"Everything That Glitters Is Not Gold" Sung by Dan Seals
Saw your picture on a poster in a cafe out in Phoenix
Guess you're still the sweetheart of the rodeo
As for me and little Casey, we still make the circuit
In a one horse trailer and a mobile home
And she still asks about you all the time
And I guess we never even cross your mind
Chorus:
But, Oh sometimes I think about you
And the way you used to ride out
In your rhinestones and your sequins
With the sunlight on your hair
And oh, the crowd will always love you
But as for me I've come to know
Everything that glitters is not gold
Well Old Red, he's getting older
And last Saturday he stumbled
But you know I just can't bear to let him go
Little Casey, she's still growing
And she's started asking questions
And there's certain things a man just doesn't know
Her birthday came and you never even called
I guess we never cross your mind at all
Notable songs include:

My dad died in an industrial accident when I was seven and my brother was four. My poor mom was do sick. She had cancer. She struggled making 35.00 cents an hour to raise us. I was baby sitter because we couldn't afford one. She lived to see and hold my two boys when they were babies. I'll never forget all her sacrifices. I love you, Mom!

No not triggered and no boyfriend, same wife for 24 years and 2 sons as well. One wants to drive a truck for a living but you are the reason I’m trying to tell him to stay away from MY profession. I appreciate your reply and the way you judged right off the bat, makes me happy that me and many many others actually stayed away from our family for 2-3 years at a time for those fine people such as yourself. My wife took a job in the city 3 hrs away. She lived down there all week and came home for the weekend. I took care of our two boys and worked a 40 hour per week job. She eventually met someone else down there and quit coming home on weekends. I made excuses for her to the boys. They don't know the heart break I still feel. But they've grown up and are two fine men. Miss you Dan. The world was a better place with you in it.

You are right, but men too. Not all men are/could be amazing husbands and fathers. My father is the perfect example of this. 22 years of marriage (now my mom is leaving him) and 20 years as a parent, and he is still mean, abusive and sexist. I'm better off without him. You, instead, seem like an amazing man and dad, and I'm sure your daughter is happy to have you.

Kid across the rode from me has 2 moms as parents and the one whose the more motherly wasnt even born a woman I don't think. The "father" one had surgery to be a guy (like up top reduction surgery) and he, she, her what TF ever, looks like a lil pretty @ss flat chested college chick still. Talk about needing classes to procreate. They need thorough mental evaluations before just my couple can adopt. I feel for that lil boy and he keeps coming cross the road talking to me wanting to play catch lol. I put him up a basketball goal I fixed up out the trash. It's kinda like nature has him gravitating towards a real man and boyish things if you feel me. I can tell he prolly gets picked at in school cause he gets off the bus looking all sad n sht. Its gonna be hard for the lil fella when he gets older but hopefully tictok and social media in general, don't end up brainwashing him like his weirdo parents. They pushing that crap on lil kids and it ain't right. To me if someone wants to be gay or whatever they call all that stuff then just be gay or be no sex or two sexes if ya want, just leave the God blessed little kids out of it til they mature. And ny teacher that wants to throw a fit on tictok cause they can't tell a little 5 year old about their sex life, outta be removed from it just schools but society in general. They can have all the fun they want in prison. Them long term felons in there would appreciate it too. Edit): I didn't mean to go off and write a whole book there and I'm sorry if I offend anybody that reads this but what I said is the truth and whoever the weirdo big city latte liberal is that reads this and report me, You know I'm right on what I said. Prolly be some new York overpaid weakling that thinks since he got surgery that his tits can produce milk now and he can have periods too. #morementalhealthcheckups

All you single fathers raising your beloved children alone understand this; there will never be a bigger or better example in your childrens' lives of a stand up, loving and caring person than you. How you loved them enough to bust your behind to keep them safe and happy will always be deeply remembered. Not just in their hearts but in their souls. Your imprint on those hearts and souls will make our country and world better by what you so selflessly did. The word "hero" is thrown around a lot now days but you, single dads, are the true heros in our midst. May G.od in heaven bless you and your children now and in the life beyond.

I cry every time I hear this song. At 27 I suddenly found myself a single father with 2 young children 5/6 boy/girl. If you asked her I'm sure she would have said she was a good mother and loved them but her actions always said different. They were always an after thought to her. In the end so was I. They're grown now yet despite everything sometimes at night I can still feel her body next to me.

I used to think this was just a song based on a kinda cute, very sad but ultimately make believe scenario. I guess not being married and having no kids and also living a somewhat sheltered life I took for granted that mothers didn’t abandon their children. After reading comments from a lot of men going through this had opened my eyes. God bless you strong single dads raising kids by yourselves, you are men of honor, doing right by your child regardless of the circumstances.

I had never read the comments on videos much in the past , I do try to read a few nowadays, My wife left me and my two girls after 20 years of marriage, They were elementary school age, We had just had the utilities put in before the house was done, She was nonexistant in our lives for 10 years, Just enough to cause some trouble, I thank God she just went away for the kids sake I asked the girls what they wanted to keep, the horses or the new place, we couldn't afford both at the time, they said the horses, So , as a ranching and rodeo family, we were able to keep their best friends, That first few years was tough, I watched my mother struggle as a widow when I was 12 , As a born again Christian, I must say a person understands that Jesus Christ is really all we have. As several others have commented, we made it , I have two best friends, both are ladies with a backbone of iron, Psalms 3:3

I met the man when he played at the newly opened Willies Nightlife in Houston, It was my turn to play backstage bartender, honestly, I didn't look forward to it, the gig was catering to the band and making no tip money. I was so surprised at how genuine this guy was, I asked him if I could get him something to drink, we have soda, juice, beer, liquor....he said get us a beer. I said I cant drink on the job but I'll get you one, he looked at me and said "what! are they gonna fire you for drinking a beer with me! He never drank that beer, He asked me what was my favorite song by him and I said "my old yellow car" even though "everything that glitter..." was his biggest hit and LOA was his current one. He watched me drink mine and I got him some OJ before he went on stage and made a comment about me while he was singing he sang that song and gave me a nod when he sang it, an awesome man he was concerned about the people who took care of him

Being a strong man has more to do with how tightly you hold up those around you than it is about how hard you can hit someone. Being a bold man has more to do with how soft your heart can be to those who love you than it does with how tough you appear on the outside. Being a man has everything to with love and nothing to do with hate. Thanks for sharing that story. Sounds like he was a good man!

This is real country music, not the teen-pop that floods the radio these days. If you hear a song and it makes you think of horses or mountains or rodeos or dry flat land for 600 miles to Denver then you have yourself a country song and a treasure.

I was pregnant when my baby's father and I had broken up 25 years ago, I broke down and cried every time I would hear this song because I knew that he would not be a part of her life. When I heard the little girl's name in this song, I knew that this was going to be my daughters name. The name felt like it had been sent down from heaven just for her.....CONTINUED ABOVE.

I bawl my eyes out every time I hear this song. Especially now since a couple weeks ago, my Penelope had to get put down at the age of 20. I have had her since I was almost two. I'm almost 22 now. My heart is completely broken for my horse. She was a beautiful Palomino. I'm almost 22 and was raised on this kind of music. Not that crap in today's world. This music is what my children WILL be raised on as well. Love it. ❤

jjj023 You are definitely right about that one. I just wish our pets were able to live as long as us. Haha. I'm just so glad she's not in anymore pain. Seeing her struggle to walk was just as heartbreaking as letting her go. So knowing that she isn't hurting anymore helps me cope with it better. On the plus side, I just got another Palomino almost 2 weeks ago and her name is Charlotte. She's 4, looks almost exactly like my Penelope, and I Couldn't be happier.❤

Fortunately I was able to raise my four daughters in an intact home. Their Mom and I were both "stayers" through thick and thin. And, believe me, there was plenty of thin. Yet, I have lived out the sad sentiment in this song repeated in the lives of my girls and the worthless men who have darkened their lives from time to time. This sword cuts both ways. I'm sure I don't have to remind many of you of this. Wish I could write songs like this!
