So Jeremy actually missed that there's an explanation for why the neighbor is blue, you just have to pay attention and be knowledgeable. He has a form of radiation poisoning, something real people have had happen to them, most notably the surviving crew of workers who helped stabilize Chernobyl when it melted down. They gave these workers a medal to commemorate their sacrifice and the neighbor has one of these medals on his chest at all times. So he's blue because he helped prevent a nuclear disaster at Chernobyl

Apparently, Neil Gaiman had difficulty getting the original novel published, since many publishers thought that it was too scary for young children. So, he had his coworker's young daughter read the novel. She approved it, and it was published, yet years later, confessed to Gaiman that she was terrified, but wanted to find out what happened next.

When I was 12, my English teacher approached me privately before class started and handed me the book from her shelf. She was an older, grandmother looking sort, and she said that she thought I would really enjoy it. So I read it. I was fucking terrified, but absolutely fascinated by it. It was the first piece of horror media that I actually enjoyed despite being scared. Of course I had nightmares, was always prone to night terrors as a kid, but I never regretted reading it. It really helped me open up to other horror media.

I haven't seen Coraline but the fact that she asks for a mango milkshake right after the poison oak scene was definitely on purpose. Either to show that rules of the world she's now in are different or maybe, just maybe, this is an actual example of the "they were dead the whole time" trope.

"Are kids even worth listening to?" Yes?? Part of the responsibility of being a parent is to engage in your children and their way of viewing the world even if it's exaggerated or "not worth listening to" Particularly in this case where it's noted that the reason Caroline's parents don't respond to her properly isn't because what she's saying isn't worth listening to but because _she's_ not worth listening to. Being emotionally detached does awful things to a child, such as lowering a child's self esteem, resentment and making them seek attention elsewhere, something Coraline shows

EXACTLY. Children are still human beings. Do they seriously think that talking about a child voicing her concerns for her safety/life with the same disdain one would use for a whining dog is okay??? Even if something happened to a kid that WAS over-exaggerated and/or not actually dangerous, _the FEAR is still just as real, and will still affect the child AND their mind/body just as much as it would an adult who actually DID have their life threatened._ *_Threats to your life, be they real or perceived, WILL affect your mind and harm your body if it is repeated and never addressed. On the Mango Milkshake sin, it is established the Otherworld is magic, and soft magic at that, given the lack of rules. So Coraline could have a Mago Milkshake and not suffer any Allergic reaction. That's what I'm saying. Further more what's wrong with HORROR movies for kids? Horror movies are better off separated from non horror, but anyone who thinks that means you can't make a kids horror movie isn't paying attention, and that thinking is what brought us to Bloomfield movies that feel like r rated Disney Channel original Halloween special movies. Making the childhood horror movies actually for kids let's us have great content for kids and then have an autistic kid get beheaded for a god to rise in adult movies.

I personally think that theory makes a lot of sense. Apparently the "official" reason for Mr. Bobinski's discolored skin is due to heavy consumption of beets. Interesting point at 8:09. If Coraline had a poison oak allergy, she could possibly have a mango allergy too. It may just be a coincidence, but Coraline is known for having obscure details such as the double O loop on the Welcome Home cake. In fact, that scene happens seconds after she drinks the mango milkshake.

15:40 also I heard that in the book/novel version of Coraline she actually did call the police, but they weren’t helpful at all and literally just told her to have some hot chocolate to feel better or something

Jeremy points at Coraline and complains about how she's obnoxious when that's sort of the whole point. Most parents who watched this films would probably relate heavily to their kids pestering them during a super stressful period while they're just trying to make ends meet. When her parents have finished the catalogue and can finally give Coraline more attention, the days finally go from cloudy/rainy to sunny. The entire point is that the Beldam is taking advantage of families at their most vulnerable. Coraline feels isolated and alone, pushes away people trying to get to know her. Hey, the Beldam sounds like it could be an allegory for something! The movie is a cautionary tale for both parents *and* children.

Even if this movie was made for kids, what’s the matter with that ? Is a good introduction of horror for many kids like how it was for me, do you expect that kids go from Halloween specials to midsommar without a middle ground ?

I remember when this came out oj home released with the 3D version. Also my youngest sister was in first grade and had no issues. It is on the parents to determine what they think their kids are okay with. There are some 80s movies that are rated PG but definitely wasn't meant for kids especially the little ones.

8:13 this is just a theory, but the mango milkshake probably isn't even real as the Beldam made everything up with magic... or something like that. Maybe Coraline likes the taste of mango but can't eat it, so a mango shake that doesn't trigger her allergies would make the world seem more like a dream come true. Beldam can cure a rash so it isn't impossible Though the fact Coraline is casually gulping it down like it's a delicacy is still a little odd. Perhaps she thinks she'll be fine assuming this is a dream. Probably why she asked for it in the first place. Either way clever setup for that sin earlier in the video lmao have a good one

I always figured the mango milkshake bit was a demonstration of the Other Mother's power and something she used to further hook Coraline. Everything in the Otherworld is held together by pure magic, so it's likely the mango wasn't real mango, just mango-flavored. Maybe Coraline really wanted to try a mango milkshake at some point despite her allergy (which as someone with lactose intolerance, I can 100% relate,) and the Other Mother read that in her.
