This movie was peak Michael Bay. Action scenes are plentiful and clearly shot, cinematography is gorgeous, and each beat of the plot is laid out simply to move the audience from one action scene to the next.

That sucks you didn't have the original version of The Rock. Before it was edited out, the good guys were detected entering the prison and the line that has forever stuck with me was said by a bad guy, "We have penetration in the shower room." 12:58 Actually, because of the unpredictability of the mixture of TNT, RDX, gunpowder, and other explosives commonly used in hand grenades, the military trains you to never, ever "cook" your grenade. The system aims for detonation to occur 4 seconds after release. This gives the soldier time to hurl it in a direction. However, there have been cases of grenades having a shorter fuse due to things like a manufacturing error, environmental conditions, and how the chemical compounds come to rest in the casing. Not to mention, in a combat situation, a person's perception of time may be affected. Thus, cooking your grenade is not a good idea, neither is picking up one and throwing it back.
@soarabove3375 жыл бұрын
Very true regarding cooking, which is a Hollywood thing anyway. You wanna cook 1-3 seconds to the lowest bidder? Yeah no thanks. So just don't do it. It always bothered me how much time that nade had before it fired... but hey, I've seen worse. And had that nade met the standard, then kinda movie over. So, incredible as it may be, I'm glad Dr. Goodspeed was able to left-arm fire it back. Accurately. Lol 🤔😱😀👍
@soarabove3375 жыл бұрын
Oh and one other thing: near the end, Captain Frye (or Darrow; I always get their names confused - these blokes are inseparable lmao) did a proper job of cooking; it just seemed like "at this time, is it really worth it? Yes." was okay. However, I don't see how there wasn't a sin on the amazing curve ball wrist-roll algorithm he gave it to roll right into the room, however. Lmao, that's a sin that won't count.....except against cs for not using it.

12:59 FYI, military training does have the soldiers throw a grenade immediately after the pin is pulled and latch is released. You know the number of people who actually gotten the medal of honor since Vietnam can probably be counted by both hands. They made it insanely hard to get that medal, and they're almost always awarded posthumously. Basically you'd have to do something that's so dangerous and so full of valor that most the time, you won't make it. Over means you are done with that portion of the message and you are still continuing communication. Out means that you are done talking and that is the end of transmission. Usually between the two speaking over radios, the highest ranking will be the person to determine when communications are cut.
@chaff510 ай бұрын
@@bloodyrose2076 It's not the highest ranking that ends the call. The caller ends the call because they called to tell you something and they tell you when they're done telling you what it is they called to tell you. Imagine if a captain calls a general to tell him he's in grave danger but the general ends the call before the captain can finish telling him what kind of danger he's in, where it's coming from, when he should expect it, etc.
@bloodyrose207610 ай бұрын
@@chaff5 Typically it’s the higher rank initiating to talk down, with exceptions. But the person lower is only providing information. The person higher is making a the decisions. So it doesn’t make sense for the person providing info to just end transmissions with no guidance, warning or not. Typically near the end of the transmission, the higher will ask if they have any more info. If they say no, they’ll either add info or just RGR, out. I can see a higher potentially listening with mild feedback and the initiator responding with ‘out’ once they confirm there is no further guidance. But I’ve rarely if never seen a CPT ‘out’ higher. And most of the time the CPTs are the initiator because they are sending up reports to the Commander to inform them of an issue on ground (usually real world). And to be fair I’ve rarely ever used ‘out’ because of constant transmissions that it becomes superfluous to use it. Also all of the info the CPT has to say would come through one transmissions in small sections and then be proceeded by an over. The general would only respond once the transmission is complete. Once they hear over they would give guidance. If they hear ‘break’ they will not just ‘out’ a transmission. But usually no General would be listening in the radio. It’s an RTO who’s copying transmission down to inform the commander. Unless he happens to be in the AO and the squawk box is super loud and he’s over hearing the transmission.
@chaff510 ай бұрын
@@bloodyrose2076 "Typically" doesn't matter. The rules of radio etiquette dictate that the caller decides when the call is over, regardless of rank. I'm sure typing all of that felt good but I was in the military and ran comms on deployments; I know how the radio works.

Vx isn't a gas, it's a non-polar liquid, doesn't dissolve in water. Most delivery mechanisms either spray it out or uses a weak low temperature explosion to spread it out. It's very reactive and will become inert in sunlight after a few weeks. But can maintain toxicity for years if it isn't exposed to either extreme heat or direct sunlight. areas exposed to vx are considered uninhabitable because touching less than a drop will kill you. Vx is also created by mixing two chemicals together at a specific temperature and pressure, and is kept in that way both to minimize risks upon leakage, and to maintain potency. Napalm will almost certainly break it down, but it requires very little to be lethal.
@Damocles548 жыл бұрын
The second method you mention was common for artillery shells. 2 chambers in the round each with a precursor chemical that would combine and become aerosolized in the air over a target at a specific point in the trajectory. The real problem with trying to use napalm is that it would initially just increase the rate the liquid off gasses, which is a problem if its upwind of you. But everything from a field decon station (contaminated protective gear etc) is typically thrown into a hole and the area napalmed immediately. which from an environmental standpoint is appalling but 'field expediency' sometimes is necessary.

Most bullet-proof vests, being *bullet-proof*, are not made to stop knives. There are multipurpose (or "multi-threat") vests, but they're heavier and not always used (plus I HIGHLY doubt they were the ones being used in this movie) and 2) be careful with your use of the term "high velocity" as many high velocity bullets *can* get through bullet proof vests *because* they're high velocity, whereas heavier, slower bullets can be stopped easily

The movie explains through Womack's character that he (John Mason) "broke out two maximum security prisons". Later, his daughter says that "US Marshals kicked down the hotel door". Marshals handle warrants on the federal prisons side, implying he was an escaped convict when he went to the Led Zeplin concert with his babimama.

Sean Connery is basically playing old James Bond here without Calling him James Bond because it's not an Ian Fleming story & Copyright issues so his name is John Mason but he's kicking everybody's ass, including saving Nic Cage's ass and doing what The Navy Seals cannot accomplish because he was trained by tbe best "British Intelligence" in ither words he's 007 without saying it, but all the signs are literally in your face throughout the movie...

Biggest problem of this movie always was Ed Harris "villain"-character - as soon as you realize he is an honorable guy the whole movie becomes predictable (of course there are renegades oposing the general) and the threat almost non-existant. Should have gone the old Bond-Villain-route, a cliche, but at least it gives you something to hate. Cast Tommy Lee Jones in it, wearing a jeans jacket, and you are set ^^

Then after Hummell crashes the rocket into the ocean he says to Frye that "We bluffed, they called it" then Frye says "Who said anything about bluffing?" Umm, Tony Todd did a few minutes ago. Also why do Frye and Tony Todd have such a hard on to kill 80,000 innocent civilians? Frye especially was clearly problematic from the start. He's there is front of the General, arms folded, looking all pissy. Where did he find these guys? You telling me he didn't have another couple of guys he could bring on that he actually worked with because this movie doesn't happen without their raging hard on to kill anyone and everyone.

Depends on the set up and the gear. Yeah, Kevlar can resist impacts, but a sharp object? That's not so much as impact as it is puncture. Sure, it's risky to use that needle through Kevlar, it's a think material after all, but it wouldn't stop it due to "impact Resistance".

That is why they are used as pesticides instead of say DDT (which does linger around forever and bioaccumulate). kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnKofaamj7Cpd9E This video shows what it actually does...

The thing about using some sort of tranquilizer is they need to be geared to the body of the person your shooting at. Something that will knock out a 230lb marine immediately would probably kill a 110lb woman. That doesn't even take into account that it does take time for the tranq to move through the bloodstream, even if it were introduce intravenously. The idea you could shoot two darts with the same amount of compound at two different people and expect them to both immediately fall to the ground probably means you used enough to kill them immediately
@soarabove3375 жыл бұрын
Yeah but no joke: these are Marines we're talking about. I trust them. Implicitly. Sincerely, The Army
@gingervikingjesus23517 күн бұрын
@14:49 Think of bulletproof vests (depending on the material used) like that stuff oobleck.. Bulletproof vests are designed to stop a small, relatively wide object moving at a high rate of speed.. That needle is probably the width of a pencil lead & is doing anything BUT moving at a high rate of speed.. Again depending on the material used, that needle would have absolutely no issue moving through a bulletproof vest.. That being said, Kevlar is a very tough material, most likely the tip of that needle would be absolutely destroyed..

After binge-watching Cinsins for two days straight I'm finally irked by so many dings on a movie I really loved. I love that Connery is effectively doing an homage to a really dark ending to James Bond's career, locked up and forgotten about. AND completely nailing it in being even more bad-ass than when he was Bond if that's possible, but with more reflection and maturity, as well as some terrific lines. Mandatory -100 off for any BS movie with Connery in it! (Also: Indiana Jones 3)
@mullaoslo4 жыл бұрын
It's not even an homage.. Bay noticed something familiar about it as well and asked Connery about it.. He told him straight up, I'm doing bond.. This is official the last time Connery played the role even though the character had a different name
