Today we go through the grocery list of everything that is wrong with my 2004 VW R32 that I bought new and have driven 174,000 miles, and make a plan to fix it all. How hard could it possible be?
I hope this gives you something to amuse you for a little while. Why not check out some of my other videos while you've got some idle time on your hands?
Make sure to like, subscribe, and share if you are a car enthusiast who enjoys working on your own car as a shade tree mechanic or fellow grease monkey, or if you just enjoy watching the misery of trying to keep one of the best driving cars ever produced in actual running condition!
Not even Ratarossa, Scotty Kilmer, The Car Wizard, Johnny the Car Ninja, Hoovie or Tavarish would dare tackle the insanity of resurrecting and modifying a 208,000 mile Corrado VR6 at the same time as a vintage Fiat Spider and maintaining a 240,000 mile 1.8t Jetta while tooling around in a 174,000 mile Mk4 R32 daily driver!! But I'm a special kind of crazy.
If you have an .:R32, Corrado, Fiat, Alfa, or some other weird quirky car that is a challenge to keep on the road, please share in the comments! If you've got a Sequoia, have pity on the other car owners whose vehicles will not outlast the rest of civilization as we know it.

Just stumbled on this because I’m a VW guy, so the algorithm did it’s thing and I happen to watch the video because well…..R32….so first let me start by saying nice job keeping a car that long and taken such good car of it. But I gotta say that’s a ton of issues to fix and probably not really worth all the time to do it, not to mention the money it’ll take to fix all that. Lucky for you I’m willing to help you out my friend, I willing to buy it off ya for a great price and since I have tons of money I can easily fix all of that to perfect OEM spec condition. And of course you can always buy it back down the road if ya want. And no I’m not a bot…just sarcastic and wish I had bought a R32 when I had the chance in 2007 instead buying a BMW which about broke me 😂 for real tho, nice R32! You got my sub

I'm lucky to have a clean BMP cloth, they can bury me in it. Your 1st R32 video was good.

Vent to the atmosphere, Gruven sells a piece of hardline so you can run it under the car and not smell oil.

Awesome video Brendan! She's a beauty! I feel your laundry list of things to do hahaha. I'm actually in the process of pulling the whole engine out from my 04' R32 to do the timing chains and clutch, as well as some other clean up "while im in there"!

If you have the tools it’s a good idea to pull out the engine. I replaced my clutch and timing chains 7 yrs ago and it was a lot to do and remembering everything where it goes. so far no issues.

Such a great example of a mkiv : ) What are the specs on the HREs? And color? They look great against DBP!

Thanks! They're C21's in 18x8.5" in gloss charcoal. They were used, formerly on a Subaru... I traded three sets of wheels for them, including my former TSW Nurburgrings, which I was honestly very happy with. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to work a deal to get these though.

Have you ever had the exhaust solenoid go bad to where it makes a whistling or buzzing sound when you come off the throttle? I need help figuring out how to replace that part or stop it from getting vacuum so the noise goes away. Enjoy all your videos!

It is really easy to modify a car, and it is very hard to keep a car the way it came out of the factory. It would look much better with the stock wheels and all of the added stuff.

There are those who leave things alone, and those who customize to fit their own tastes. Since I bought the car new and plan on never selling it, doesn't really matter what others think of my particular customizations, since I like them, and I'm the one driving the car enjoying it. I still have the stock boat anchor wheels (29lbs each) but they're residing on my son's Jetta. I go more for the low unsprung weight for better handling and road feel.
