Rob, being at 7-stock must be a highlight of your year if not the best time of the year. I can empathize with that, I think. Being with like minded individuals passionately talking about something you love so much WITHOUT egos is such a special thing. I'm a wine person and unfortunately those type of people generally have a negative connotation attached to them because they're regularly pretentious and sometimes pompous... For the record l am not, but unfortunately I cannot talk to people about it because of the aforementioned connotation. When I'm with people (rarely) where I can talk with people about something I love (wine) with zero ego I'm the happiest. It's such a lovely feeling, and I'm happy you get to experience moments like that at 7-stock AND Sema.

Cars have been a hobby of mine since I was 14, when I was 26 I was at a cross roads and decided to do it as a career and to be honest it killed my passion for many years. I recently left the trade professionally as a Nissan Master technician, red seal journeyman with Cummins certification for Nissan. It took me a while to really want to touch my car for fun anymore but I found you on KZbin and put you on the 50" in the garage and lack of experience or what have you never stopped your passion and you have truely helped me remember why I loved and now love cars again so much. Ah, I was wondering how long it would take to sleep off that intense work rate required to get the car to SEMA. Don't worry about the comments, we're all trying to help, even when we criticise ;-) Remember, even in F1 they make mistakes and even when they don't, they are continually refining the car - and their top teams have budgets that have been around a HALF BILLION dollars, with over 500 employees, and you are basically working from a large shed with a few helpers, learning as you go along, on a VERY tight budget. You're doing something you love, something most of the rest of us wish we could. 2:35 - wait - you had Roman helping? With the front coil-overs, you may be better off, for unsprung weight, mounting them the other way round - remember with a cantilevered suspension the unsprung is to the top and sprung to the bottom, and you want to minimise the unsprung. 9:30ish, yup, the chassis is quite differently loaded, and subject to much higher corner loads - I was rather concerned about the stiffness in torsion (twist), as it makes the suspension tuning rather difficult and can cause handling issues. Triangulation is your friend. 11:25, think I may have mentioned that before, one BIG problem - and I have seen a LOT of people much more experienced than you do the exact same thing - is that the fan shroud is much to close to the radiator matrix to efficiently draw through it closer to the edges of the matrix, it will be great in the middle, though. You can use a couple of suitable sized fans which ewill help, but the greater the clearance, the better the overall cooling will be. Depending on the specific fans used, when the vehicle is up to 10-15 mph the vehicle will be providing around the same air speed and much above it the fans can even be a restriction. You can improve things by making one way valves for the airflow by opening up the shroud and pop-rivetting thin rubber over the openings - just along the top edge, as otherwise they won't work. You can see what I mean on many production vehicles and they will reduce the negative affect of the shroud being too close to the radiator. 13:30 - not a problem - not only is it easily strong enough (just make sure it is bolted tightly) but the suspension and braking loads through the top wishbone are actually rather low... the bottom arms, however, take a LOT of suspension and brake loads and you need to check the load specifications for the joints ised - it it is tight, you should still be OK as that (apparent) size joint is a lot stronger than many may realise - but different manufacturers use different design and materials, so, again, check. Remember, offraos and statium race trucks use similar setups and they REALLY pound their suspensions.

Rob, you mentioned the radiator fan might have some issues. I think what you have is sufficient however, it would be beneficial if you install "trap Doors" minimum of two on each side. The concept is as you drive the air pressure in front of the radiator will push open the doors which allow unrestricted air flow. As the vehicle comes to a stop the doors naturally close and positively seal while the fan draws a negative pressure through your fan opening. The doors are typically made out of rubber but could be 3D printed with a flexible resin if you want a custom shape with some rotary artwork on it (maybe even shape them like rotaries for fun). The 3D printing filament is typically called "TPE or TPU". If you want some inspiration about the doors google "radiator shroud doors". One caveat, the fan shroud must be sealed to the radiator pretty good to allow the fan to do its job when the vehicle stationary. Keep up the good work. It is refreshing to watch you go through the discovery process of troubleshooting issues that come up with a complicated build. I go though this process every day as Engineering Manager developing automation solutions and robot work cells. People claim doing new things is easy, It's not. People also love to criticize without any ideas on solutions, don't listen to them. Keep an open mind and challenge the status quo. Sometimes lacking experience can lead to new ideas that a closed mind would think of. For inspiration I keep this quote hanging up in my office. "A closed mind stumbles over the blessings of life without recognizing them."

Rob where the piping is so close, how about a small half moon relief built in to the area. It wouldn't actually reduce flow. Look into Bernoulli effect. You may be pleasantly surprised. And it will give extra clearance even though you are adding taller spring's. The steering solution is even simpler. They now make a fantastic electric power steering box that sets inside the car. It's amazing and so easy to set up. I've seen the car later on in videos and it's amazing. Seeing the improvements and the 1000 mark reached was a blast. Thanks for sharing the ride.R&M

Well, the first hoonicorn's chassis is actually not the best design. Which is the core of the problem, many parts were obviously designed, not engineered. Designed to look cool in b-roll and to be easily replaceable. Those a-arms and rockers are hillarious. I mean, an 18 inch aluminum part in bending? You could make a bell crank out of steel that is lighter, stronger and more durable for a fraction of the cost. And seeing the lack of structural rigidity in the front frame I'm certain hat bolt-in crossmenber is gonna buckle the first time he hits a corner. Don't get me wrong, not trying to hate. I love this build and admire the amount of work and passion that go into this project, but it really should've started with a proven racecar chassis, not an eyeballed garage-copy of a badly engineered stunt-car. The Hoonicorn, despite all compromises made for the stylish quick-change suspension, is a far more rigid construction than the RX7, and even that car visibly twists in corners. Considering all the CAD work Rob has already done, I think he should step back for a moment, do some basic FEM-analysis on the chassis and make sure it's worth the expensive parts he keeps bolting to it. Asking somebody to go over the suspension geometry would be a good idea aswell. The geometry he copied is based on the Hoonicorns wheelbase, trackwidth and weight distribution and could be worlds away from what this car actually needs to drive properly. Static instance centers are only part of the picture but they're the minimun of what you should actually calculate on a scratch-build performance chassis. I just hope this doesn't end bably.

1) Check out flexible shafts for the steering shafts. I believe the bad obsession motorsports mini Cooper build videos have a solution for your steering rack arm. You could use a flexible shaft which an aerospace company in the UK makes flexible shafts and flexible drive shafts which should be able to handle your torque loads and provide some new mounting possibilities for opening up easier mounting solutions for tight spaces. I think the company is called “S.S. White Technologies UK Ltd” for flexible shafts and flexible drive shafts. 2) I know it kinda sucks but check out the some electronic steering systems like the newer corvettes use. I know you’d probably prefer the true analog feel though.
