Having watched this cartoon with my niece and nephew often enough, I came to the conclusion that Ryder must be some spoiled rich kid whose parents had puppies genetically altered to speak and act like this, so their neglected son could play the hero with them. His parents are never seen after all. Also, it seems like the dog with the helicopter could solve most of the problems they run into on her own.

The puppies were found in the wild and replaced when they die. Proof is the episode with Rubble's backstory. When Ryder rescues him and brings him to the lookout tower the bulldozer is already there and numbered. The implication being that a previous Rubble existed but died and is now being replaced.

There were several animation mistakes made, such as one of the missing dog posters in Carmen's shop having a cat on it, Liberty catching up to the pups almost immediately despite being a whole minute behind them, etc. But the biggest mistake, not from an animation perspective, but from a logical perspective is how Chase managed to make it across that gap. It would have made a lot more sense for him to jump that gap with his bike.

My counter argument to this is that Chase's grappling hook could reach, it's just that the insanely high winds blew it away. Plus, considering that the pup packs needed to be lightweight, the hook itself is likely to be high strength but lightweight alloy. And yeah, it does have Fast & Furious vibes. In fact, by now, Paw Patrol is probably more realistic than the Fast and Furious films.

The extent of my knowledge of this series was substitute teaching in a middle school, the teacher had me show that to the class as she was beyond caring (it was the last day of school if I remember right) and it's what the kids wanted. The kids were super into it. I was pretty surprised - how could middle school kids be enjoying this? It looked more suited for lower-elementary. And even for them had surprisingly little redeeming about it. I've seen some for-little-kids cartoons that were actually entertainingly witty, and this wasn't one of them.
