The whole argument about which is better, Alien or Aliens, honestly comes down to personal preference. There are some things Alien does better, and some things Aliens does better. I personally prefer Aliens, but that's due to me likening action over horror.

@@JaelinBezel I've read quite a few Alien comics, including the Batman/Aliens one. It was a fun weird take on the horror icons through the Batman lens. The interesting thing to remember about the EWWCS series is that it is not about defending movies, but rather nipping at CinemaSins' heels for providing misinformation and just heckling the movie. This is so they can improve and provide actually useful commentary.

It seriously boggles the mind that a guy is able to make a living by trash-talking the efforts of creatively superior individuals. I'd love to see him try and make a movie of his own someday. There would probably be a hilariously long list of real directors pointing out everything wrong with it. I'd almost be willing to produce his movie just to ensure that outcome ended up happening.

The 20 milion tons of ore thing is even possible today. As the worlds largest mobile ore/rock crusher can produce 2500 tons per hour. Next day he's paralyzed on that side and come to find out for sure, he had a stroke. Months of rehabilitation later and he could still barely walk, talk right, play video games, anything. You know, I've been thinking recently about why Cinamasins seems so unwilling to listen to criticism and change their video's quality. Most people point to its effectiveness at making them money, and blame greed, but I beleve It's more nuanced than that. There is a line from a song that perfectly sums up what I think: "Greed, ya see, is like a little pet And the more and more you feed it The more hungry it will get But you can't really blame greed You see, It's gotta worm inside It's one that always needs to feed And it is never satisfied But the more you try to find it The more it likes to hide It is a nasty little worm And I like to call it -- Pride" When you criticize someone, you are effectively assaulting their ego, and if their ego is big and/or fragile enough, they will commonly use one or both of two coping mechanisms: lash out or ignore it. And Cinemasins seems quite adept at using the latter.

Like you wouldn't compare Blade Runner to Minority Report because they're both sci-fi. Alien is a MASTERPICE of Sci-fi Horror, and Aliens is a MASTERPICE of sci-fi Action. Another thing to add that you missed. The massive structure isn't the Nostromo. The Nostromo is literally just a tugboat at the front of said structure. The structure itself is the Refinery it's towing, which is likely just some orbital structure not intended for atmosphere, so it doesn't need to be at all aerodynamic. The Nostromo itself, however, looks a bit more aerodynamic, and what do you know, when it detaches from the Refinery to land on LV-426, hey, it flies in atmosphere!

On the age thing: Alien takes a lot from H.P. Lovecraft, and the crashed ship is an analogous for the ruins in At the Mountains of Madness. So much of Prometheus parallels At the Mountains of Madness, with the ancient race - The Elder Things - descending from the stars and distributing life with their bioengineering skill. The scene in Alien with the dead alien in the wreckage is an homage to a section of the Elder Things’ history where their creations rose up against them.

10:10 There’s also the possibility that a Xenomorph’s blood doesn’t take on acidic properties due to the chemical reaction Birdman pointed out. Presumably, there is oxygen on the ship, and acid corrosion is intensified by oxygen, meaning the alien’s blood became more corrosive when exposed to oxidants in the “atmosphere” of the ship.

I was curious if 20m tons of ore would fit on a reasonably sized spacecraft. The length of the ship in the film is a reasonable ~1000ft long and the mineral would most likely be something valuable, after some research it seems gold is a likely candidate for the "mineral ore". It is definitely possible for 20m tons of ore to fit on that ship, plus the equipment to process it. Easily. Furthermore, it would only around 2 years of 24/7 operation for one current day processing plant to process that ore, so in the future is HIGHLY likely it could be done MUCH quicker. Fun fact, if the ore was iron, it would just barely be more than the volume of the ship. anything about twice as dense or more would fit on the ship. Gold, tungsten, iridium, and uranium are all likely candidates to me considering value and density, but I'm fairly sure the writers for the film adaption of the book explained they intended it to be gold, though I only read that, i didn't verify it.

"Alien is better than Aliens." I would argue that Metroid is indeed better than Metroid 2. And that Zero Mission is better than Samus Returns. So I agree with your statement, regardless of how I feel about the movies.

i will say, the "signal" is never called a distress signal. Kane asks "S.O.S?" and Dallas says "Unknown." Ripley ask "Human?" and again he replies "Unkown." so it is more than reasonable to sin them investigating the planet with out at least attempting to decipher the message.

Every time I hear Jeremy try to "Explain" something, my brain immediately goes "What the fuck are you saying? I consider myself a small movie critic but when I criticise a movie, my logic about what's wrong with it seems a lot more better than Jeremy's babbling bullshit. I'm definitely binge watching this Playlist of the Birdman.

Another thing about the growth stage of the alien.... it wasn't hours. Given some fairly reasonable assumptions, it could have been a few days.

If by rip apart you mean slightly nibble on it's ankles before they chip their own tooth then yeah. Seriously, nothing they said was substantial in the slightest.

To be fair a spaceship being aerodynamic is a good thing. Sure there's no air, but there is debris and particles. Better to deflect those that to full on take them onto a flat surface

AYYY! I finally caught a new video! I’ve been meaning to ask, what makes the sins you talk about in your videos significant compared to the rest? How do you choose to talk about and what not to? Anyway keep up the good work, I love your vids! Looking forward to a possible response :)

Based on other videos where he's talked about this point, it seems he cuts certain sins because it's just Jeremy spewing verbal diarrhea and/or making a lengthy, pointless joke that has no bearing on the film.
@delayed_reaction_man

@@rokuspace Yes, he skips over certain sins because he doesn't want his video to be too boring for viewers. This is why he is one of the few KZbinrs where I actually watch his videos multiple times. They are simple to consume; a key ingredient to making timeless content.

I really hope the process of scuttling ships becomes widely enough known that people will stop criticizing complicated self-destruct sequences. It's a thing military ships do to prevent the vessel from falling into enemy hands. The Bismark was scuttled to prevent the allies from claiming it, for example. The best part of the Nostromo self-destruct is that you can actually see it refer to the self-destruct instructions as the "Scuttle Procedure".
