i feel you so much mique i wish i could give you a hug. i've been working in a sales company for almost seven months now and it was my first serious job experience. and like yourself i love reading and i'm pretty much a quiet person and the amount of struggle i went through to make this job work was destroying me. i had to change so much to keep my job bc i needed a job. it was soul crushing sometimes. and i just kept trying and trying to be better, to be more nicely to customers on the phone (not that i wasn't nice before i was just being me) and i had so many anxiety attacks those first months. i am better now. it's crazy how much has changes in a short amount of time but for the most part i'm happy to say i survived. and i'm sure you will too. either on this job or you'll find a better one i'm sure of it. i wish you the best of luck and just know that you're not alone

I am so sorry about the insane stress you're under, I can relate to the expensive rent and long travel times. It's good that you have your family around you and are not there by yourself. As you said you have risen to the challenge, gone outside your comfort zone, and that's something few accomplish. You always have a community here on youtube to vent towards as well. 🤗🤗🤗 I had to move from canada to the states for school and being out there on my own, not being allowed to work, and seeing the insane amount of debt (US student tuition prices- that I had to pay with the canadian dollar) lead to many break downs. KZbin has been great for allowing me to interact with people because now that i've graduated I'm still living away from home but to introverted to make friends in real life 😅 Wish you lots of love, I hope your next read is 5 stars, and that you find a job that you passionately love :)

I haven't seen such a video from you before - and I must say, I am highly impressed by your handling of the struggles you've encountered. You have been so mature, persistent, honest, and open-minded that I feel proud of you! It's completely okay to break down and have hyperemotional moments in times like these; the trick is to get back up and continue onward once each such moment is over. That's what you seem to have been doing, and that's something to feel good about. Keep forging ahead! 🤗🤗🤗

Mique I'm so sorry that you are struggling. My job advice if you need to find a new one: lie. Don't tell the truth about how much education you have if it is the kind of job you don't need it for. I went back to work about 5 years ago in retail and told them I only had a 2 year post high school degree. I knew they'd never hire me if I told the truth. Mental health is such a bitch and it sucks all around that it isn't care for it isn't more widely available. Glad you got a place to live. I believe in you!

Where you were, are, and will be are all different and things are forever moving and changing and you are going to be ok. Life here in nor California is really hard on rent too. I make well over minimum wage and I still need roommates to share rent with. It's really hard and I can totally relate. You are a good person and it really shines through and I'm sure that's what that company saw in you and if they let you go that just means it's you life moving and making room for a new opportunity and it will be for the better. ♥️We're here supporting you!

Hey Mique - omg :( what a hard time. I am a long time subscriber and Sydneysider, but moved to the Blue Mountains a couple of years ago. I still commute into the city most days of the week. I must say that there are nice places to rent outside of the city, and a bit cheaper, but inner Sydney renting is just soul crushing, we went through a decade of it and it was very very hard. I really hope your new rental works out but in case it isn’t the go, my best advice would be to look in the Inner West, try Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Earlwood etc - those suburbs that have train stations and aren’t too hard to get to the city from. It’s not as pretty as the eastern suburbs but they’re still nice, have plenty of services, lots of young people and creative types, and it can be a bit cheaper (also less rich people who don’t understand the struggle…). Kings Cross, Potts Point etc, are the most expensive suburbs of the city. The other advice would be that there are a lot of universities in Sydney and the university sector is much nicer to work in than corporate sales. I’m not sure what your quals are but really look out for any university jobs you can see, apply for anything you are remotely qualified for, even if you don’t have the exact number of years of experience. Apologies if this isn’t very helpful, you’re probably already on top of all of it! Sydney is a hard city to find a break in but it does come - my first year of living here was pretty hard (coming from a regional area when I was 24) but things got better after that! Wish I could offer you more help - if there are any specific Sydney questions you need answers to I can try my best! Thank you for all the good horror lit content over the last couple of years, I can tell from your depth of insight that you’ve got so much to offer any workplace so don’t be discouraged by the pressure to make sales, if it falls through there will be another business out there that will recognise you for your talents I’m sure. 🤗

I am so sorry to hear you are going through so much, it sucks big time when everything is happening . Life sometimes doesn't let up, but you will be able look back on this and see what you have got through. I have lived all over Australia, I am an Aussie but I grew up in Singapore and then moved back to Aus on my own when I was 18 and at one stage I lived in Sydney for a few years, and it sucked! This was probably about 20 years ago now (look at me saying probably to try and make myself not feel old, it was 20 years ago) and the rent was crazy back then, getting a job was also difficult, and I spent so much of my life on the train, I can only imagine what it is like now with the rental crisis we are going through. You are awesome and you will get through this, and there are many other awesome places in Australia to try 😂🤗

From someone who has been knee deep in your situation before: everything truly will be okay. I know it's hard to believe right now but it will be. You are amazing and doing your best considering the circumstances you've been dealt upon moving there. Financial hardship is absolute shit and no one deserves to endure it. You're on the right track of searching for other jobs. You will find one! If you get let go from this current one, pick up PT jobs (retail, food, etc) in the meantime to keep an income going. Stick to a bare bones budget for now if you're starting to run low on $, with the occasional weekly treat to yourself if your budget has some wiggle room (whether that's a takeout meal on Friday or going to the movies on a Saturday). That's what I did! The rest can go to bills and your savings, if you don't have any extra debt (which I unfortunately do - student loans suck lol). And continue room hunting. You are not a burden! As for feeling like you're not the right fit, I will say this: every time you upload a video about books, you've convinced me and I'm sure a majority of your viewers on whether or not we should read a book based on your opinion. You have a sharp, honest, funny delivery every single time! As your subscribers, we think you're awesome and have what it takes 👏 Hang in there and take it one day at a time. You will find another better job. You will find a place to live. We're all manifesting this for you!

i'm from the us but i relate to so much of what you're going through. i graduated college in 2020 and it took me months to find a job. i was applying to every job posting i saw but only a select few were actually hiring even though every company claims they don't get any applicants because no one wants to work🙄i finally found a remote job that was similar to what you're doing now, and as an introvert i was completely miserable having to sell products on the phone all day. i had to quit for my mental health and couldn't find another job for a few months after that. i have a job at a non profit that i've been doing for over a year now and i really enjoy it but the pay is so low i know i need to find a new job to afford to live. however i genuinely have so much trauma from all the terrible interviews and job hunting that i experienced that i'm terrified to put myself through that again. anyway hope it all works out for you thanks for sharing what you're going through and know that you're not alone❤

Sending so much positive energy and vibes that things fall into place for you! As someone who has been laid off my first job post-grad school due to being educationally "overqualified" and therefore "overpaid", and then kicked out of multiple apartments due to landlord pandemic greed, I feel so hard for what you're going through. Hey Mique, I come from a marketing/advertising background and went through the same thing during the pandemic. I worked at a very fratty logistics company where I was expected to do cold calls. I had talked to my manager about moving to an Account Executive role. Granted, you are needing to meet the requirement of reaching a successful sale, but after that, perhaps you can talk to some people about other options within the company. If they do, then use that time to accrue experience, ramp up your resume, and keep applying to different jobs. Jobs like that suck and should be a means to an end. I work for Indeed now doing a job that is so so much better and not soul-sucking. No listening to Tony Robbins clips with slow music in the background is needed. If you ever need help with your resume lmk but this part of life is definitely not one I'd want to repeat,. It is awkward and scary. But there is a way out. You won't fail, you will just pivot.

I'm glad you are putting this out in the world because your struggles accurately represent what life is like in many developed countries right now, and what it has been like for many for years. My experiences have been in Europe, and it definitely felt like you could be talking about Netherlands, Germany, France, Portugal, anywhere. I think luck plays a big factor, especially in getting your first job, and especially having it be a match. Learning a foreign language helps a LOT, especially in the corporate world where English is often the main language in email and meetings but behind the scenes to build relationships and rapport the native languages can be used. Since I speak German I was able to use that to get a decent first job and it's helped sustain me since, but I remember very well starting off like you with these soul crushing awful jobs. I was stuck at call centers for like a year or so, and I'm like you, I can't sell shit and I don't respond to nasty or confrontational people well in a job environment when they're clients. But it does get better, and my tip for you is to try a smaller city first where rent and expenses are lower while you gain experience if you want to stay in Australia. Once you get enough experience you can demand higher salaries in your field of choice and then move to a bigger city. Again, thank you very much for sharing this with us, and happy you read some good books in the meantime too. Wish you all the best and good luck going forward.

Retail is ass, dealing with the general public is a complete shitshow that definitely requires a certain personality that not everyone has and I feel like most people know within a week whether or not they’re that person. I lucked into a field I love (I currently work with autistic children and before that I worked with adults with intellectual disabilities) which thank fuck, and I hope you’re able to get into something better or at least less terrible to at least get you through to what you actually want to do. And you totally just moved Children On The Hill up my tbr, I’ve had it literally since it came out and haven’t touched it yet. Long time subscriber- I wanted to comment and manifest that things get better for you in Sydney, Australia - as an Australian and who used to live in Sydney it is tough. If you have any questions, I’m always happy to help. I will say, you are right that if you can live with renting further out from the city with a good train line that would be cheaper. I used to live in the suburbs (Epping) and the city was always 30 minutes or so away by train. If you can swing it, a 9 to 5 job saved me because weekends are my safe space for reading and relaxing haha

Oh boy, yes!! The major cities in Australia are so massive that an hour+ on public transport is a normal part of living and working there. The payoff is supposed to be the 4 weeks of annual leave plus 2 weeks sick leave and lots of long holiday weekends. But even making the best of that was before housing became truly unaffordable. It does 100% suck. The current housing crisis and the way covid interrupted the transition from education to work is just as exhausting as you described. I hope you are able to keep the rental and find a better fitting job for you. You are right - you have tried SO HARD and done everything right. If it doesn't work out it won't be because you didn't want it bad enough.

🤗 Sending you hugs. I hope things get better soon and that you get the booking you need to keep this job or that you find a better job pretty soon. And of course a place to live too. You are certainly not alone in struggling right now. Life for my family has been hard this past year and it's been hard. I have alao struggled my whole life with depression and anxiety. I'm 48 and I don't want to say that to depress you, just to let you know that in my experience things cycle. This may be a low point in your life right now, but better times are coming. This life us an up and down. You are so brave to up and move and try your luck in another country. You should be super proud of yourself for that. And even if this adventure doesn't work out the way you wanted, even if it sucks right now, or it sucks to move back home, years from now you will look back and be proud of yourself for trying. There will be lots of things from this trip that helped you grow. I promise. Also thank you for the book recs. I added two more books to my infinite TBR. I don't think I have ever commented on your channel (and I am a newer follower) but I love your personality and the way you talk about books. Again, hang in there and chin up. Be proud of yourself for what you are trying to do and have done trying to better yourself.

I know life sucks right now, but I hope everything works out!! Right now I also have a job that I don’t feel I’m the right fit for. They promised me that I’d be their office manager and that they were growing so I would get regular raises and bonuses. But I work alone (no one to manage) and they don’t want to get too big (capping the growth opportunity). Just beef up your resume and maybe even try to find a headhunter out there who can advocate for you, if the worst case scenario happens. Best of luck! 🤗

i also moved to a first world country and can relate to everything you've been telling. you can't get a job you're qualified for bc you don't know anyone who would recommend you and you can't get a supermarket job or smth bc they say you're overqualified🙄 i've been in the same limbo you're in now for a long time and i don't have any good advice - just keep trying and hoping for the best ig?🤗

It sounds like all of us immigrants go through the same path no matter the year or decade. Nothing is worse than job and income uncertainties. please try to find a good recruiter and have a LinkedIn profile too. I am glad you are turning to books. That is the best therapy. Warm hugs.

Summer Never Ends sounds amazing. I started Into The Wolves Den as a sample and I need to read that asap. I'm sorry you're going through so many stressful things right now. I also had thr worst year of my life recently and looking back in a way I'm glad I went through it.....sortof🙄. I have learned that no matter how bad life is, it will pass and get better. I'm a fellow sufferer of anxiety and depression. And I mean pretty bad, especially the anxiety. I recently gave in and started a medication and honestly its been great. Its really really helped my mood. Ok I feel like I went on a little rant. I'm also dealing with the high price of a place to live. I want to find my own place but live in an area where people with good full time jobs still can't afford to live alone. Hey, come to America, we'll get a place🤣🤣🤣. Anyway I hope things get better soon for you. Hang in there.

Is it of any consolation to say that finding a decent job in Argentina also sucks and rents are sky high because of the economic recession? But here in third world banana country of mine is how we've been living since forever; except if you're in the 1% rich or you're a corrupt politician, those are all rich assh**** 🤗

🤗 🤗 I know what you’re dealing with!! My wife is a senior account executive for a major media (TV) outlet in the US! She hustles *hard* in a (straight) man’s world (she’s obvi gay affff🥰🥰). Are you on linked in?? If so, maybe she can help you🤷🏼‍♀️ or just support you! She hustles from 7AM to usually 7-8 PM. I believe in you 💯 ETA- I’m so excited to add some of these books to my TBR!!! We have the same taste in books! But, I don’t do manga. I think I’m too old lol!! Best of luck and lots of luck and hugs 🤗

🫂 I understand so much. I got fired from a job that sounds just like the one you are at. They told me I'm just too nice. They didn't want someone who would take no for an answer. It did definitely get better. Years later I have a really great job. Panic attacks are the worst. Ignore the boomers, they literally didn't struggle like this and don't understand. Try to hang in there. One day this time in your life will be a faint memory. 💕
