review is the best I have ever come across. Coincidently "Everything is Illuminated is one of the best movies I have ever experienced, if not the best. THANK YOU!!! for making the experience even better.

That's a hell of a production quality for a channel with 322 subscribers.

Hi Eric. I'm trying to fathom the relationship between the number of subscribers and "hell of a production quality" myself. Likely if I were 18 years old and talking at my i-phone about handbags and shoes or what I plan to do on my summer vacation my quota of subscribers would likely quadruple :-) Cheers, Greg.

When I first sat down to watch this movie, I knew nothing about it nor what to expect. By the time the final credits rolled, it was my favorite movie. Cheers!

You are right about it being hard to sell. It is one of my all-time favorite movies and I am constantly trying to convince people to watch it, but no one is even the least bit interested. I just don't get it.

I tried for a while too. Some watched it but didn't share the enthusiasm...

Like so many others commenting here, this is one of my absolute favorite movies. I only happened on it because of a review round up by Roger Ebert of obscure movies you must see, and included among them was Everything is Illuminated, about a couple years before his death. I found this film to be the definition of poignancy, joy, high humor, redemption and resilience all rolled into one. My heart breaks a little each time I watch it and I'm glad because it helps me to remember that I'm still human.

The main thing about this film...it does have it's sad and funny parts, but it encompasses such an undertone of melancholy, which will leave you feeling both sad and exhilarated. All the characters are so real and underplayed which adds many things you don't expect, from each character and how they develop in the movie. First impressions are completely changed for each character, by movie's end. I came across this movie by accident many years ago. I was curious to see what Elijah Wood, had done after "Lord of the Rings"....and found this movie. From Frodo to Jonathan, but with both characters played so well by Wood. Since discovering the film back in 2005 or 2006, I've watched it once or twice every year since then. It continues to deliver. Not to many movies continue to have this gravitational pull to me, to watch it again. Dig, DmGrk

I saw this movie and loved it. THEN I went to Russia and Ukraine on vacation. I came back to America and watched it again, and laughed even harder, cried even more. I am NOT Russian nor Ukrainian nor am I NOT Jewish. I am a historian and this movie puts a very human face on the Holocaust. I made my friends watch it, and everyone loved it.

Honestly, how this did not win the Best Picture Academy Award has always been a mystery to me. Brilliant script, casting, cinematography, acting, directing etc. blah. Frankly I've never seen a better film that has so completely fallen between the cracks. I understand the difficulty of marketing such a film but it is so vastly better than all the other films that nominated for Best Pic that year that is not even funny! Also, how on earth has Liv Schreiber never directed another film is beyond me.
