I think it is worth mentioning in the comments that these aren't new products. The BYD brand has has their batteries in Australia for over 10 years with my first experience with their home batteries around 2013. They have service staff across the country and have a very good legacy battery program too where customers are able to expand their battery system even years after the product was discontinued

BYD still makes hybrids, not just Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). I think there was a little bit of confusion as China uses the term ‘New Energy Vehicles’. Hybrids and BEVs are covered by this.

Makes sense.. We believe Hybrid fills the gaps where EV can't.

These are LFP batteries. So far far safer then Lithium Ion batteries. Regarding the discharge to not go and discharge them completely, again a non issue as any of the modern Inverters can be programmed to only discharge to a given percentage left in the batteries. I have a Hybrid system with 40KWh LFP batteries from a different manufacturer and I sleep well at night, not worrying about what would happen in the extreme case of thermal run away. If I would start from scratch today, then BYD home battery system would certainly be very high on my selection list.

@@yeanswers24KW Solar / Three 8.2KW Fronius Primo's / Two Selectronic Pro 7.5KW Hybrid Inverters / ten 4KWh ECO4840P SFP Batteries mounted in one of their Racks / 15KW Diesel Auto Start Backup Generator. All this supplies a large Federation Style house with a large central air condition, a 2nd split air condition in the rumpus room where the equipment is installed. / Pool / all electric equipment like: Washing maschine / Dryer / Stove / Hotplate / Water tank pump / Hot Water System / electric push mower / electric 54' ride on mower / EV with 77.4KWh battery...etc, etc, etc. I even have now an electric chainsaw. There are very few items left which are still ICE and will stay this way for the foreseeable future. Not everything can be replaced with electrical items. We are still hooked up to the Grid for the time being as the large upgraded system has only been installed for about 4 months, but most of the solar equipment has been already in use for 10 years and has simply just been up-scaled 5 fold. After winter, we will decide if we stay connected to the Grid or disconnect. Due to the extremely low export margin of 2.3KW imposed on us, we are still left with a connection bill of around $160,- a quarter. Winter will decide if we keep paying for the convenience of having that 3rd backup, sort of an "extra" insurance. So far we have travelled 5600km+ in the EV at a total cost of AUS $13.55 and that was only because we wanted to try out a fast charger..not that we needed it. No actual electricity cost at all and we don't try to be "frugal" in usage. the only concession we make once in a while is turning the Hot Water system OFF for one day if the weather has been really miserable, as the system holds the water hot for at least 24 hours. Airconditions are on 24/7.

@@alf699curious to hear what a system like that set you back and how you would change things if you were to go at it again? We’re looking at doing the exact same with a byd battery setup and other bits to go with it. Only difference is we still run on gas water/cooking.

WHAT IS THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN HVS OR A LVS?
@bradlainson80516 ай бұрын
HVS (and HVM) is high voltage architecture for HV inverters such as Fronius Gen 24 models. LVS is Low (48v) typically used for Off Grid use.

@yeanswers7 ай бұрын
They can range anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 but if you use solar efficiently and own an EV the payback on them can be very quick.

If rhey go belly up or bamkrupt, we could all be stuck with a bunch of non functioning EVs ready for the salvage yards.
