at a Brazilian steak house they have to explain the server and not serve medallions. It is pretty simple, you flip it to go if you want an unlimited amount of delicious meat and wine, or no if you need time to catch up and eat the meat in your plate. so good.

Coming from an area that's been heavily gentrified, this kind of pissed me off. There used to be a Chinese place down the block that served subs and pizza at $8 an order. I come from Spain, the place that INVENTED tapas. Tapas are food meant for poor people, blue-collar workers, when you're out with friends and get hungry, etc. The closest thing to tapas in America is the "Dollar Menu" at McDonald's. I was shocked to see "tapas" in America that were expensive. The whole point of tapas is you get a small snack for a small price (like $1 or $2 each), and it comes on a little bitty plate that you could sit on top of your wine glass. It's idiotic to serve tapas on large plates, or to charge more than a couple of dollars each for them.

As a culinary major, stuff like this sorta sucks to see 'cause it's super misleading. "Trendy" upscales restaurants that serve small portion sizes do so because typically the menu is fixed/tasting menu, meaning you pay a set price for a number of dishes, usually 5 or more. They are purposely small because since you are having so many courses, you're not going to be able to comfortably enjoy 6 or 7 dishes if they are all full size. So instead of getting an entire steak, you just get a few slices. That way you get to enjoy the flavor and savor it for a little but still have room for the other courses. If you go to a non-upscale restaurant that only serves you only one course and it's that small, then hell yeah you're getting jipped and I'd be upset too. But for places like portrayed in this video...its all a part of the experience. Higher quality ingredients, a well trained and polite FOH/Waitstaff, atmosphere, etc.

Been there. The "gnome supper" actually happened to me at a stratospherically expensive NYC restaurant. For real. The salad was a fan of four arugula leaves, a streak of dressing, and a perfect center cut off some sort of exotic mushroom. It looked just like a painting of a dandelion. It was exquisite, tasty, probably weighed an ounce, and cost a day's pay. It looked just like this. I swear. (The waiters were ninjas though. You'd glance at your dinner partner, turn back and your wine was topped up. You'd look for where the wine ninja went and when you looked back your plate was gone. It was eerie.)

I dont know if they have this in america but in canada we have a restaurant called Maple leafs Queens Buffet and like the name says its a buffet, except with fancy foods so you get as much as you want, and its only about 20 bucks to get in.

I was at an opera at the Chicago Civic Opera house, and was dining there during intermission. I fully expected it to be like this and when ordering it all even sounded as if it would be like this. Ordered duck, it came and it was like half a full duck, a whole bottle of champagne and sides. It was one of the best tasting things I've ever eaten. XD

My friend once went to a restaurant like this when she was younger. She was with her mom, and she was only 16, so thank god they actually had sodas, but they were 5 bucks for about 10 oz. Then when they saw the menu, they saw a turkey and ravioli meal ( WHICH WAS TO SHARE, BY THE WAY. ) which sounds pretty big honestly. When they got it, you had a few pieces of turkey covered in tomato sauce, and two DECENT sized pieces of ravioli. It was THIRTY SIX FUCKING DOLLARS for that. After that, they just gave up and went to Burger King.

Rich people stay rich by *not* frequently spending money on shit like this. The fact that they do it so seldomly is why it gets so much attention when they do it. Restaurants that attempt to survive solely on selling this kind of garbage to rich people *always fail* because despite what pop-culture celebrities might make you think, the vast majority of rich people just aren't that stupid. The ones that do well, often do so by inviting a celebrity or famous rich people to diner for FREE, then using the publicity of that persons visit to lure in "normal" people, tourists, and pretentious hipsters. There have even been restaurants go out of business specifically because they never recoup the debt they rack up from basically _bribing_ celebrities to come eat for free.

I went to a trendy restaurant and ordered a salad as an appetizer with feta. When I got my salad it had literally 2 tiny pieces of feta crumble. When I called the waiter over to complain they said it would be $3 for extra feta. I condescendingly replied, "No this salad should have an adequate amount of feta before suggesting I pay for more." The waiter just rolled his eyes so I asked for the manager and he did the same so my friend and I just walked out and didn't pay.
