Hell most of the time in the Scream movies it’s just that, an excuse. I doubt Rian Johnson making one bad Stab movie was the only think keeping Ritchie and Amber from becoming serial killers, Ritchie was clearly already not all there, he made very disturbing looking Stab fan films and his entire family is out of their minds for gods sake

It's definitely a weird comment. Serial killers kill most often due to impulse or gratification. I would hazard a guess and say that very few, if any, serial killers ever killed a victim for the kind of necessary reasons a non serial killer might.

@@idunnoman9402 no the 5 is shaped like an S so it would be a stylistic way of incorporating the number into the title just like what they did for Scream 4, where they replaced the 'a' with the 4 so it read as SCRE4M. everyone hates scream (2022's) title because it makes it seem like a reboot of the original despite it being a sequel, and most people agree Scream 5 woulda been a far better name but Jeremy was just suggesting a stylistic way of incorporating the 5 into the title. It would still be read as "Scream 5" even if it was 5cream

9:54 A potential missed opportunity on the Dawson’s Creek sin: first, yes, it is absolutely a nod to Kevin Williamson, who wrote Screams 1, 2, and part of 4, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and created Dawson’s Creek. But the issue with the episode referencing Scream could be resolved by thinking that in this universe, it’s referencing Stab instead. Also, sinning a film designed to comment on requels for including a nod back to the original movie, something that requels do with MUCH LESS TACT!

The Scream franchise is probably the most consistently good slasher franchise I've watched. It's by no means perfect, and there are definitely a couple weak entries. But I largely enjoyed most of the movies. Say, since you've seen all of them too, how would rank all the current Scream movies?

Honestly what always bothered be about the Stab franchise in these movies is how massive it is. Like the first movie Stab movie is essentially a drama about real life kids getting butchered, how does that lead to people gleefully dressing as Ghostface to screenings of it, a profitable franchise of nonsensical time travel based sequels, a Broadway musical (seen in promotional material for Scream 6) and merchandise up the wazoo? Especially since in universe Stab has inspired multiple real life serial killers. It’s like if a Columbine movie got a load of sequels, inspired people to dress in leather trench coats to screenings and had a Broadway musical despite it inspiring millions of kids to do school shootings, it’s always felt off to me

Except it's actually super true to life in that regard, as the Scream franchise itself is inspired by the serial-killings of the Gainsville Ripper, who killed 5 students in 1990 in Florida. Sure, we haven't really had the copycat problem that is inherent in the Scream universe, but we still have a 6-installment franchise that's made millions of dollars and inspired countless rips and spun off ideas. Admittedly the lack of copycats makes ours a little less weird, but I feel like the line is parallel enough for the comparison.
