I grow up with this mindset, and I Left the religious buble in my 50's with no education. I feel miserable for waste my life believing in the bible, the fictional god, and all religious institutions I thought were telling the "truth". The most painful part is that I can't complain about it because they said it was my choice to follow those mindset 😢 How how how if even the justice system gives them rights and privileges to scam people?

Religious freedom ensure the protection of nonsense like Mormonism, Evangelical Christian fundamentalist preaching and islam. Christian perpetuates cults at a far larger scale though because of the lure of money for the politically connected ministry while general people are attracted due to the social gatherings giving a sense of belonging and not their belief in Jesus.

And these are gold, I've gotta say, but this one... if I recall the rest of Proverbs 31, I need to skip this one. I thought I was being a good (not necessarily by biblical standards, but...) wife to my soulmate, for 38½ years. Then the day came, out of the blue, when he came home from helping his sister yet again, but just to throw his shyt into bags and tell me it's over. No warning, no chance at a second chance, no chance at couples therapy, just... "Imma toss the last 40 years we've been a thing in this dumpster here and set it on fire. Bye." Then he signed papers for divorce the DAY AFTER our 39TH ANNIVERSARY. How effing cold can you be‽‽ That was 3 years 4 months (and 20 days, but who's counting?) ago, and it still takes my breath away, and feels like my heart is being squeezed out through my ribcage wanting to go to him - though he'd just stomp on it. It's like he's no longer the man I love, no longer the guy I woke up to every morning, and snuggled up to every night. I don't know who he is anymore. Aaaaaaanyway, I'm leaving the comment and the like, but can't give you the watchtime.

So glad to see you're back Heman, I missed those studies. I'd like to point out one aspect though. Proverbs 31:8-9 is in fact used by evangelicals to justify their anti-abortion stance. They claim they are speaking for the ones who can't speak for themselves (the unborn). I guess one can always take some part of the bible and turn it into an argument for whatever he sees fit.

Scarlett is a hard to obtain (natural) dye, therefore the person wearing it is rich. Purple is even harder to obtain. The person wearing it is royal.

But it does depend upon what the purple is derived from. The purple from Tyrrhenian mollusks was wildly expensive. There are purple plant dyes - but some societies had sumptuary laws that forbad some people from wearing some colours.

This is more of a higher end portion of society. Written by a mother of a King. Since in those days there was dredful fear of assanations and sociatal intrigue, it only makes sense that this is a recipie of a woman who is too busy to engage in such things. Even in the higher end of society in Roman Times such women were there as part of the "family buisness". Many times when it says "she (does something)" it actuially means "she orders her servants to....". It is a truism that we know more about the upper class in the past than we do of the lower class. After all, we only know of king Arthur's knights they were always on quests and fighting Except concerning a seige of a city, we know nothing from those stories of the average or lower classes. Safe to say....yet again Christian theologists chose prov 32 without seeing its context. Imagine if there were folks following "La Morte D'Arthur" as a religion, waking up every day to ride out and engage in combat with any other man out to do the same. Short lived religion.

There’s another way to read this chapter. Consider the book to be a poem that compares two women, wisdom and folly. This chapter might not specifically be addressing only women.

Proverbs are one of the absolute worst books in the Bible, full of prejudicies from many bearded cross-dressed misogynists and idiots of an earlier era. When I was Christian I heard that so-and-so book in the Bible was good reading, fascinating and well written. I think that most of the Bible is really really low quality, when I heard about the Psalms, it was supposed to be "good poetry", when I read it I was disgusted by how crappy it was written by an apparently bipolar guy that was in deep need of a shrink.

Honestly, this is the worst entry into the series. In most entries of the series, you read the Bible and make comments (usually sarcastic). In this episode you read the Bible, tell us the nonsensical Evangelical interpretation, and you comment on the Evangelical interpretation. The actual text is great! Proverbs 31 description of a woman is actually great. It describes a wife of a wealthy man who manages the household and who owns her own business. She hires a nanny or au pair to clean the house and take care of the kids. I wish you had commented on the actual text, like you did in the earlier installments of the series.
