You have to admit that when this movie first came out, it was pretty bad ass. It was right before 9/11, so everyone in the US (or at least myself) was riding high on the feel good era of the 90's. late 90's-early 00's America was pretty kick ass. This was also around the time GTA 3 came out, and everyone was stoked over the PS2. The first LOTR came out, and everyone was excited about that. The Harry Potter Saga just started, which most kids were in love with. I remember watching this with my older cousins, and how after everyone who had a souped-up car was ripping it out of the parking lot, and racing with each other. It was pretty bad ass.

It's a safe bet it was Brian discouraging Jesse from racing in the first place and could have said any number but _someone_ was overconfident with his 2.0L 4-banger. CAI and a catback + a rumored 150-shot nitrous buuut in reality that spray would've caused his engine to detonate. Even if he had won that race against Tran he wouldn't 'be rollin' with his father. >.

DareToBeDeviant Not 100% true about the nitrous. That 2.0 ABA has forged pistons from the factory (1993-1995 had forged, 1996-1999 cast), the pistons even have their own oil squirters. It probably could take the nitrous, since people boost ABA"s all the time. I have ran 20 PSI on a bone stock 1995 spec 2.0. BUT for some reason, the movie used automatics, so then the 4 speed auto would blow up.

All I do know is without a perfect engine refitted with high quality parts made for extreme conditions, running so much spray is asking for trouble. I admit, not a pro with forced induction. Only worked on 3 supercharged cars in 8 years. Everyone where I live are all about going slow and gentle so fun is lacking. >.

DareToBeDeviant No worries! The 2.0 8v code ABA is actually a really stout motor, great for forced induction. A hair under 10:1 compression, forged pistons, oil squirters, dual valve springs, all from the factory from 1993-1995. That's what I have in my MK2 VW, and I am running over 20 PSI day to day with it. I have a 2 stage boost control, dd is only 1 bar, when I want to go fast I set it to 1.5 bar which is about 22PSI. Puts down over 250whp, and gets 28mpg. They're very stout motors, but the one in the F&F should have been a VR6.. it would have been much more realistic. No one mods a 2.0 expecting a lot of power because you won't get any. The 2.0 in the movie car just had a 260* cam, a camgear, intake, exhaust, and the direct port nitrous. That's like 130bhp (stock is 115hp and 122tq), about 280+ with the nitrous, but the trans never would have handled it. The MK3 platform VW automatics are HORRIBLE.

Now any newbie whose seen them all will think 100% of all that baloney is completely true, most notoriously the infamous "NOS!" *boom* scene. GT Touring, Le Mans, Formula 1, WRC - all have competing vehicles that use 8 Speed Gearboxes Some new Audis, Maseratis and Range Rovers use them too. They may be rare in the US but they're pretty prevalent across Europe. I did say that it was unlikely the Eclipse had one but my point was that it's not impossible that it did. Illegal street racing is pretty big business _(moreso in the movie)_ so if you have the right connections _(especially black market connections)_ you can get practically anything. If they can afford all the crappy sound systems, hydraulic suspension, roll cages and NOS they can afford to fork out for a better gearbox.

it could be as simple as a blown oil seal or fitting spitting a small amount of oil onto the hot headers. Definitely nothing wrong with the car. I remember working at a gas station once and some lady wants me to top up oil in her engine. A split a drop on the headers and it started smoking, then she started getting all upset and complaining to the boss thinking I had broken her car XD

You forgot "not double clutching when you should". Double clutching is only required when there are no syncros in the transmission a la, a semi truck. It is very slow and would not be helpful in a race.

you forgot the following sins 1. Nitrous oxide is not even flammable so no flames shooting out the exhaust if it did happen it would melt there exhaust NOS its used to cool down the block so it can run at higher RPMs for longer 2. The 20 gear transmission because they were shifting way to much for a straight away which the only vehicles that use that many gears are old semi trucks from the mid 90s and before 3. When Brian lost his floor panel in the first race it was magicly back when the race was over 4. dude do you even know what MAP means it means "manifold absolute pressure" it is only one of the many sensors of the for fuel systems its a input the PCM but it doesn't control the air fuel ratio the O2 sensor does and if he did shoot flames out of the tail pipe for that long it would have fried them because most Asian imports they have to O2 sensor right outside the exhaust ports and the car would run like shit he would also burn the exhaust valves melt the exhaust system do you even know what kind of fuel ratio it would take to blow flames out your tail pipe you would be dumping around a gallon in every compression stroke and the flames coming out were to steady which means the that the mixture was still ignited during the intake stroke which would make a intake back fire and light his air filter on fire at the same time frying the map iac, iat, and maf

Two things I learned from watching another video: 1) In the opening truck heist the trailer is lifted several inches up to accommodate for the height of the civic that passes under it, which is clearly visible to the left of the screen. He does point out that it magically has clearance for it, but I figured I’d point out the thing that is clearly in the shot for the sole purpose of raising the height for that scene. 2) When Paul’s in his Ford Lightning hauling the parts for the Supra, there’s a random Miata bumper.

As a personal theory I believe this movie could've been even greater, (besides all of the movies counted and uncounted) if they changed the plot a little after Dom gave Brian the card before going to street wars and actually joining his crew or something. He has a KZbin channel where he talks about this movie's production. He also talks about the infamous "Danger to manifold" warning. Definitely worth checking.

Maybe the chasis twisted because of the torque :p. But why was the floor pan bolted on is beyond me. Also i think the computer said danger to the intake manifild, which wasn't demaged in the end. The thing that started smoking is most likely overheated coolant, or clutch. (Most likely coolant). Therefore the car could keep running after it "blew up". Also the big sin was the exploading nos. NOS does not expload. Even if the bottle is under heavy pressure it has a safety valve.

jura2304 i agree with the intake part and the N2O not exploding however, n2O pooly rigged can cause a gaint fireball. seen it happen first hand. and since in the movie he was racing and because of the scamble never left chances are his bottle would still be open therefore the pressure being an issues wouldnt explode. the n2o in the lines couldve ruptured and caught fire. which again is extremely unlikely however still possible

Can't forget about the screen that shows Brian whats wrong with the car, "Manifold malfunction" or whatever. The manifold is a piece of steel that directs air into the cylinder heads. No car on earth even now has a sensor for it... nor any aftermarket for it because its useless. At least the Charger has its exhaust, fuel tank, and such when it flips... unlike some of the cars in the later movies.
