I loved how you included the part that if you don’t feel comfortable giving your child something, then don’t! We started BLW after taking courses, talking to pediatrician and taking CPR course, we STILL ended up with a scary choking incident. Every feeding therapist on Instagram talks about how capable babies are with mashing soft food with their gums and I expected that would be the case with my son. After giving him an appropriately cut piece of food, he sucked on it SO HARD that it broke and shot straight down his windpipe 😣 We’re on purées and mashes for now until I can observe him maneuver the food better in his mouth. You know your babies best and PLEASE trust your gut!!!

I'm so glad I'm re-watching this with a baby in my arm. It lets me pick up on things I didn't focus on before I became a mom. You are an awesome teacher mom!

It might be a good idea to try new high risk food during the week instead of the weekend so the pediatrician office is open!

This video was really helpful for me! My little guy is just over 6 months so I am navigating the whole solid food thing right now. I love how you laid put the whole week and especially the high risk foods on the weekend. I also started with a banana this morning :)

This was awesome, thank you! I'm a new mom and this video gave me a leaping off point to even know what questions to START asking. I was really overwhelmed with just "uhhh how do I do this?" which is hard to find out

Thank you for this! We are doing BLW with my 6.5mo but I needed energy and inspiration for our journey! (Also your top is SO cute!)

Even giving him the option to help develop his development of making choice is an idea too! He doesn’t really understand the true flavour behind what he’s picking but he can decide what he wants and can start that development. For example if your giving him a fruit hold up a banana in its normal form and a mango and then let him pick which one he wants then cut or mush it up. Just an idea, eventually leading into speech as you hold up banana and say banana and hold up mango and say mango, over time it will help him recognize what he’s having! Do you do any sign language with him, such as asking for more, please or all done? This is something I want to try

Thanks for the info, I'm starting BLW next month. I'm excited to start my little one on solids. I didn't know having a high chair with a step was the safest for feeding, great note. We have the Inglesina high chair that fastens on a table or breakfast bar, will look into other options. I also got the book, "Simple & Safe Baby-Led Weaning" on Amazon as additional info that I can reference easily. Thanks again!!

I did BLW but went a more relaxed way so I totally understand not making a video on it where people depend on your content. I did a video on healthy eating and habits which totally has some stuff you mentioned about making it a good experience

Awesome video. Very informative. Don’t forget babies cannot have foods made with honey until age one as well :)

Thank you this is so helpful! Do you have recommendations on what to put under the table that’s easy to clean?
@AshleyEmbers3 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried multiple things but my preference is to just clean the floor after.

The mess part gives me anxiety, I'm hoping I'll feel different with my own baby. I have some OCD issues that are very debilitating and I hope I can still be a great mom through it... :((

When do you suggest to start blw and what is blw. Where do you suggest that I research?
@katerinailievska56733 жыл бұрын
Can we put spices on the food? What spices do you usually use? How do you prepare meat? My baby is 6 months old, but I feel he still doesn't have good core control, so we do purees, but at least I want to put spices in them and let him use the spoon.

So I know that you are mostly always with Rooke, but do you have any tips for BLW with a baby sitter/ daycare? I plan to work maybe 2 days a week. Family will most likely be babysitting but I want to make it as easy as possible since it is free childcare lol. Would you just do regular purées on those days?

Hej Ashley :) Do you know if it's a good idea to give the same food in different "forms"? For example raw in the morning, as a puree for lunch and cooked in the evening.
@annarocha32543 жыл бұрын
Yes! Sometimes babies won't like a particular food in one 'form' but they will take to it in another. Maybe not all in one day but especially if your baby rejects a particular food it is helpful to introduce a different version a few days later. At least this is what I have read. I can't speak from experience. Haha

At what time of the day did you start with BLW? I mean: did you do it at first after a milk feed? Our doctor has cleared us to start but I don’t know when to do it lol

I don’t agree that babies should be eating meat. I feel like they are too young to have to digest meat and cheese from animals. They don’t have enough teeth for meat.
@katiedavis41432 жыл бұрын
They don't need teeth. Ever been bit by a baby's gums? They're tough enough for meat
