Hades was also the underworld, the realm of the dead. So, greek "hades" was used as the translation of hebrew "sheol". I contend that "hell" is the appropriate english translation for both. (Edit: but bibles tend to use "hell" to incorrectly translate "gehenna" instead.) Regarding pantheons, parts of the old testament are henotheistic / monolatrist, and there are references to a divine council of gods in places like psalm 82. The god of the bible is a conflation of the israelite (possibly borrowed from midianite) storm god yahweh with the canaanite father god el. The canaanite storm god baal was considered yahweh's rival. But yahweh defeated the sea serpent leviathan, just like his fellow storm gods defeated various sea monsters, usually sea serpents. Edit: there are people who say that yahweh was originally a metallurgy god and/or a volcano god. Perhaps. Others call him a war god. But in the bible, he is clearly a storm god. Yes he fights wars, but using storm elements: lightning, hail, floods, wind.

@@qbasicmichael Yahweh was a lesser god and he was god of a particular canaanite tribe who went on a subjugation spree(also the entire Moses story which is fictional) converting other canaanite tribes including tribes who worshiped yahweh's wife. This canaanite tribe would be the first ancient israelite or ancient jews who were the first to massacre someone for their beliefs. This is adopted by christianity and islam. The problem and greatest crime on earth is Judaism which is based on fiction of Moses was made real by christianity and islam.

John of Patmos wrote Revelation as an allegory for the fledgling Jesus movement surviving its early trials and exhorting followers to keep on struggling, because he felt things would eventually turn out for the best. It was never intended as any kind of prophecy about the future of humanity. Interpretations that invent some kind of "rapture" or "tribulation" are garbage.

As for the horses and difference between a white horse and a pale horse, I believe a pale horse would apply to more than just it's fur, having a pink snout and eyes. A white horse could refer to just its fur, but also could be its entire coloration being white, hoofs ears, tail to snout.

By my understanding, by "pale" the writer is referring to the ghastly pale colour of a corpse. The pale horse is a zombie horse. Now that makes sense, because its rider is Death. I mean, why would Death be rider a living horse? That would be silly. I am serious about that horse being a zombie. Apparently, the original Greek used a word that describes the ghastly pale colour of a corpse. It's a detail that has been lost in translation. Too bad. Death would look pretty rad riding upon a zombie horse followed by the legions of Hades. Oh yeah, in some interpretations Death is leading the denizens Hades, it's not just the Greek god. So, that's Death riding a zombie horse and leading an army of the dead. Why isn't this a heavy metal album cover? Oh, and the first horseman isn't Pestilence, that's a misunderstanding caused by Middle Age scholars pushing names onto the first three horsemen who are not actually named. I would argue that a better name for the first horseman would be Conquest, Social Upheaval, Maga or Trump.

Atheist here, former 20 years evangelical christian. Hemant, I love your videos. Totally loved the first 5 books videos also. Now, let me say a word to "sligthly" defend christians. Yes, some of them are quite fine with every non-christians going through the tribulations and then to hell. Others, I would dare say the majority, are not "fine" with it, in fact it saddens them but they do see it as being "just". After all, you didn't accept Jesus as your lord and savior so why would he take you with him? If you don't like him, wouldn't it be some kind of "torture" on his part to take you along for eternity? Think of it this way; if you don't buy a lottery ticket, you don't deserve to win. I know, comparing lottery and tribulations isn't the best exemple but you get the general idea. Having spent a big chunk of my life as a catholic, having gone to catholic primary and secondary schools (UK), and having been involved with the church for many years before leaving and becoming firmly atheist, I was always taught that this book was not to be taken at all literally. I was taught it was highly allegorical and it was addressed specifically to those 7 early churches. How anyone can think it is even vaguely 'real' beats me completely. As you say, all the stuff about the sun and stars are so blatantly wrong that it makes it clear it is entirely made up. If the maker of the universe had dictated/inspired it, you'd think it would know that the stars are not little lamps hanging int he sky...

Is it wrong to confess that as the Bible goes, I'm definitely among those who enjoy watching the tribbing? Also, wait. The Bible acknowledges Hades? But I thought Jesus and his pops was the only true God? Where did Hades suddenly come from? Even if we interpret Hades simply to mean the realm of the dead, it is still a realm named after the god who presides over it... Is Jesus a blasphemer?

If the Bible was truly prophetic, then the first four seals wouldn't unleash horsemen, but motorbike riders (as in 'Good Omens'). Of course, back then they didn't know about motorbikes or jet planes, but you would think that an omniscient god would know (as well as also having a chapter in his book about germ theory).😀

Wait! What?! Hades (5:37) again? I thought there is no god besides Jehovah/Jahweh/Allah. Now we learn, from the Bible no less, that the Greek god of the Underworld is there too. Who else are you hiding? 🤔

While the Christians are (supposedly) monotheistic, the Israelites were actually henotheistic: more than one god exists, but it is only correct to worship one of them. I believe the Pentateuch references Baal and Astarte specifically.
