Everything That Can Go Wrong On Gorseval - Gorseval Guide

Hey guys !
Here's a written version with a couple of things I left out :
The first mechanic you'll encounter is the slams, Gorseval will smash the ground and knock everyone back. The usual way to deal with it as of writing this is to have aegis/stability for it.
Gorse will then gain a defiance bar, during which he'll have a retaliation-like buff hitting players back every time they hit him. Abilities hitting mutliple times should be used with caution during that time. The other thing happening during the cc phase are the big black circles exploding everywhere dealing a lot of damage.
After that gorse will spawn a few adds. They can cc you and generally be annoying so they should be pulled and killed before going in the split phase.
Gorse will then start channeling a big one shot attack that can be avoided in two ways. The "intended" one is to destroy one of the walls around the arena and glide at the right moment so everyone is in the air as it explodes. Be careful not to go too early tho, as the updraft despawns after a small timer after one person used it. Going too early would then make it despawn for everyone and result in their death. The other way, more common nowadays, is to simply dps the boss until he reaches 66% of his health as it will interrupt his attack and make the fight progress to the next phase.
At 66% and 33% health Gorseval will be invulnerable in the middle and 4 spirits will appear and start walking towards him. They can be crippled, immobilized, chilled, slowed but not stunned/pulled/knocked back etc. If one of them reaches the middle, it'll get eaten and power a big one shot aoe that can't be avoided from gorseval resulting in a wipe.
After the first split phase is done orbs will start spawning around the arena. They create an expanding aoe around them which will put 10 stacks of a debuff on any player stepping in them. The debuff makes you deal less damage and damages you periodically. To get rid of it you need to kill an orb and collect two little yellow orbs.
After the second split phase the last mechanic will come into play, little circles will appear at everyone's feet and trap anyone standing inside. They make blue "eggs" appear around the trapped player, preventing them from moving or attacking. The only skill available will be your auto attack which will do a bit of damage on the egg. Other players can also damage the eggs to free their friends.

so during the CC phase is it best to just slow down and auto attack instead of continuing your rotation so that you dont die from retaliation?

depends what you're playing, if it's a very fast hitting build like ele or DH yeah you should be careful but for the latter you can just use litany of wrath to negate it and just carry on normally. Really depends on what you're playing and how fast the cc is (also how good you healers are)

Should really add that most classes can deal with retaliation during the CC phase on their own, like dragonhunter players can use litany of wrath right before their burst to stay at full health the entire time Really weird how you left out the main strategy of this boss being that you have to phase him to 66/33/dead to avoid the wipe, and not even a mention of slow/slow/fast CC or health %s to generally CC at General strategy is to delay CC as long as your team can to get in extra damage and make reaching the phase at 66/33 easier With modern raid strategies and builds/rotations, this boss is very easy and the only real places you lose are when multiple players are hit by a slam and knocked down or multiple players stand in the eggs and thus you dont have enough DPS to phase gors in time, or players dying to retaliation or holding back DPS to not die, which I mentioned earlier is a very easy mechanic to avoid (I never worry about it on warrior ether because blood reckoning functions the same way as litany of wrath, letting me use my biggest damage multihit on axe5 without even losing any health) basically the only thing that really goes wrong on gors nowadays is ur firebrand forgetting to press the aegis button on slams, people being dumb and standing in eggs, and low dps pug players

Hey, the aim was to give an overview of the mechanics and explain how they work rather than give the current strategy which could change next balance patch, I do however mention that you can skip the one shot by phasing gorse with enough dps. As for most classes being able to deal with retal it's only dh/fbd and warrior so I'm not sure it would have been that relevant in this video. Also fast fast slow is yikeroo

@@scwestet >change next balance patch Yeah because forcing players to use updrafts is high on anet's priority list LOL the gorse fight is not going to change anytime soon, or ever, there's no reason to not tell new people that phasing to 66%/33% is the standard way of doing things and yeah war/DH are very relevant classes, especially on gorse, EVERY squad is going to have at least one of them, and probably both
