Hey! Pikmin is one of the 3DS’s many 2D platformers that has been forgotten by both the fans and Nintendo themselves. Both out of ambivalence and negligence, but is it really worth being forgotten? That’s what we’re going to find out.

I played the demo and thought it was ok. Oh and (if you didn’t notice in the chat) I think Yo-kai Watch 3 is the best looking game on the 3DS.

While the gameplay was pretty lacking in many areas, the concepts the game uses are REALLY creative, like actually swimming around underwater, flying with winged Pikmin, and exploring abandoned waterways. I wish the main series did more stuff like it.

Honestly a game whether it's being it's own thing or a prequel just doesn't deserve the hate it got just because of being different but it's can be a good game depends on how well it is at it's own thing i would love to see this game on the switch

Before Pikmin 4 I decided to play all of the games in the series for the first time including Hey pikmin. I personally like the game. I had a good time with it and I think it’s a decent platformer but when it came to the story of the game, I at first really didn’t like it. It was mainly that it took place on a different planet then PNF-404 yet it had similar animals and it looked to be another post apocalypse earth. I at first really hated this, but over time it started to grow on me. I just started theorizing about why there are more than one planet that seemed to have remnants of human society. I actually had a theory that Pikmin 4 could have taken place on the Hey pikmin planet (I’m really annoyed they never gave that planet a name). In the first three games, it always seemed to me that human society had disappeared long ago, but in 4 the house that’s abandoned in the game seems very well kept all things considered, which I feel like would imply humans just recently disappeared. The plant in hey pikmin well also abandoned by humans does seem to be in a more well-kept condition than PNF-404 based off of some visual details in the game. However, I no longer believe in this theory for a variety of reasons. None of the hey pikmin enemies appear in 4 (which is a missed opportunity imo), the leafling IDs say there from PNF-404 and the reason the house is in such pristine condition is probably because 4 just retcond the entire series but I’m still not 100% sure if that’s the case or not

1:10 Theres actually a conspiracy theory on that. Remember the Plasm Wraith? And its weird obsession with olimar. Well it bears a striking resemblance to the Goolix and the Water Wraith, and a popular theory in the fandom is that they’re all the same creature. Following Olimar since the beginning. Now I know what you’re thinking. “Didn’t we kill them?” Well… according to the ship in Pikmin 2 the monster’s true form actually lies in another dimension. Meaning that destroying its physical form on earth only slows it down. Also we see the Plasm Wraith mad at the Koppaites for taking Olimar away. Also in the ending of Pikmin 3 it says “However, one question remains. What was the cause of the accident that sent the S.S. Drake hurtling to PNF-404’s surface? Perhaps it wasn’t an accident at all…”. Also in the Japanese version of Pikmin 2 if you translate “Water Wraith” it translates to “Amebouzu” which is a combination of Ameba and Umibōzu. An Umibōzu is a mythical spirit known to capsize ships at sea. Maybe the Wraiths in Pikmin are that but with space ships instead. Which is why almost every single landing on the planet has ended in failure. BUT HEY THATS JUST A THEORY A GA- (Also shoutouts to youtuber Chase Kip for credits)

@@laggianputThat doesn’t necessarily rule out the wraiths though. Hell, the physical description of the Umibōzu strikingly resembles the Waterwraith; it’s often described as having “a large round head with serpentine limbs”. And of course, there’s the fact that they behave very similarly to the Umibōzu. It chases the captains with the intention of killing them, and does not stop until the captain is dead.

I feel like Hey Pikmin deserves more praise for what it is, rather than judging it for what it isn't trying to be. Judging a game based on what it isn't or chooses not to be is like judging a book by its cover; you shouldn't do it because it's a terrible way to view any game. Because I don't play Pikmin, I've never even heard of this game until watching this video. It's really baffling to see that almost all Pikmin fans choose to act like it doesn't exist.

I remember watching a playthrough, and it was honestly okay. The gameplay was different, and bossfights looked simpler, but I thought it was a nice change of pace.

I never played this game because I never owned a 3DS and I wasn't into Pikmin at the time. But I do agree with what you said, and I don't understand why people call this the worst one or why the Tamatoa loving KZbinr who reviewed the other 3 games, and 4 once he gets a chance, won't check this one out. It's definitely looks fine, and looks like it does well enough for whay It's trying to accomplish. Not a traditional Pikmin game (no way one would work on 3DS anyway) but good enough for the system it was on and better than nothing. I think it's downed on so much due to lack of interest because it's a 3DS title and not given a fair chance or a chance at all cause people decide to skip it because it's on the 3DS. And if that's the case, then don't judge something if you don't give it a shot. Anyway, looking forward to Pikmin 4 ERAWW. I'm really enjoying the game so far.

The reason people didn't like this game initially was because people thought we had another Chibi-Robo Zip Lash situation on our hands, where if this niche spinoff that doesn't play anything like the originals doesn't perform well, then the series would die. That didn't end up being the case, but you can understand the resentment. Furthermore, this came out at a time where it felt like Nintendo didn't want to listen to fan feedback and make normal entries anymore. There is the aforementioned Chibi-Robo, but also Metroid Prime FF, Paper Mario Color Splash, and now Hey Pikmin.

There is something about this game that really annoys me and it has to do with the amiibo. I think this game has some of the best amiibo support we’ve ever gotten. All of the logs about the different characters are all really cute and funny. My problem is that the amiibos are series locked and hey pikmin is the only Nintendo game I know of that does this. In most games it doesn’t matter if you have smash series Mario amiibo or a Mario series Mario amiibo, Scanning it will just get you the Mario stuff no matter what series it’s from. Hey pikmin isn’t like that. I have a ton of Mario amiibo but there all smash series and hey pikmin only excepts Mario series amiibo. This is really annoying and stupid. I know it really doesn’t matter that much but it still really irks me

I mean, 2 is my favourite, so by default this makes Hey! the worst game in the series for me. Now, do I dislike Hey! Pikmin? Absolutely not, I love it as much as every other entry in the series (maybe sometimes even more than 3 lmao). It is a beautiful game that clearly shows how much love and passion went into it, and IMO, its Piklopedia is actually better than 3 Deluxe's because at least you can rotate the enemies and even trigger its different animations. I still remember my favourite levels in the game, my favourite enemies; and its soundtrack is arguably the best in the franchise, because of how consistently good every track is. All in all, Hey! is just an average platformer made with lots of care for the franchise, and that's quite endearing.

8:40 I’ll give you Pikmin 1 since it was the final boss with 30 000 HP (for reference, that would take 3000 hits to take down, and 2000 for Reds), but Pikmin 2? No. They only have 1300 HP, with the one in the Bulblax Kingdom having 1800. That’s less health than a fiery bulblax. Not to mention, Purples do 20 damage, meaning it only takes 65 (90) Purple attacks to take out one. Emperor Bulblax in Pikmin 2 is a total joke, even with the rule in the Wiimake that makes it so bosses are invincible until their waking up animation is over.
