Holy balls this reminds me of visiting little Italy in NYC. My friend and I were just walking around checking the views. It was winter, no business in any restaurant that I could see. Then we were ushered by a man in a long fur coat into his Italian restaurant. By ushered I mean he was like “you’re hungry?” And we said “yeah we’re just looking around seeing what option there are” and he grabbed us by our shoulders, him in the middle, and took us into his empty restaurant, where a waiter immediately asked us what we wanted. I then watched him take off his long fur coat indoors to only reveal a vest made of the same fur underneath. Best food I’d had in a while.

I love this video! For the most part it’s actually accurate, as a Macedonian I can confirm that most Balkan countries love their food and everyone thinks they invented the food they cook. The bigger problem is actually most of the Balkan foods were almost all of them or in part brought to us by the Turkish ( Ottoman ) we just changed the recipe a little or gave it a slightly different name. 😂😂

This is actually a very accurate representation of trying to teach someone to pronounce words that involve sounds their ear is not trained to recognise. I had this experience with a polish person trying to teach me to pronounce some word. He'd say it to me, I'd repeat it exactly (so I thought), and he'd say, no, no! and pronounce it again. That went on for a time until I said it (exactly as before as far as I can tell), and he went, Yes! Now you got it!
@paxcoder6 ай бұрын
Your comment confuses me, given your Balkan last name. Have you never heard native English speakers fail to pronounce phonemes that appear in a different configuration than they're used to? You tell them one thing, and what you get back is completely different. And then you have a situation where you're saying something and they keep "repeating" back something wildly different. Or have you never heard English speakers read something as they would in their own language, despite most of the rest of the world pronouncing things phonetically? For example, in this very skit, they're pronouncing ajvar as "azhvar" instead of "ayvar".
