Those comics were bad-ass! The first movie was dark but up to a certain point, it was pretty tame in comparison to the black and white comics from the 1980s and took it's influences from those aforementioned black and white comics and the 1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, which at the time was still on the air. But the first film is still my favorite TMNT movie and I regard it as a cult-classic.

they don't. The CGI ones look far better and more unique and more realistic (nostrils and the need to wear pants to hide their bits makes sense for human/turtle hybrids). Never liked these old films despite being a big fan of the toon and toys at the time. The animatronics were neat at the time but the mouth movements look awful now and the suits are just too clunky and fight scenes look terrible and their personalities all sort of blend in together. Out of the Shadows is a great live action version of the original toon and has great action scenes.
