The arcade sonic games, especially sega sonic the hedgehog, were such a big change of pace for me. The games are so obscure but are just as important in terms of the classic timeline

The only games to not fit in the Classic Sonic Timeline would be Waka Waka Sonic Patrol Car, Sonic Cosmic Fighter, and SEGASONIC Popcorn Shop, as they don’t have a strong narrative that fits with the overarching franchise… and I’m not saying that because people thought Sonic shouldn’t be driving a car, but there’s not much to write about with those games. SEGASONIC Arcade and Sonic the Fighters do have narratives that fit the SEGASONIC branding, particularly with Eggman having Wile E. Coyote style intellect and karma, and Sonic being Mobius’ Felix Gonzales.

And maybe the actual tournament was a bracket with one Emerald per round, and Eggman tries to rob you of them with a clone that he makes God knows how-maybe by sucking energy from the Emeralds as you have them? Also among the Classic games, I put SegaSonic first canonically, then CD, then base Genesis trilogy about three-and-a-half years after to make Amy's age work, then 3D Blast, Chaotix, The Fighters and finally R. Spinball could work after Adventure if the "Chaos Emeralds" there were really the 16 Master Emerald fragments. 8-bit would be its own 6-Emerald thing.

While Knack was meant to be his original name they had to swap to Fang, chosen in a competition they held through a magazine, because it sounded to close to the Jp pronunciation of Knuckles. So, technically speaking Fang is the original name while Knack is also the original name... Going with either as his real name would work, though seemingly they're going with Fang for the new game even in english.

The unlock conditions for Super Sonic in Fighters sound ridiculous on paper, but there is a way to make it easier: The game says to win every fight without losing a round, right? Well, if you lose a round at any point, just throw the next one, use a continue, and your loss record will be erased! Keep doing this until you reach Round 1 with Metal Sonic, and if you lose that round, repeat until you win! I think Sonic Gems Collection has this hint, but it might just be something you learn online.

I want to mention that SegaSonic The Hedgehhog WAS going to be localized outside of Japan like USA, evidence being of Eggman (actually called Robotnik in this case) having different sprites in form of his DiC animated shows appearance like Adventures of, SATAM, & Underground + English dialouge of Robotnik talking in the game. Reasons to why it never went through are unknown, but you could find these sprites in the Cutting Room Floor and can actually place them in the [TOTALLY LEGAL SEGASONIC ARCADE MACHINE]

SegaSonic is probably the first game canonically in the timeline since it shows Sonic's childhood friends who don't appear anymore (except in the other timeline continuity where they were captured again) and because Sonic just wasn't as fast as he is in other games. The way I see it, him and his friends being kidnapped is the catalyst that makes Sonic hunt down Eggman, ruin his plans, and become a hero.

A local arcade in dallas texas actually has an original segasonic the hedgehog arcade cabinet i got to play and I can confirm that the countdown sequence with eggman REQUIRES you to go at full speed (a.k.a. increasing your muscle mass from spinning a trackball) the entire time and if you dont remember the layout and hit a wall or fall off you just lose, its intended to be a quarter muncher like most early arcade games. it sucked but i managed to do it and looked like a fool in public doing it lol

A) That's contrary to most, if not all, arcade cabinets (hell, Killer Instinct literally had it's announcer get _louder_ the longer than the player could hold a combo, and it is _obscene_ what volume you can get to). B) I feel like that still doesn't make sense. It's the job of the person to set the volume of the cabinets, so if they did have something that needed less noise nearby, they'd just turn it down. Especially when the rest of the game _still_ has audio. Edit: C) Even if that, for some ungodly reason, were the case, why wouldn't they fix it for the (Totally Legal SegaSonic Arcade Machine)? You have a chance to improve the game for the new conditions.

The reason there is no music is that you have the arcade attract mode turned off. Arcade games had it attract mode feature where you could configure them so that they wouldn't make noise unless somebody was playing the game if you had the arcade in someplace like a convenience store where the constant noise would be irritating

A slight correction: The first person to voice Sonic in English in the games is Utoku Keiko, who provided a short voice clip of Sonic saying "I'm outta here!" for an Easter egg in Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

That's a common misconception. Utoku only worked on the music for Sonic CD. Masato Nishimura was a Sonic Team designer at the time, and he was the person who provided Sonic's voice in that game. He was also the one behind the "Fun is Infinite" screen. Funnily enough, I discovered that while making this video. It turns out that, according to himself, he doesn't actually say "I'm outta here!", but instead "I'm OUTER here!". Sonic Fighters had the worst downloadable demo when released on console. They let you download the whole game (I think) but only give you like 60 seconds. But there are 54 seconds of intro animations giving you just 6 seconds of actual gameplay before it resets. And Sonic Fighters is what I remember as a really great game. Lots of characters, and I could easily beat it as a kid. THe intro animation explains the dirt simple story well.

14:18 So, the reason Sonic and his friends go to Wild Water Way after Landslide Limbo instead of straight towards Eggman's Tower was because, actually, they DID head to Eggman's Tower, as we can see in the beginning of Wild Water Ways that the trio cross the bridge leading to an upwards entrance to the tower. But Eggman immediately closes its gate right as they're about to enter it, and due to the collapsing bridge behind them, they fall into Wild Water Way.

I've heard of all of these, but Sonic the Fighters is the only one I've played. I had it in Sonic Gems Collection for the Gamecube. Some of the characters' stronger moves are virtually impossible to use with the Gamecube controls, I can say that for a fact.

The reason why the island map in Sega Sonic is weird is because the order of stages was going to be different. In a beta version of the game(which is playable with the rom of the beta) the order is: 1.Volcanic Vault 2.Trap Tower 3.Landslide Limbo 4.Icy Isle 5.Desert Dodge Wild Water Way and Eggman's Tower are not playable in the beta and after beating Desert Dodge,you just get a screen that says "Coming soon"
