Abraham pleading with God to spare Sodom because 'will not the judge of all the earth do right?' Also Abraham a few chapters later when God commands him to sacrifice his son: 'It will be done, my lord.' These chapters show that Abraham knows that God is evil. He basically has to taunt God into not just arbitrarily committing another round of genocide; he doesn't question it when he is later commanded to kill Isaac (Abraham didn't know it was a test) That he didn't reply with some variation of 'begone demon, my God would never ask such a thing,' is rather telling as to the nature of god.

I have to admit that Friendly Atheist has pretty much nailed it for me. I've known most of my life that the Bible was very hard to defend and should be considered to be mostly fictional and ridiculous. When I was growing up my family always referred to the Bible as "the Good Book" and "the Word of God." But, as Friendly Atheist makes clear in this and other videos, when you really take a closer look at the tales and history as presented in the Bible, it really doesn't even qualify as being a "good book." I think of it more as a collection of tales passed down through families who either made up the stories to entertain their children or to become known for their so-called knowledge. Good work and fine logic, Friendly Atheist - and your entertaining too!

1. 0:25 If you read the next chapter it becomes very clear why God is doing this. There is a contrast between Abraham and the men of Sodom. We see Abraham in the day (18:1) and Sodom at night (19:1). Abraham shows great hospitality to these strangers and the men of Sodom try to assault them. 2. 0:42 This tent wasn't like a tent we would go camping in today. It was most likely a pretty massive tent (similar to a bedouin tent) considering Abrahams wealth. 3. 1:10 Abraham does not know that it's "already the Lord" the word "lord" here is a word that would be used to address a man as well. Later in the chapter, Sarah uses the same word to refer to Abraham. 4. 1:23 Yes, he does go out of his way for strangers. Thats the point. Abraham was a very humble and hospitable man. 5. 1:33 We don't want to read our culture into the text. This level of hospitality could be weird to us but in the ancient near east, would this be the case? The same goes with calling the visitors ungrateful (1:39). How do you know that this wasn't a grateful answer given in a grateful tone according to the culture of the time? 6. 2:41 He was 99 years old. And i would argue that it is not easy to be hospitable when you're ordering people around. He still chose his finest flour and the best of his livestock for people he didn't even know. Thats a pretty amazing sacrifice. 7. 2:45 The mosaic dietary laws don't come until way later. 8. 2:53 What animal sacrifice are you referring to? 9. 3:39 Why do they already know her name? This is the first hint to Abraham that this is The Lord speaking 10. 3:53 Abraham would not be suspicious because God had already given Abraham this exact information in the previous chapter. That's what i have for the first 4 minutes.

I honestly don’t know how people can read a page of this, any page, and decide this is THE book, and that they want to be Christians! As an outsider, it really seems like it was a book written long ago, by people who wanted to tell others what to do, and to justify horrible behavior, like slavery and incest and murder. I’m so glad my parents just taught me right from wrong.... the Bible is so twisted, I think it warps people’s brains

Christians would force tie in the encounter story and say the 3 people were god the father, son and holy ghost. They find ways to make anything relate to any belief they have

@@jayt9608 All christians trinitarian or not butcher OT stories to fit their Paulian religion beliefs. Granted the NT writers and editors made claims and narratives to make some things somewhat fit OT stories but modern day christians take it a lot further

So didn't Sarah and Abraham live to be 600? I always just assumed that when they were 90 their bodies would be like a 20 year olds. If you had to live that long but had a decrepit old person body for most of that time it would suck so much

Its interesting people devote so much effort, energy and time into something they don't believe in. I will say it's good that you devoting hours to studying and learning the word as the Bible teaches. Your eyes just haven't been opened yet but keep spending time in the Word. Love it.
@scottstollery21914 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you admit that we're "learning the word as the bible teaches," i.e., that it's factually incorrect, that it contradicts itself constantly, that it condones slavery, that it punishes way more heavily than the crime demands, that it's racist and sexist, that the fictitious god in its pages is a jealous, genocidal maniac, and that its message will condemn billions of souls to an eternity of suffering. If that is what it means to have your eyes open, I think I would pluck mine out.

@@scottstollery2191 I'm not trying to debate with you sir. It's fruitless but I'll let the Word do it's work. See it's you that has this innate need to disprove Christianity. Why? I don't tend to focus my time or energy on things that I believe are fallacies. See the truth is in my opinion is that you're fighting your natural spiritual need for God. You want control. The good thing is God doesn't force you give yourself over to him. He let's you make the choice. You say that God doesn't exist but you gave him qualities of an entity that does exist. How can one be in your words "jealous, genocidal manic that condemns billions of souls to an eternity of suffering" if he doesn't exist. Also those are very strong emotional words for something that's non existent. Like I said you're the one devoting your time and effort to the Bible. Keep seeking truth my friend Jesus' saving grace will be revealed to you in due time.

@@Truthtella You're sadly not living up to your name. Right off the bat, I'm not sure that you even know what the word innate means. Innate need to disprove christianity? That makes no sense. Are you saying that I was born with this need? That it's always been with me? Or were you saying I came to these conclusions with my intellect only? Everything I say and believe has come from years of experience, education, my intellect, emotions and my intuition. No, I was simply telling you, here and now, that your theology rings false and it disproves itself again and again. You have no proof for anything you say. You believe it, sure, but just because something is rattling around in your brain doesn't make it true. "I don't tend to focus my time or energy on things that I believe are fallacies." But yet here you are watching the video, making comments, and then trying to debate with me, in fact judge me, even though it's "fruitless." You christians just can't help yourselves. I'm sorry that these videos threaten you and that you need to try and make yourself feel better by towing the company line. I'm sorry that you know that the fictional character in the bible is a fairly despicable character that you have been conned into loving due to the threat of hell. I'm sorry that you are so afraid of death that you have to create fairy tale after fairy tale to get by. I'm sorry that you couldn't find an answer for suffering so you had to believe in a god that has a plan, even if it is a cruel one to billions of unbelievers. Even if you are correct that people have a spiritual need, there are many paths to that end with no need for a god. Have you ever studied Buddhism or Taoism? But, no, there is only one way for you, only one way to think, only one way to believe. Because it's you who wants to control...

i have not touched a bible in like, four years. I just picked one up today to see if the dialogue actually contains multiple speakers in one paragraph...and it does...IT DOES! how have I never noticed! it goes against common writing convention AND I HATE IT! and it might have been a previous episode but like, there are author's notes within the narrative. Literally formatted like bad fanfiction! or was bad fanfiction modeled after the bible's formatting?

Just FYI, the egg and dairy industries are the meat industry(worse even). so, if you're boycotting meat for ethical reasons, you should also boycott eggs and dairy.
